Very low quality of discourse. Certainly this letter is not at the level or standard expected of a Vice Chancellor. It is emotional condescending and abusive. The VC vents his frustrations instead of providing solutions. After all he was appointed to lead the university.

You are funny, so Oxford VC and Harvard VC letters are the yardsticks for any VC to write good letter. Mahatma Gandhi once said "Silence becomes cowardice when occasion demands speaking out the whole truth and acting accordingly". I don't see anything wrong in the letter, he only said gospel truth about the institution and he has already given them solution to minimize students failure but the parents are not buying it, there's none so blind as those who will not listen.

You know what, Iran( Another Socialist Islamic democratic state) still has higher starndard of living far better than Venezuela.

Both Countries(Iran and Venezuela) live better, and finer than Nigeria if not all the countries in Africa.

Firstly, the picture above is not Venezuela current banknotes but it is their formal banknotes, which they changed last year after cancelled five zero from their currency.
Secondly, You can't compare Nigeria with Venezuela that has hyperinflation of annual inflation rate of 1,300,000%, power cuts, high rate of emigration and they struggling to afford basic amenities. Nigeria is better than Venezuela presently with all available economy or social indicator.
Thirdly, Venezuela is south American country which means it is far to USA but they still move to USA, although majority of them migrate to Colombia and Peru.

to put it in context, when a bag of cement was around N600 between 1994-1999, very few Nigerians could afford to build standard homes because few Nigerians could afford cement at such prices.



now, between 2008 & 2014 when cement fluctuated be N1,200-N2,800, a higher number of Nigerians could afford to build standard homes despite the higher prices.


you had more Nigerians buying cars & the standard of living improved greatly & the effect was general, except up north where the common folks seem to be allergic to good life.



today, price of goods have increased but no commensurate increases in PP of individual households (except the saints of pmb).



while there are other causalities imbedded in the standard of living analysis, fact remains that Nigerians are generally poorer today, economically & politically, then they were 3 years ago...

You are partially right, i'm not fan of both leaders but you cant compare them with purchasing power coz dey operate in different economy cycle. during Jonathan administration Nigeria was in prosperity, and later part of his administration, Nigeria was in recession. Buhari administration started with recession, to depression at moment Nigeria is in recovery. No government can increase in purchasing power during depression (general decline in economic activity). Wait till buhari administration enter prosperity (I pray it will happen)
