Penguin2: You are bringing technicalities into the discourse?
Levies or taxes these are just semantics. Both of them all go into the govt coffers.
And who told you that state governments have no control or share of levies collected from markets?
You mean the state governments that couldn’t leave even Federal Government allocations to LGs will leave them to be collecting and keeping levies from those large markets to themselves alone?
And besides, why do you think those tickets are usually more than one?
In most cases, they are 3. One for state government, one for LG, and one for Market Association. And this is a daily obligation.
You are basing your arguments on assumptions without concrete knowledge of what you are talking about. I reiterate, levies are for the LGAs. The one (with exception of road taxes) paid daily are for local authorities. State's tax for entrepreneur (if you like call it levy) is paid once a year. Note that the entrepreneur is required to pay PAYE monthly and consumption tax monthly or quarterly (depending on the jurisdiction) to State on behalf of their employees. The BIG question is Do they usually comply? Taxes at both federal and state's levels are complex but the information provided above focuses on the usual or normal circumstances. |

Iceberg3: Thank you very much, that's exactly what tax is all about. Little but multiple. Multiple does not usually translate to more aggregate. If you multiply N1 paid by 200 million people, it does surpass 1 billion Naira paid by a single corporate entity. If you talk about risk of sustainability of the collection of the taxes and promotion of tax culture, I will agree that multiple is better but not in terms of total in monetary terms. In fact, the cost of collecting from the multiple na die while the single entity 'walks in' with the cheaque. |

Penguin2: You extended Dangote’s tax payments to Federal Government, but our area of focus is Lagos State.
What percentage of his tax obligation goes to Lagos State every month?
And talking about the tax obligation of markets like Alaba, Ladipo, Computer Village, etc, do I need to remind you that these people do not wait till end of the month or year to file their tax returns, but are charged taxes every day through tickets and other daily payments?
Now, do you think what Dangote pays as tax in a year or what his staff pay as Personal Income Tax monthly, can compare to the summation of daily payments from Alaba, Ladipo, Computer Village, etc, for a year? Apart from. The CIT, all the aforementioned taxes are paid to the State Government via the residency rule. Daily tickets are local government levies. They are technically not called taxes. |

State government do not tax per day or months except for road taxes. Market taxes fall within the jurisdiction of LGAs. If we decide to focus on the State tax and not extend it to other tiers of government just like you have said, then those Alaba boys pay tax once in a year via Direct Assessment (DA) or minimum tax because of lack of proper record keeping or keeping proper records away from the authorities. Apart from HNIs (High Net worth Individuals), most of them pay less than N200, 000 as PIT once per year or less than N10, 000 per month (if what is usually paid is divided by 12). There are however, very few HNI among them that usually pay up to N5M per annum (those that earn in billions) Indirect Insider knowledge . Vast majority pay less than N100k as PIT per annum. Giants like Dangote pay multimillions on monthly basis to Lagos State Governments. Lagos earns billions monthly from corporate giants in Lagos on monthly basis. |

Penguin2: Don’t underestimate the power of fools in large numbers.
The above is a classic maxim that sounds like a cliché but it’s ever potent, and will remain potent forever.
The reason a character like Reno Omokri blocks people with the intellectual and rational capacity to question the trashes he consistently posts on X, is so he would be left with large flock of brainless followers who would swallow every bunkum he throws at them as true.
In keeping with the above, yesterday, he claimed that Dangote controls 21% of Lagos economy but yet he’s so humble but Igbos will always claim they built Lagos and are pompous.
I was not surprised to go through the comment section to see intellectual deficient minions praising what he wrote without questioning his submission to ascertain the truth value of that assertion.
Well, that’s what I’m here to do.
Let’s question what Reno Omokri said about Dangote controlling 21% of Lagos economy.
And the first question is, does Dangote control 21% of Lagos economy?
What drives the economy of a state or country? Is it large corporations or MSMEs?
Lagos is a city with a population of nearly 22million people. What percentage of this population does Dangote employ?
How much does Dangote pay in taxes to Lagos Government, and how much does Lagos Govt generate from markets like Alaba, ASPAMDA, Computer Village, etc?
If Dangote controls 21% of Lagos economy, what percentage of California’s economy does Apple and Google control since the two companies are both headquartered in California and they are both more valuable than Dangote by far?
What percentage of Texas’ econcompanys Tesla control since Tesla is headquartered in Texas and is equally more valuable than Dangote by far?
So, you see, a lot of foolishness sound like wisdom/knowledge to an unthinking mind but don’t let it deceive you.
What Reno Omokri said is absolute foolishness, falsThe Lagos outright distortion of facts.
Lagos is not Lagos because of Dangote company or because of the large corporations headquartered therein.
If there’s any group that forms the engine room of Lagos economy, it’s the Medium, Micro and Small Scale Businesses. This category employs the highest number of Lagosians, and this category generates the most money for Lagos.
Large corporations do not build economies.
Infrastructure, as much as it adds to ease of doing business, does not build economy like some people claimed under Buhari.
So, next time, before you celebrate any trash from Reno Omokri, subject it through logical and rational dissection to know if the statement is truly reasonable.
Penguin is a bird of reason. You want to compare the taxes paid by a corporate giant like Dangote to those paid by thousands of small to medium scale enterprises in this our own Obodo Nigeria? You must be joking. Let me educate you a little bit. I have worked as a supportive tax officer and privacy to tax paid by corporate entity like Dangote and small and medium scale enterprises. Dangote plc pays various taxes including Company Income Tax (CIT) to the federal government , personal Income Tax (PiT) on behalf of Its numerous employees, expatrates earning fat salaries. The company directors pay heavy taxes on their fat salaries to the State Government. The company also pays consumption tax, humongous withholding tax (WHT) on behalf of its numerous contractors. You can't even compare. Let me give you an example, while Dangote cement in Ibeshe, Ogun State pays between 100-200 million in tax in just a local govt to the Ogun State govt in one month, the entire taxes from other sources (DA, PAYE, Consumption tax, WHT, road taxes etc) for that LGA is not up to N10m per month. The Lagos own na die! It's like comparing heaven and Earth. Don't even go there. If you want to know those that really pay taxes, start from asking about their books of account. Many of those Alaba people and small to medium scale businesses in Nigeria do not have proper records. Those that have never present them for tax assessment. Some of them fight tax collectors who bill them a minimum tax like five to fifty thousand naira per annum while they rake in multimillion naira annually. |

My roommate who had a shop in Yaba then was a victim. Although it was not politically or tribally motivated just criminals taking advantage of the situatio. Riots lead to looting of shops but were the shops looted because they belonged to the Igbos? Big companies like Nichemtex and PZ were looted until curview was declared. I was a witness to the mass exodus of millions of apprehensive but misguided Igbo people who assumed that Yoruba secession, followed by armed conflict, was inevitable. gidgiddy: How time flies, its been 31 years since June 12th 1993, the day Bashir Tofa of NRC, and MKO Abiola of SDP, squared up to battle for the Presidency. The elections were later annulled, the fall out would claim MKO's life
However, June 12 is not something that is celebrated amongst us Igbos in the East, for two main reasons.
1. Igbos bore the brunt of the violence that followed June 12th annulment. Various armed Yoruba militias such as OPC sprang up, and wrecked violence all over the West, particularly Lagos. Igbo businesses were looted, burnt or destroyed. Overnight, thousands of Igbos had to jump into vehicles and run back to the East as the violence grew worse, in a phenomenon known as "oso Abiola"(The Abiola run). Some Igbos never returned with their lives.
2. June 12th also exposed to Igbos a certain hypocrisy they see in Yoruba's. It was Northerners that annulled June 12th, it was under the custody of a Northerner that MKO died. On the contrary, Igbo men like Professor Humphrey Nwosu, who conducted June 12th elections, nearly lost his life trying to defend MKO's results. But the Yorubas rarely ever call out the Northerners over June 12th and the death of Abiola
Had it been Igbos that annulled June 12th, had it been under the custody of an Igbo man that MKO died, heavens would have fallen.
June 12th holds no place in the hearts of us Igbos, we are still counting our loses. The above is a lie and a revisionist narrative! During the June 12 crises, I was old enough and had reached puberty. I witnessed what happened. The majority of Igbo actually left the West not because they, or their businesses were attacked. They left because they feared escalation of conflicts between the West and the North. Those returning to the East were actually attacked in the East leading to many of them loosing the property being taken home. Why the lies? MKO Abiola actually lost the majority of States in the East to his rival Tofa. The East had four States then. Abiola only won in Anambra out of the four States. So, he was not popular in the East even before election. So, it wasn't any attack on Igbo businesses that made them to 'hold no good memories for Igbo', he wasn't that popular among them before and during the election. My first ever girlfriend was a beautiful Igbo girl. She was selling Okrika for her parents then. She left for the East during this period which was very painful. No attack directed at Igbo or their businesses during the period. It was fear of the unknown and bandwagon effect that informed the mass exodus. |

jesusjnr2020: Is It True The Forbidden Fruit In The Garden Was Sex?
You may have also heard the claims being made by some so-called Christians that the forbidden fruit in the garden was sex, and that Eve had sex with the serpent, also that Cain was the seed of the serpent.
As weird and irritating as that idea sounds, could they be right?
The best way to find out is to go back to the beginning to see what the Bible says about that.
Genesis 2:9 (KJV)
And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.
So first of all, it was made perfectly clear that the trees God planted in the garden were not in the figurative but literal sense just as we see them up to this very day.
Trees that produce edible fruits which could serve as food to man.
God planted different kinds of such trees which produce edible fruits in the garden, among which was the tree of knowledge of good and evil.
Genesis 2:15-17 (KJV)
And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it. And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.
So it was after God had planted those trees which produce fruits that could serve as food to man in the garden, that He gave man the right to eat of the fruits of every one of them, except for the tree of knowledge of good and evil.
That's actually where the term "forbidden fruit" stemmed from.
It was because God had forbidden man from eating of the edible fruit produced by that particular tree out of all the trees He had planted in that garden.
So where could they have possibly gotten the idea that the forbidden fruit was sex?
According to the Bible so far, we can all see it definitely wasn't from God.
God bless. Does the tree of life and tree of knowledge of good and evil still exist till this day? If yes, where can they be found? At least, there is no where on Earth that man have not or cannot explored. Could it be that the tree of life and it's counterpart were also figurative or outrightly fabricated? If serpent as mentioned in the story is snake as it's often referred. why haven't we seen snake that can communicate with human to the extent of deceiving human? |
