I haven't confirmed this yet, but I've tried calling his line multiple times, and it hasn't been going through.

If I don't get any response by Friday, I'll visit his office on Saturday to check in.

Hopefully, this isn't true.

This is definitely not the time to lose any member of this forum, let alone a brilliant and promising young man like Gazzuzz.

Fashion / Chidimma Adetshina Withdraws From Miss South Africa Pageant by Odewaleadesoye(m): 5:06pm On Aug 08
Chidimma Adetshina, a Miss South Africa contestant, has withdrawn from the competition.

She said she withdrew for the safety and wellbeing of herself and family.

DAILY POST recalls that South Africa’s national beauty pageant has been enmeshed in controversy after the government accused Chidimma’s mother of fraud and identity theft.

Consequently, Chidimma, 23, has been the subject of hostile, xenophobic attacks on social media after she was announced as a finalist in the competition in July.

Many had questioned her credentials, including cabinet ministers.

The controversy the issue generated led to an investigation into her citizenship by the Home Affairs Ministry, after a request from the pageant’s organisers.

The investigation uncovered “prima facie indications” that Chidimma’s mother may have committed fraud and stolen the identity of a South African woman after the Miss SA hopeful was born, the ministry said on Wednesday.

In a post on her Instagram account, Chidimma said although withdrawing from the pageant is a difficult decision, the safety of her family comes first.

The post reads,
“I would like to start off by thanking everyone who has stood beside me right from the start of my Miss South Africa journey. I’m really grateful for all the love and support I have been shown.

“Being part of the Miss South Africa 2024 competition has been an amazing journey however, after much careful consideration, I have made the difficult decision to withdraw myself from the competition for the safety and wellbeing of my family and I.

“With the support of the Miss South Africa Organisation, I leave with a heart full of gratitude for this amazing experience.

“I would like to take this opportunity to wish my fellow finalists all of the best for the remainder of the competition. Whoever wears the crown represents us all.”

Celebrities / ‘Why I Started Smoking’ – Rema by Odewaleadesoye(m): 2:53pm On Aug 08
Afrobeats star Divine Ikubor, popularly known as Rema, has opened up about how the death of his dad affected his childhood.

The ‘Calm Down’ crooner said the death of his father left him the responsibility of catering for his family at a young age and in the process, he was “forced to sell” his childhood.

In a candid chat with GRM, Rema, 24, said he wants to “feel young again.”

He said he recently started smoking cigarettes in a bid to feel “free and break some rules again.”

Rema lamented that despite being an adult before deciding to smoke, people still criticise his decision because he’s a celebrity.

He said,
“I really wanted to feel like a child again… I feel like I grew up too fast. Life switched up on me crazy when I lost my dad and my brother. The weight was just on my shoulder and forced me to sell my childhood to provide for my family.

“God willing, everything happened well, it happened fast. And with fast fame, comes fast maturity. It’s just like never ending level of seriousness. So much adults. So much meetings. I didn’t even rolled with my age mates.

“So this project [‘HeIs’], I just want to be a child. And it’s coming out. It’s not me forcing it out. It just sparked in my spirit. I just want to feel young again. I just to be a rebel. You know, kids make mistakes and it’s acceptable. But when you’re a teenager and you make the same mistake your peers would make, everyone will come for you just because you’re in the spotlight.

“I know people who smoked a cigarette when they were 13 and I’m 24 smoking a cigarette because I just want to feel free and break some rules. All my life just feel so planned and scheduled. I just got tired.”

Politics / Hold All Government Officials Accountable, Not Just Tinubu - Odewaleadesoye by Odewaleadesoye(m): 8:00pm On Aug 05
The #EndBadGovernance protests in Nigeria are making waves, but there's a crucial aspect missing from the conversation.

While many are focusing their anger on President Tinubu and the federal government, we're overlooking a major part of the problem: our state governors, senators, and other officials.

From January to July 2024, the federal government has allocated significant funds to the states.
Here’s a brief look at some allocations:
- Delta State: N102.79 billion in June alone.
- Akwa Ibom State: N70.01 billion in June.
- Rivers State: N69.73 billion in June.
- Ekiti State: N16.95 billion in June.
- Lagos State: N253.92 billion from January to July.
- Kano State: N152.34 billion from January to July.
- Kaduna State: N120.44 billion from January to July.
- Plateau State: N88.90 billion from January to July.
- FCT (Abuja): N56.34 billion from January to July.
- Oyo State: N123.76 billion from January to July.
- Abia State: N95.05 billion from January to July.
- Imo State: N78.12 billion from January to July.

These figures show that states are getting hefty amounts, yet many are failing to deliver tangible results. Instead of holding our governors accountable, we’re fixated on President Tinubu.

Governors are supposed to use these funds to improve infrastructure, healthcare, and education. However, many states are still struggling with poor roads, inadequate healthcare, and failing schools. Some governors even have the audacity to join protests while their own states suffer from mismanagement.

Our senators and House members receive massive amounts for constituency projects, yet many of these projects are either poorly executed or not completed at all. Despite this, there’s little scrutiny or accountability for how these funds are used.

Corruption isn’t limited to politicians. In the civil service, nepotism and bribery often block qualified Nigerians from getting jobs or services. Money meant for projects often gets embezzled, leaving citizens with nothing.

As we protest against the federal government, let’s not forget to hold state governors, senators, and civil servants accountable. The problems we face are systemic and involve every level of government. If we truly want change, we need to demand transparency and accountability from all our leaders, not just the president.

Let’s push for a comprehensive approach to governance reform and not let our anger be misdirected. It's time to tackle the root of the problem at every level of government.

Odewale Adesoye (A.K.A. Green Man) is saying God bless Federal Republic of Nigeria.

TV/Movies / BBNaija Season 9: Mbadiwe Twins Emerge First Head Of House by Odewaleadesoye(m): 8:53pm On Jul 29
Big Brother Naija Season 9 pair, Ocee and Ozumba Mbadiwe have emerged the first Head of House after a competitive game on Monday.

As opposed to the usual way of playing the Head of House games, this time, the housemates had to play a ballot game, in which they voted for the pair they want to win the HOH challenge.

After all the pairs voted, there was a tie between Mbadiwes and the Fairme Davido and Michky pair, but the custodians, the aunty and niece pair, chose the Mbadiwe Twins as the winners of the game.

However, the twins will not have immunity for the Head of House this season. That means they don’t have the privilege of being saved from eviction.

The 9th season of BBNaija reality show kicked off on Sunday night with an exciting new dynamic which saw the contestants entering the house in pairs.

Politics / 5 Reasons To Think Twice Before Joining The Planned Protest - Odewale Adesoye by Odewaleadesoye(m): 10:12am On Jul 25
As we approach the dates for the planned nationwide protests, I urge everyone to pause and consider the potential consequences of our actions.
Protests are indeed a constitutional right, but we must be mindful of the potential risks and unintended outcomes.

Here are some crucial points to ponder:

1. During the 2020 #EndSARS protests, many lives were tragically lost, and countless properties were damaged. It is possible that a similar outcome could occur if the current protests escalate. The chaotic scenes from that period serve as a stark reminder of the possible repercussions.

2. The majority of those who lost their lives or had their properties destroyed during the #EndSARS protests were ordinary citizens. The damages predominantly affected businesses and properties owned by the average Nigerian, not the government officials who were the target of the protests. We must consider whether it is worth risking further harm to our communities and businesses.

3. There is a real risk that the protests could be hijacked by groups with ulterior motives, leading to violence and destruction. When protests are taken over by extremists or opportunists, the consequences often fall heavily on the shoulders of the general public. We have seen examples globally where protests have spiraled out of control, leading to extensive loss of life and property damage, such as the violent protests in Kenya and the recent unrest in Bangladesh and Pakistan.

4. It is likely that many government officials may not even be in Nigeria during the protests. They may travel abroad to avoid any potential physical confrontations, leaving the average citizen vulnerable. The distance of these officials means that the immediate impact of any violence or destruction will be borne primarily by us, the ordinary Nigerians.

5. The government has acknowledged the challenges and is implementing policies to address them. President Bola Tinubu has requested more time for these programs to take effect. Premature protests might disrupt these efforts and delay potential solutions.

Suggestions:
1. Continue using social media platforms to raise awareness about the issues in a non-violent manner. Engaging in online campaigns can reach a wide audience and put pressure on the government without risking physical harm. For instance, the NERDC (National Education Research Development Council) was called out on social media concerning their Jibowu office in Lagos. The building looked old, and there was a complaint about why it looked that way. Due to the tweet, they repainted it.

2. If you choose to participate, ensure that the demonstration remains peaceful and non-violent.

Education / Tragic Accident At UNILORIN Main Gate Claims Multiple Lives (Graphics Photos) by Odewaleadesoye(m): 4:37pm On Jul 18
In a heart-wrenching incident that occurred just minutes ago, an accident at the University of Ilorin's (UNILORIN) main gate has resulted in the tragic loss of several lives. According to initial reports, many passengers of a campus shuttle, known as "Korope," have been confirmed dead, with the driver sustaining minor injuries.

The accident happened as the students were returning home after their exams. Eyewitnesses report that the bus was overcrowded, carrying 10 people despite its capacity being limited to 7 passengers. The devastating crash underscores the urgent need for improved safety measures in campus transportation.

A 31-second video obtained provides a graphic and disturbing glimpse into the aftermath of the accident.

Efforts to reach the university's Counseling and Advisory Unit (CAU) for more information have been unsuccessful as of press time. The community is in mourning, with many expressing their grief and shock over the tragic loss of young lives.

This isn't the first time such an incident has occurred at the UNILORIN main gate, raising concerns about recurring safety issues. The entire university community and beyond are calling for immediate action to prevent further tragedies.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of the victims. May God protect us all from such heartbreaking events.

This is indeed a very dark Thursday for UNILORIN.
