Not too long, the the daily occurrence of Monday Sit-at-home and other UGM acts of insecurity were such a daily occurrence in the SE that one would always expect reports like that to always make the headlines on Nairaland and other media outlets, but recently that conundrum seems to have ended or drastically reduced across the SE. The reasons for this could be due to the recent albeit robust security measures the SE leadership are beginning to take in order to curb this menace...Enugu took the initiative in tackling insecurity under Peter Mbah by coming up with the brillant implementation of a Command and Control Center to digitally monitor all the major flashpoint areas around the Enugu metropolis, including re-equipping various security agencies with standard logistics- even the Nsukka-Opi highway that used to be a hub of kidnappings is now so secure and peaceful- and this is owing to the encouraging presence of more DRS (Distress Rapid Squad) units along that axis that Mbah launched recently, this DRS units are now backed by forest guards...best part is all this new security forces are IGBOS.

Next in line in finally taking proactive security measures is Soludo who just launched the homeland security outfit "Agunechemba" with the watchword codenamed "Udo Ka chi" (May peace return). Anambra recently has been grappling with a surge of insurgency especially in Ihiala and Orsumoghu axis that share a boundary with Imo state...Agunechemba security are now operating in those axis and the results though still early are shaping up to be promising so far.

Imo state under Hope Uzodimma is hot and cold, but the major hotbed of insecurity there has been in the Orsu-ihiteukwa areas is now getting cleansed by newly formed vigilantes along with the military, just few days ago the perpetrators of the horrific killings of over 20 innocent souls in Orsu were apprehended and their henchmen sent to hell, and yesterday three leaders of the terrorist groups belonging to Simon Ekpas "Biafran Liberation army" were caught. Imo and Anambra state governors are finally addressing the insecurity problems in those common boundary areas and the results are paying off.

Abia under Otti is doing really well security-wise, Otti has surpassed expectations.

Ebonyi has been dealing with communal clash issues every now and again but has been largely peaceful outside of that.

I drove around Enugu-Onitsha expressway and then around the major city areas in Anambra and was impressed by how people were out in numbers going about their daily lives, the commercial activities are back in Alaigbo and it gives cause for hope.

Ogun prophet shot dead during church service

A 54-years-old prophet of the Celestial Church of Christ, Eagle Parish has been shot dead by unknown gunmen in Odo Eran, Idiroko area of Ogun state.

The victim identified as Yomi Adetula, was shot at about 10:30am on Sunday, during a church service and his head severely damaged with an axe.

DAILY POST gathered that the three assailants came into the church, brought out a long double barrel gun, opened fire on the victim and thereafter fled the scene.

Confirming the incident to DAILY POST, the police spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, said the victim was found in the pool of his blood with his head faced up.

Odutola said, “Police officers raced to the scene and saw one Yomi Adetula, male, aged about 54yrs lifeless in the pool of his own blood which stained his white celestial garment, lying face up.

” On careful observation, his body was riddled with blets and his head was not speared, to ensure the victim was really dead it was mangled with axe.

"On police inquiry, information further revealed that three men came into the church, brought out long double barrel gun, aimed at their target and fired a shot that brought the deceased down”

Odutola noted that with the effort of the Idiroko Divisional Police officer, the corpse was deposited
at the General Hospital morgue, Ilaro.

She stated that investigations has been launched into the very sad occurrence and efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects who escaped towards the border area.

Yes the SE leadership and people themselves can't be blameless from this new conundrum most of which is self-inflicted, but let's not pretend the reason why ESN was formed in the first place was to curb the sudden incursion of Fulani bandits into the SE, a region the APC government failed to protect and carry along! ESN went rogue and derailed from it's mission and various criminal splinter groups invaded the East and took advantage of the chaos, and the rest is now history.

I can guarantee you that over 50% of the violence in the SE are politically sponsored, especially since the discovery of huge deposits of natural gas in
the region.

Ask yourself why every square foot mile of highways across the South East have the heavy presence of military checkpoints, yet abductions still occur on those same axis almost on a daily basis...are these kidnappers so invincible that a whole stretch of roads dotted by DSS, Military, Police and even Navy checkpoints can't detect them?

There are mounting concerns over the increasing population of destitute and the threat they pose to the environment, especially in Oyo and Ogun states. Residents and motorists said it was high time governments of the Southern states had taken proactive steps to check their influx

Apart from the increasing number of destitute, residents lamented that their presence on road medians, carved out spaces in motor parks, junctions and roundabouts, in deviance to environmental laws, are worrisome.

Unfortunately, destitution has allegedly become a money-making venture across the South-West states, where thousands of people from the North and other neighbouring countries found their way through Kwara and or Kogi to Ogbomoso, Oyo, Ibadan, through to Ogere in Ogun State, and then to Kara, from where they dispersed to other parts of Lagos.

The Guardian gathered that some travelled in droves to the South-West without checks. An Ibadan resident, Kunle Adesola, said part of what also encourages them is that many unsuspecting Nigerians bring food items, used clothes, and other disposable materials to them” as a form of sacrifice to appease the gods”.

According to him, the majority of the children produced by these destitute are not given any form of education or vocational skills. “They rather continue in the begging ventures of their parents,” Adesola said. They are often found around Mokola Flyover in Ibadan, Ojoo, Challenge Bus Stop, and Akinyele in Ibadan.

“But as of today, the destitute are fast spreading and stationing in other strategic places like Gbagi and Bodija,” he said. In Ogun State, commercial bus operators at Ogijo Terminal, under the Sagamu Local Government, yesterday lamented how the activities of these destitute are becoming an eyesore, adding that they have also converted the drainage behind them into their convenience.

According to a driver, Isiaka Mayowa, they dump their refuse, urinate, and also defecate inside the drainage. He said this is daily and “you can see how dirty the drainage is”.

He added that the government should find a means to regulate their activities, mainly how they affect the environment. One of the street sweepers, who works under contract with the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), Abike Nureni, said it wasn’t easy cleaning the Ikorodu Roundabout daily due to the nuisance generated by the destitute.

It was also learnt that the Oyo State government has routinely taken steps to address the issue of the ubiquitous destitute. Former Governor Abiola Ajimobi once resettled them at Akinyele, while the incumbent governor, Seyi Makinde, has taken several measures to address the menace but with little effect.

A trader at Mokola and another at Ojoo said: “We recall how often Task Force officials come to raid the destitute, but they keep returning to the spots.”
When contacted for comments, Oyo State Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Mojeed Mogbonjubola, stated that his ministry could not speak on the issue.

However, his Ogun State counterpart, Ola Oresanya, stated that the state government has always taken up the responsibility to provide convenience to the destitute.

He explained that since the laws in Nigeria do not discriminate against any citizen from whatever part of the country they came from, the Ogun State government takes the issue as a challenge. Oresanya also disclosed that his ministry liaised with leaders of the destitute communities across the state on ways to handle their conveniences.

Stop wasting your men fighting Guerilla wars with terrorists. borrow a leaf from Isreal and do the needful.

Unfortunately your NA lacks the fighting IQ and training of Isreal, no be by gragra or scorched earth tactics that only results to civilian deaths and more casualties of NA officers and men. Guerilla warfare is a very cagey and asymmetrical type of warfare that requires lots of intense training especially in jungle maneuvers, familiarization with terrain, local collaboration and counter intelligence in dealing ruthlessly with separatist insurgence of this nature. Too much emotions without tact only leads to more soldiers getting killed while the ESN miscreants only lose few men.
