Obaseki Takes Ward-To-Ward Campaign To Egor, Says Vote For APC Will Sustain Ongoing Human, Infrastructural Devt In continuation of his ward-to-ward campaign, Edo State Governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki, was in Egor Local Government Area of the state on Wednesday, where he canvassed for votes for candidates of All Progressives Congress (APC) in the forthcoming general elections. Obaseki explained that a vote for President Muhammadu Buhari is a vote for him and would translate to better life for Edo people and residents. "This election is about APC and President Muhammadu Buhari, as a victory for the President is a victory for Obaseki and it will enable us continue our developmental projects in the state to make life better for Edo people," he told the voters. At Ward 3, the governor commended the party faithful for their loyalty and urged them to do more by winning the hearts of more people using the achievements of the APC-led government in the state. "This ward is a performing ward. You voted en-mass for APC during the last election and we want you to double your performance in this year's election by winning more hearts that would vote for the APC" the governor said, and assured that his administration will in five weeks' time, develop the design and award contract for the reconstruction of Power Line Road in Uwelu area of the state. He introduced the party’s candidates for Egor/Ikpoba-Okha House of Representatives seat, Hon. Ehiozuwa Johnson Agbonayinma; Edo South Senatorial seat, Hon Patrick Obahiagbon; and Hon. Crosby Eribo, who is seeking a seat in the Edo State House of Assembly. He promised to reward the best performing ward in Edo South Senatorial District and emphasised that massive support by the electorates in all the units will enable his administration sustain the ongoing human and infrastructural development in the state. The three APC candidates; Hon. Agbonayinma, Eribo and Obahiagbon promised to join hands with the governor to attract more projects to the state and pass bills to support the governor’s developmental strides, when elected. …mourns death of mother of AAU Governing Council chair, Omokhodion The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has commiserated with the Chairman, Edo State Chapter of All Progressives Congress (APC), Anselm Ojezua, over the death of his mother, late Mrs. Beatrice Ojezua, whose passing at age 87, was announced on Tuesday, January 8, 2019. The governor, who led other members of his cabinet on a condolence visit to Ojezua’s residence in Benin City, said late Mrs. Beatrice Lami Ojezua lived a good life, which can be attested to by those who knew her. The governor also paid a condolence visit to the Chairman, Governing Council of Ambrose Alli University, Chief Lawson Omokhodion, over the death of his mother, late Mrs. Christiana Omokhodion. Speaking at the residence of the Ojezua family, the governor said, “Mama was a mother to all, she lived a good life and accomplished a lot in her lifetime. She emphasized education, among other things. We all are her children; we thank God for her life.” Obaseki said Late Mrs. Beatrice Ojezua had a fair share of success and accomplishments in life, leaving good legacies for her children to emulate. “We are here to assure you of our administration's support as we stand by you in these trying times,” he said. The eldest son of the family, Alexander Ojezua, thanked the governor and his entourage for the visit, noting that the family appreciates the gesture. He described his late mother as a mother to everybody, adding, “We want to call this a celebration of life as mama accomplished a lot in life and set the stage for the success of her biological children and all those close to her, who she saw as her children.” At the Omokhodion residence, Obaseki described late Christiana Omokhodion, who died at age 89, as a woman who embodied truth, love, Christian piety, and said that she was committed to community service. He urged the Omokhodions to take solace in the fact that their late mother witnessed the wedding of one of her granddaughters before her passing. Chief Lawson Omokhodion expressed appreciation to the governor for making time to grieve with the family. Edo Production Centre Attracts 200 MSMEs, As Govt Guarantees Steady Electricity From CCETC/Ossiomo Power Plant With the guarantee of unparalleled business support opportunities and shared conducive working space, not less than 200 Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) have expressed interest to site their businesses at the Edo Production Centre, a multipurpose production cluster promoted by Governor Godwin Obaseki for small businesses in the state. Speaking during a stakeholders’ meeting with MSME operators in the state, Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Hon. Edorodion Oye Erimona, said the centre will be a one-stop-shop for MSMEs to enjoy economies of scale and low cost of production. The centre, located along Sapele Road, in Benin City will host different MSMEs, including furniture makers, cobblers, welders, bakers, polythene makers and a number of other interested small business owners. Erimona noted that adequate security arrangement will be provided as well as sound-proof to make the centre environment friendly. “This centre will accommodate MSMEs while the Benin Industrial Park will host big industries. The electricity for the center will be drawn from the Ossiomo Power Purchase Arrangement. Pollution in the environment will be minimal as the businesses will be MSMEs,” he added. Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the governor on Skills Development and Job Creation, Mrs. Ukinebo Dare, said the centre will commence full operation before the end of January. Mrs. Dare said that a call was put out to meet with stakeholders and over 200 operators of MSMEs are expected at the facility, noting that major renovation work has been done, which necessitated the meeting with stakeholder to keep them abreast of the progress on the project so that they can key into it. According to her, “A month ago, the governor came to inspect this facility, which will be used as a multi-purpose production centre. We have commenced renovation of the facility. We have done the electrical work and we are working to make this place habitable by the end of January. Obaseki Receives New 4 Brigade Commander, Promises To Bolster Security With New Architecture Edo State Governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki, has said that the security of life and property is receiving priority attention by his administration to ensure that residents go about their activities safely, more so, as the nation prepares for the general elections scheduled to hold this year. Obaseki said this when he received the new 4 Brigade Commander, Brig. Gen Greg Omoregbe, accompanied by his predecessor, Brig. Gen. Ibrahim Garuba, on a courtesy visit at Government House in Benin City, on Saturday. According to the governor, the strategic location of the state requires that the security structure is strengthened at all times. "This year we will focus extensively on security as it is an election year and given the position of the state; it is important that the security structure is strengthened further, he said. Obaseki noted that “as a state we are doing everything possible to ensure that we have a security arrangement which recognises the role of citizens of the state in security matters and integrate them into our security framework.” He commended the immediate past Commander of the Brigade for his role in the birthing of the state’s new security architecture and trust fund as well as his dedication to duty. "At every point in time Brig. Gen. Ibrahim Garuba was always there to help us plan our response to security challenges and as a state we can't thank him enough. I recall the support he gave to us when we were trying to ensure law and order in major streets in Benin metropolis. "He assisted the state in collaboration with other security outfits to curtail the crises between farmers and herders and militancy during our early days in office," Obaseki said. The governor urged the new 4 Brigade Commander to deploy his operational skills to build on the achievements of his predecessor, and pledged his administration’s support to enable him achieve his goals. Earlier, Garuba thanked the governor for his support to the Brigade under his watch. He explained that the robust synergy between the state government and the Brigade Command spurred the Brigade to contribute its quota to the security of the state which has been bolstered by the new security architecture and trust fund. The new Brigade Commander assured the governor of the command’s readiness to consolidate on the gains made by his predecessor and partner with the state as well as other security agencies to ensure the state is safe for residents. Reconstruction Of 140 Roads: Obaseki Awards Reconstruction Of 1st, 2nd Agho, As Work Set To Begin On Erumwunse Street Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki has said that reconstruction of 1st and 2nd Agho streets and Erumwunse Street in Ekehuan axis of Benin City, will commence before the end of January as contracts for their repairs have been awarded. The governor disclosed this during a visit to Ward 3, in Oredo Local Government Area, where he campaigned for candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) contesting for seats in the Senate, House of Representatives and State House of Assembly. He said, "We have awarded the reconstruction of roads in this area. Contractors will soon start work on Erumwunse Street. Also, 1st and 2nd Agho streets have been awarded and the contractor is set to start work." Recall that the state government classified reconstruction work on roads across the state into 9-axis, with the scope of work to be carried out to include, "site clearance/earthworks, scarification of failed sections, filling with hardcore (designated sections), and filling of sub-base with lateritic materials. Other aspects include laying of stone base as base course, provision of rigid concrete pavement and asphaltic wearing course." The reconstruction work in Ekehuan/Siluko/Ugbowo I axis covers a 2.085km-road network, which includes Eheneden Street, Off Ekehuan Road; Agho Street Off Ekehuan Road, 2nd Agho Street, off Ekehuan Road, Erumwunse Street off Ekehuan Road, Aibalegbe Street, Isiohor Benin-Lagos Expressway and Jemide Drive, off Goodwill, off Ekehuan Road." In Edo Central, reconstruction of road is being carried out on 8.8452km of roads, which include Esan Central Secretariat-Ivue Road; Ubiaja Angle 90 – Ahia Roundabout; Uwalor Road, Uromi, Palace Road Ewohimi, among others. In Edo North Senatorial District, "reconstruction work is ongoing on 20.066km road network, which includes complete overlay, sectional overlay and spot improvement/sectional overlay and the reconstruction of Iddo-Okpella Road, Jattu-Iyuku Road, Mission Road, Agenebode, Ozalla-Sabongida Road, Secretariat Road, Igarra, among others."
