This year's World Cup is special for many reasons.
For the first time ever, 48 countries will participate in the tournament, making it the biggest World Cup in history. The competition will be hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico, with matches played across several cities in the three countries.
A total of 104 matches will be played before a new world champion is crowned.
Some teams have arrived as favourites.
Spain, France, Brazil, Argentina, England, Germany, Portugal.
And a few dark horses that could surprise the world.
The beautiful thing about football is that nobody truly knows what will happen until the ball starts rolling.
Will Argentina defend their crown?
Can Brazil finally win another World Cup?
Will France dominate once again?
Can Spain continue their rise?
Or will we witness a shocking underdog story that football fans will talk about for decades? This thread is for all of that.

Celebrities › BBNaija Reunion: Joanna Recounts Alleged ‘One-Night Stand’ With Jason by Odewaleadesoye(op): 3:09pm On Jun 10 |
"I woke up to see him in my bed. He was hard as rock. I noticed it..."
Former Big Brother Naija Season 10 housemate Joanna has debunked her colleague Jason Jae’s claim of having a “one-night stand” with her in Biggie’s house.
DAILY POST recalls that Joanna and Jason had an intimate moment the night before her eviction, but the camera shifted, leaving viewers obvious of what transpired between them.
Jason Jae claimed in a post-show interview that the incident was a “one-night stand.”
However, speaking in the second episode of the reunion aired on Tuesday night, Joanna debunked the claims, saying nothing intimate happened between them.
She said she noticed Jason was “hard as a rock” and tried to cover him up but he went out and insinuated that they had a one-night stand.
“The very first interview Jason Jae had, he claimed that the incident was a ‘one-night thing’. I was shocked like, ‘Are you a baby?’
“I was sleeping when he came to my bed. I was very emotional because it was the night Thelma got evicted. I woke up to see him in my bed. He was hard as rock. I noticed it, and I tried to cover him up. Only for him to go out and say we had a one-night stand,” Joanna lamented.
Jason later apologised to Joanna for insinuating that he had a one-night stand with her, but maintained that he was never interested in her romantically, contrary to her claim that he wanted her as a rebound from Dede’s rejection, but she refused. DAILY POST

Politics › Peter Obi Copy-And-Paste Politician, Can’t Compete With Tinubu – Bayo Onanuga by Odewaleadesoye(op): 12:21pm On Jun 10 |
The Presidency has lashed out at the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections, Peter Obi.
In a post on his verified X handle on Wednesday, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, described Obi as a copy-and-paste politician who cannot compete with Tinubu.
Onanuga claimed that Obi has nothing to showcase as Anambra governor for eight years.
He said, in contrast with Tinubu as Lagos State governor, he left a rail and road masterplan as governor, which is still being executed to this day.
“Peter Obi has never shown original, authentic thinking. He is a copy-and-paste politician. Willie Obiano, his successor, said Obi failed spectacularly in providing security in the state.
“Nigeria deserves a leader who can see beyond the ken of the ordinary people, a leader who is a proven deep thinker and doer.
“Peter Obi is no match for President Bola Tinubu. They are not on the same level,” he said.

Celebrities › ‘The Igbos Have Given A Lot To Lagos Economy’ – Rapper Illbliss (Video) by Odewaleadesoye(op): 1:34pm On Jun 05 |
...We have no business not being accommodating of each other..."
Rapper Illbliss has emphasised on the need for Nigerians to be more receptive of non-indigenes in their states and shun inflammatory remarks against non-indigenous residents.
Speaking in a recent episode of the Outside The Box podcast, the ‘Aiye Po Gan’ crooner used the Igbos in Lagos as a case study of non-indigenous residents’ contributions to development.
Illbliss noted that the Igbos have contributed significantly to the Lagos economy despite not being indigenes of the state.
He said it is regrettable that Nigerians are still struggling with tribalism and religious bigotry after decades of coexisting as a country.
“The Igbos have given a lot to the Lagos economy in terms of trade and commerce. I wonder how this town will be if you told every Igbo man to leave. So, I’m always shocked whenever I hear comments like, ‘If you’re not from Lagos State, go back to your state.’
“We have no business being where we are as a country. We have no business not being accommodating of each other. But sadly, we are still plagued by tribalism, ethnic and religious divides,” Illbliss remarked.
The rapper said Nigeria’s situation makes him wonder sometimes whether it should have been a single country in the first place. DAILY POST

Muhammad Ali’s legacy extends far beyond his world titles and Olympic gold...
Muhammad Ali’s legacy extends far beyond his world titles and Olympic gold, his widow has said, as his hometown prepares to mark 10 years since the boxing icon’s death with a global “Day of Compassion”.
Ali, who died on June 3, 2016, after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease, is being honored this week at the Muhammad Ali Center in Louisville, which is encouraging people worldwide to mark Wednesday’s anniversary with acts of service and care.
“He transcended boxing into every space you can imagine,” Lonnie Ali said in an interview at the centre. “Muhammad lived by this mantra: Service to others is the rent we pay for our room here on Earth.
“He showed up every day with kindness and empathy in his heart for people who are in need.”
Known in his hometown as the “Louisville Lip”, Ali rose from a modest background to become a three-time heavyweight champion and 1960 Olympic gold medallist.
As his fame grew in the 1960s, he became an outspoken voice on civil rights and the Vietnam War, cementing his status as one of the most influential athletes of all time.
A decade later, Ali’s face now appears on a US postage stamp – another sign, she said, that his message of courage, faith, and service still resonates “from kings and princes to ordinary fans who never met him, but felt they knew his heart”. Celebrities › Yinka Alaseyori Apologises Over Remarks On Abducted Oyo School Children (Video) by Odewaleadesoye(op): 11:58am On Jun 04 |
Popular Nigerian gospel musician, Yinka Alaseyori, has publicly apologized to Nigerians over remarks on the abducted school children in Oyo state.
DAILY POST reports that bandits invaded Community High School, Ahoro-Esinele in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State on May 15 2026 and abducted 7 teachers and several students.
A few hours after the abduction, the gunmen beheaded one of the teachers in a scary viral video online.
The attack has raised concerns over insecurity in schools and educational institutions nationwide,
Following the government’s inability to secure the release of the kidnapped victims, Labour Union, parents, and many Nigerians have continued to protest across Nigeria.
Reacting to the development in a video on Monday, Yinka Alaseyori who noted that the government is working on the children’s release, urged Nigerians to support president Bola Tinubu and the security agencies with prayers.
Following her remarks, many users including celebrities took to social media to call the singer out and criticize her for not being realistic, insisting that insecurity requires decisive government action rather than religious appeals.
Reacting to backlash, the singer in a new video on Wednesday, tendered a public apology to Nigerians
“Good day everyone, I did a video of about 1 and half hour two days ago, praying for the kidnapped children, grieving families, government parastatal, the military, Nigeria land, and everybody in pain. But when I woke up yesterday I discovered that some well meaning Nigerians are feeling offended because I made them feel unseen or their voices unheard.
“You know me too well that I will never make anybody feel like that. I discovered that the trending video was cut out of the video I made. Mothers, please don’t be angry with me. I begged you in the name of Jesus Christ, you will never bury your children. I beg you in God’s name, please forgive me if I ever speak as if I’m insensitive”, she said.
