The Twelfth prosecution witness in the ongoing corruption trial of a former minister of special duties and inter-governmental affairs, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, Hamma'Adama Bello, an operative of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, told the Court on Tuesday February 9, that a sum of N150 million from the funds allocated for public sensitization by the ministry, was traced to Abdulrahman Yusuf and KT Turaki & Co., the law firm of the former minister.

Led in evidence by prosecuting counsel, M.S Abubakar, Bello told the court that the second defendant received payment through Samtee Essentials and Pasco Investment, adding that "the second defendant showed that he received money from Minister of Labour while the first defendant was supervising minister in the sum of N150 million and transferred to Abdulrahman Yusuf and KT Turaki & Co."

The witness told the court that the sum of N359, 104,000 was approved for sensitization and enlightenment of Muslim youths against hate speech and religious intolerance.

On January 12, 2015, Turaki wrote a letter to the Minister of Finance for the release of the said money. Four days later, precisely on January 19, 2015, the money was paid to the Special Duties Ministry.

Once the money hit the account of the ministry, it was disbursed through officials, with some of the funds being traced back to the first defendant and his wife.

Bello told the court that the Director Finance and Account revealed that the funds were “controlled by the first defendant".

CrimeMan From Nigeria, 2 Ugandan Women Arrested In India For Drug Trafficking by Odogwuworld(op): 1:31pm On Feb 07, 2021
A Nigerian man, identified as Kingsley, and two women from Uganda have been arrested with nine kilograms of narcotics in India. The country's Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) busted the smuggling network, according to a report by Outlook.

The women, Jascent Nakalungi and Sharifah Namaganda said to be cousins, were intercepted by the Delhi unit of the central probe agency on January 28 after they landed at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in India.

According to the NCB, the two women had a medical visa for the treatment of Namaganda.

The duo was apprehended based on the agency's inputs following a drugs case detected in December wherein over five kg of heroin was seized and two Indians were arrested.

NCB deputy director (operations) K P S Malhotra said, "A total of 8kg of heroin and one kg of cocaine has been seized from the women. The drugs were hidden in their luggage bags that were handed to them in Uganda."

Kingsley was also arrested after the women's leads were followed, Malhotra said.

"The case reflects the standard route employed for trafficking of cocaine, which is manufactured illegally in South American countries.

'The seizure of heroin from this network points towards the reverse route of heroin trafficking. The intensive measures by border guarding forces, both at the northwest frontier and the high seas, have compelled drug traffickers to divert their loads towards Africa's horn, which is Mozambique.

"Heroin concealed in various shipments then reaches other parts of Africa, where the organised syndicates arrange the carriers.

"Subsequently, human couriers transport the drugs to India by adopting various ways like hiding the narcotics in the body cavity and ....... CONTINUE READING BELOW.....

We received reports that a 19-year-old student in collaboration with his gang members subjected the Principal to repeated punching in the premises of the school.

Reacting to the incident, the Osun State Commissioner for Education, Folorunso Oladoyin said it was totally condemnable, sickening, disturbing and disheartening that a student of a public secondary school could be involved in such a morally absurd behavioural conduct.

While describing students of public schools in Osun as disciplined, cultured and well behaved, the Commissioner maintained that the 19-year-old culprit and his gangsters will not go unpunished no matter what it took.

The Commissioner who expressed gladness that decency and discipline were on a daily basis gaining momentum in all public schools explained that the administration of Mr. Adegboyega Oyetola will not compromise standards.

Oladoyin warned that such incidents will not in any form or manner be tolerated henceforth in all Osun public or private schools.

He reiterated the resolve of the state government to make scapegoats of any student caught in any act of indiscipline by being made to face the full wrath of the law.

Education"Atimes, Students From Private Universities Are Dullards" - Mr. Maigoro by Odogwuworld(op): 6:57pm On Feb 06, 2021
Universities do not produce high quality graduates despite the exorbitant fees they receive in tuition from students, the chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) in Plateau State, Dr. Lazarus Maigoro, said on Thursday in Jos.

Mr. Maigoro, speaking to NAN on the newly approved private universities decried low academic standards in most of the existing private universities in the country and urged the new ones to live up to expectations. He said they must ensure quality and good academic standards in their operations.

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) on Wednesday granted approval to 20 new private universities in the country.

The chairman also bemoaned the alarming rate of poor quality graduates he alleged the private universities are churning out annually.

“It is actually good to have private universities that have standard and quality, unfortunately, most of the existing ones are nothing to write home about,” he said scathingly. “Most at times, they push out people with empty brains as graduates; these graduates hardly contribute meaningfully to the growth and development of the society. Adding that sometimes, they produce dullards who can't help the country.

Mr. Maigoro called on the federal government and relevant agencies to intensify monitoring mechanisms to set high standards.

He further advised the new institutions to charge moderate school fees in order to accommodate children of both the rich and the ...... CONTINUE READING BELOW.....

Nigerian Pastor Sues General Overseer For Allegedly Sleeping With His Wife On The Same Bed With His Daughter

A former pastor with the Omega Fire Ministries International, Mike Davids, has filed a suit against the General Overseer of the church, Apostle Johnson Suleman, and the church for N2billion, for allegedly meddling in his marriage, which he described as unlawful.

Davids had last week accused Apostle Suleman of hypnotising and committing adultery with his wife, Pastor Faith Edeko, who now supervises the Utako, Abuja branch of the church.

Alleging threat to life, Davids had petitioned the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, who had in turn ordered an investigation into the matter.

On Thursday, however, Davids filed an action in Pet/041/2021 before the court, accusing Apostle Suleman of destroying his home and preventing him from seeing his three children.

In the petition for a decree of restitution of conjugal rights, the petitioner specified that he married his wife pursuant to Section 24 of the Marriage Act at St. Andrew’s Cathedral, Ekpoma, on December 6, 2008, by virtue of which only a High Court can annul.

Among other reliefs, Davids is seeking an order of perpetual injunction restricting Apostle Suleman, the church and their agents from having access or relating with his wife and three children.

He is also seeking “an award of punitive and exemplary damages in the sum of N2billion against the defendant for unlawful interference with the claimant’s contract of marriage and the cost of N2 million being the cost of prosecuting this action before this honourable court.”......CONTINUE READING BELOW.....
