Politics / Re: Five Policemen Returning From Edo Election Die In Road Crash, Others Injured by ogaemma: 8:33am
NIGERIA is a very dangerous country.
It is very easy to die faster in Nigeria than the man who is drowning in the Mediterranean sea.
If not, why will any right thinking human being deployed police officers from far away Kano to Edo State because of an Election.
Elections are also conducted in other countries of the world. The IG should go and learn from them how they do their deployment of their Officer's.
Rest in Peace to the Officer's.

I will believe the speculation that the bandit's were invited to Nigeria by the Northern politicians.
With the kind of blood on the hands of these politicians, I doubt if they will ever find peace now and forever.

Just imagine the caliber of humans we have entrusted with the security of our country.
Killing each other in a night club.
This is the same way they live their lives in the barracks and in the battle front.
Instead of to fight and kill our enemies, they will fight and kill themselves.
The Soldier was lucky the angry mob did not beat him to death.
Rest in Peace to the Officer.
Politics / Re: Akpata Won Edo Election But Rigged Out By APC: Labour Party by ogaemma: 10:35am On Sep 24
Every one in Edo State knows that the governorship ticket is zoned to Edo central.
But Labour Party still went ahead and gave their governorship ticket to someone from Edo south. That was where their failure started.
Poor strategy.
What an earth shaking error. Obaseki is from Edo south and you want another man from Edo south to take over from him, thereby robbing, the good people of Esan in Edo central the opportunity of producing the state governor.

Labour Party lack's, good strategist.

Oga oluwole is not our problem.
Our immediate past president do not have a certificate.
Our present president face a lot of Certificate and university attendance scandals.
Many of our politicians always face Certificate scandals at every election.
Oluwole helped so many Nigerians with documents to travel abroad that gave them a better life.
I am not in support of forgery and crime, but let us face the problem that made fuel pump price 1,500 while in Libya Petro is 52 naira.

Politics / Re: Edo : We Were Fairly Defeated, Reno Omokri Cautions PDP. by ogaemma: 8:31am On Sep 23
You spoke well Mr. Reno.
The bottom line lesson is that we should not burn down bridges that we use to cross.
We may need them when crossing back.

This is the first election Obaseki is running by himself.
All the person's and bridges that took him this far, have all been burnt down.
Obaseki is a career person.
He knows how to manage finance.
But do not know how to manage humans.
Many of the people he fought with were avoidable if only Obaseki knew how to manage human resources.
Outside our careers, we should know how to deal with and manage our fellow humans.

Politics / Re: Edo Governor Elect, Okpebholo Goes To Pay Homage To The Oba Of Benin by ogaemma: 7:29am On Sep 23
emkz:
Well.

This is a smart move. Obaseki, in his power drunk stupor, even took on the Oba of Benin over the place to keep the looted artefacts that were to be returned.

Was that fight necessary?

When Oba of Benin called Oshiomole, Obaseki, Ize-Iyamu and Shaibu to make peace in 2020, only Obaseki attempted to gloat that he was the chief security officer of Edo State, and the Oba asked him to keep quiet as he was uninterested in hearing Obaseki's rantings.

Obaseki fought too many persons and even the palace became a factor in the politics.

Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama was seen in a video when he decamped saying he'd deliver Oredo to APC. Ogbeide-Ihama had relinquished his PDP ticket to Obaseki in 2020 only for Obaseki to fight him for control.
So let us ask Obaseki the following question:

How did Obaseki manage to lose the following persons:

(1) Adams Oshiomole?
(2) Nyesom Wike?
(3) Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama?
(4) Edo legacy PDP?
(5) Philip Shaibu?
(6) Benin Traditional Council?
(7) Dan Orbih?
(8 ) Anslem Ojezua?
(9) Edo elites?

What did Obaseki think he could accomplish with:

(1) Omobayo Marvelous Godwins?
(2) People who sing his praises a,d were too afraid to tell him the truth?

If there is any lesson to be learnt, it is to say if you have a huge financial war chest, but lack people skills, you won't be able to install a successor. Tinubu has been a successful politician because he possesses people skills.

Obaseki caused a rift between Oshiomole and Oshiomole's team when Oshiomole forced Obaseki on them. Obaseki humiliated Oshiomole when Oshiomole kicked him out of APC. PDP gave Obaseki succour only for Obaseki to mess up every one who worked for his second term. Obaseki ended up causing rancour in PDP, divided PDP and PDP went into election divided, as they were divided in the 2023 presidential election.

Obaseki's political enemies joined forces and we now see the result.

I don't know if he was a good governor. If he was, he'd have had the people on his side. If he was and had poor people skills, it would cost him severely.

Dear Governor Obaseki, who are your friends in Edo State? I mean real friends?

God bless you my Brother,

Obaseki burnt down the bridge that he used in crossing, not knowing he will need that bridge when crossing back.
After losing those people who made him a Governor, he started fighting them.
His worst mistake was to fight Shuaibu who was very instrumental to make him become a governor.
I do not blame him.
Obaseki was never a politician.
He was a career person, however after he was introduced into politics, he should have done well for himself in problem solving and how to manage human resources.
Obaseki is a financial expert.
He is good at managing finance, but very poor in managing humans.

bros if your are not from Edo, it is best if you all stop reposting rumours, you claim he betrayed oshiomhole how? If he did something wrong why did oshiomhole not come out and tell Edo people what obaseki did wrong? at the apc primary he was disqualified illegally he had to switch to the pdp if you are a governor won't you at least try to fight for your office? The shaibu thing, how did obaseki betray shaibu? In nigeria how many deputy governors had free hand like the way obaseki gave so much power to shaibu, at some points shaibu serves at the acting governor because obaseki saw him as a brother, shaibu even have many ministries under his office, he had powers to make appointments to cabinet, obaseki carried him along, then he had plans to succeed obaseki, and by rotation of power it was the turn of Edo central they have never produced a governor, how difficult was this for shaibu to understand yet he still fought to succeed, I may not agree with everything obaseki did, but for most he wasn't wrong, a man must stand for something you can't just live life and just watch as everyone is just trying to dictate your every move for you. And as a governor obaseki was definitely not that bad, he did some remarkable projects, he reformed the states civil service, he was paying 40k minimum wage when the national was 30k he increased it to 70k before the federal govt approved 70k, he may not be that involved in PR but obaseki is definitely by nigeria's standard of leadership fairly ok.

Otome, Kóyo

I like your comments about Obaseki.

First of all let me clear myself.
I did not use the word BETRAYAL.
I said he fought Oshiomole and Philip Shuaibu.
So there is a difference between fighting and betrayal.

In my submission, please find out what spoilt the friendship between Obaseki and Oshiomole.
Same Obaseki was Oshiomole best man when Oshiomole got married. They were like Brother's.
In his fight between Oshiomole and Obaseki, I will agree that both of them have their equal share of the blame. But Obaseki went too far.
For his fight against Shuaibu.
We all know that it was the turn of Edo central to rule.
But as a leader and knowing how instrumental Shuaibu was for him to win his election, Obaseki did not manage that issue well with the Shuaibu camp.
He even went as far as humiliating him in the public.
He even parked his office out of the government house.
He made sure he reduced Shuaibu to nothing.
There are better ways for Leader's to handle such sensitive matters of interest.
I worked with top politicians before I traveled out.
He even crossed line's by having issues with our beloved King, HRM the Oba of Benin.
This were issues that should have been settled in closed doors without the media attention.
As regards his performance as governor.
For me, he tried in restructuring the civil service, but failed in infrastructure.
There are still major roads in GRA till now that are still flooded whenever it rains.
The APC candidate is not my choice, but the power's that be did not give a damn.
They just want to use anything or anybody to take back Edo State.
I pray that he should not keep his promise of providing the Edo people with insecurity.

Lessons to all the Obaseki's

1. Don't burn bridges that brought you across, you may have to cross later.”

2. Don't bite the hands that fed you.

Godwin Obaseki was never a politician.
All those, who made Obaseki what he is today, including the good people of Edo State,Obaseki later became ungrateful to them.

The slogan, "Edo no be Lagos" was initiated by the Edo people, when they throw their weight behind Obaseki to fight Oshiomole.
But how did he pay them?
Philip Shuaibu who was instrumental for making him the governor became his arch enemy.

My concerns for Obaseki now is that, with this very results, and Shuaibu being his deputy Governor.
Is obvious Obaseki will join Yahaya Bello to become the next fugitive Governor on the run from the EFCC.

Congratulations 🎉 to the man who promised to provide Edo State with insecurity.
May God lead him aright.

The guy was not a grassroot politician.
He was invited from Lagos to come and be part of the Edo new economy.
Instead of him to work with those who made him what he is today, he started fighting them.
His very downfall came when he fought Philip Shuaibu.
Now he knows, that he cannot win an election without Philip Shuaibu.

I can't doubt that you're literate but I seriously doubt you're educated. Do you know what an Island is? Did you study geography in school?
Have you ever seen where Onitsha and an Island are joined as a compound word? Ok, is Asaba also an island? Asaba also have a waterside you know.

About Onitsha's migration from Benin, the story has always featured in their history however, it is just part of the story. Your excerpt clearly says 'an Igbo man named Ezechima'. Do Bini people bear that kind of a name? Are there any Edoid people that bear such a name? But the same name is borne all over Igboland.
Let me also call you out about your earlier goofing. You claimed they came from 'Onuchu-Ugbo'. How come you now changed it to Benin? I repeat; your education is seriously in doubt.
You have no single point because you're just desperate to disagree with anything about Igbos even when you know nothing about the subject.
I advice you to shut your mouth and move to another topic you know something about.

We argue and interact to learn.
But with the insulting content of your comments is obvious you are an Agbero that crashed his way into a noble platform like nairaland.
You don't learn by insult, you learn by constructive discuss.
You are not my class at all.
Is unfortunate how nairaland now have acidic illiterate like you in the platform.
Is either you don't have a brain at all or you left your brain at home.
The world would have been a better place if only your father knows the use of condom.
Change your way's and learn how to learn constructively and not by insult.

You wrote Onitsha people came from "Onuchu-Ugbo". Now I ask you; is "Onuchu-Ugbo" a Bini town before or even today? Is "Onuchu-Ugbo" a Bini word? Does Bini language have the alphabet 'ch' in it?
You see, this is how to disprove criminals like you who go about revising history to soothe your jaundiced opinion.
Again, if Onitsha people are Benin people, who taught them the Igbo they were speaking at the time the Europeans came to Onitsha? Bear in mind that there's no single 'Onitsha in the whole Edo territory but many are found in different parts of Igboland.
Why did I even waste my time on someone that said Onitsha is on an Island?

Sir,
I will not argue about this subject.
I have done my fact check in the ancient town of Onitsha way back 1997.
As part of this research I paid a visit to the palace of the then Obi of Onitsha.
I will advise you to also do your fact check and visit the Onitsha archive's in the Palace of the Obi of Onitsha.
About Onitsha being an Island, in case you don't know.
We have the Onitsha water-side and the Onitsha Inland. ( MBA road, Emmanuel Church Road, Awka road, Ugwunobamkpa. just to mention a few.)

Omagba and Nkpor are not in Onitsha.

Take it or leave it.
The Ikwere's are not Igbo.
The Igbo came and corrupted their language and made it look like they speak Igbo language.
Is like saying the Onitsha people are Igbo.
The Onitsha people came from the ancient Benin empire.
Their ancestral home is still at Onuchu-Ugbo (pronounced Onitsha -Ugbo) is a town in Aniocha North in Delta state.
It was from there their early ancestors crossed the river Niger and settled in the island that is today called Onitsha.
Many of their elderly ones still have this history strong in their hearts.
Is like saying the Nupe man, or the Gbagyi man is an Hausa man.
The Hausa's through trade dominated and corrupted many languages in the ancient Northern NIGERIA.
Is so unfortunate our ancestors did not have any written history.
All this endless argument would have been laid to rest.

He should realize by now that he won the election under PDP because of Shuaibu.
So when Shuaibu said on live tv that he made Obaseki Governor, it is now obviously clear that Shuaibu was right.
