I understand your position. The work is still ongoing due to rain, now that the rain has sub-sized the work will be completed before xmas. Already the major contractor handling the expressway will soon get to that point to ashphalt the road.

I believe u misunderstood me.
What i mean is that it would not be so wise to site such a mall in a saturated state like Anambra.

There is nothing wrong in siting it. It can even be sited a little bit off the major cities of Awka or Onitsha..

INNO18: lol. Lwkmd. Ukachukwu might be from my hometown, that doesnt mean he is me. Anyway, chino, has Anambra started receiving derivations from it's oil output. I thought the ownership dispute, would hinder it.

There is thing that will hinder it, because the oil is largely in Anambra and also the actual production is taking place there. Ofcos once you are listed on the league of oil producing states as an oil producer, then the state starts receiving the 13%. So presently Anambra should be receiving it now. I passed thru the Orient Head Qtrs here in Abuja estates-Awka, I can assure you that there is now beehive of activities. People were trooping in to get one favor or the other and also job seekers. It has even made land values within and around the estate to skyrocket.

INNO18: if u ask me i'd opine that the rite person for the job in 2014 would be soludo. Just my opinion ooo.

Actually Obi has laid the ground work. Led Anambra into the league of oil producing states, thereby boasting its economy and IGR, attracted multinational companies, encouraging the building of first Nigeria indigenous oil company and Refinery in Awka and Otuocha.

What is your position Ukachukwu?

Abagworo:

LMFAO @prestigious indeed. Maybe in our grandfathers times. The issue here is not whether he was wealthy or not. The State he is governing has no single mall. As a Governor he should influence his family to invest in his State and not outside. What's the example he's showing? From all you(Chino11) have been feeding us on this forum, his only achievement is SABmiller beer company.

DMGS, CKC, QRC all in Onitsha are the foremost and first established colleges in the East as a whole. DMGS was established by a Briton, that is why it was christened Dennis Memorial College. The same thing applies to CKC also established by the whites missionaries. They prestigious schools in the East that can compete with King's college lagos, Wederal College Calabar. Even Pat Utomi is a product of CKC, same as Obi.

Peter Obi is an Osha boy. His family has too many investments already in Onitsha where he grew up. I don't need to lecture you.

Did Udenwa and Ohakim invest a dime in imo state..no wonder it remains a dry place. Udenwa and Ohakim stole your state dry and invested it outside the country for and behalf of their families.

Even Orange Drugs who happens to come from your place, left imo state and invested billions of dollars in his massive plant in Anambra state. The last I passed through owerre en route PH, it was more like a dead, dry and abandoned town. You better save your energy and use it to push your people to leave Lagos, Anambra and Rivers to come and invest in your imo state.

Thanks a lot.
Besides, would it make economic sense to build such a mall in a state that has the biggest market in West Africa?

Nwanne mu don't mind all these bad belles..

Obi would have diverted Sabmiller which invested over 15 billion in Onitsha, if he does not want the good of the state. SABMILLER investment in Onitsha represents single largest investment Nigeria has seen in the last 10yrs not to talk of SE.

List a 5billion Naira investment owned by Obi in his State. This mall issue doesn't augur well for his image as as a Governor..

It is not a direct investment of PO..

Next International which is owned by PO is building the Mall. The same Next has invested in Onitsha, Lagos and Abuja. Look up there site:

For what..why will this ediot born of a p/r/o/s/t/i/t/u/t/i/o/n in imo state come online to insult the most advanced people of black extraction- Anambra? The only people that produced giants that makes SE and Nigeria thick and proud.

Ricky_Ross:

Thats why other tribes mock Igbos. Tell me what makes you superior to someone from say Imo State or Calabar? The way you are running your mouth shows you are indeed a Peter Obi paid agent.

Is Anambra better than any other state in Nigeria? Is it not the same Anambra where most people love money more than their soul? Vietnam/Cambodia were very nice places for all black people before Nnewi bandits flooded the place and started duping, raping and stealing every where which was why Vietnam government mandated ALL NIGERIANS to leave Vietnam within 2 weeks. Asians hate Africans today simply bc of the bad attitude of criminally minded Anambra people.

Take Imo as another instance. Most of the kidnappers and hardened armed robbers caught in Imo State this year are from Anambra and you are here blabling shiiit? I Know that all Nigerians love money but Anambra no get compare. Its rare to see any sane Igbo manor woman marrying from that place. Please take your stupidity and naivety elsewhere. If Anambra is superior to other people Onitsha will not be the dirtiest slum in Nigeria. And if Anambra is safe for business you lots will not be running to develop other states. Even petty traders and apprentice in Onitsha are not safe, they are robbed, harrased and kidnapped daily and you still have the effrontery to claim superiority to other places. Come to Owerri this weekend all hotels are filled to capacity and many of the occupants are people from your state. have you ever heard any sane person going to Onitsha to spend weekend? UNLESS OF-COURSE YOU WANT TO DIE. Your superiority is all about PUSHING COCAINE and producing FAKE DRUGS to make quick money.

Imagine when your governor is busy fighting for the sit kept for Obi..that tells alot about you guys..

The only investment and enterprise in imo state today that everybody knows is prostitution. Am sure your sisters are harlots by now because it runs in the blood of you guys.

No Anambra indegene is living nor has ever invested in your imo state. Anambra is safe for foriegn and local investors beacause your brother Tony Ezenna (orange drugs) recently invested billions in Onitsha.

Onitsha is presently clean and good for investors that it why they are trooping to the state instead of looking your way. How many has he invested in your so called harlotry imo state? Today your governor is beafing him because of that when there is no conducive business environment in your place. Criminal and kidnappers has over run your state. At the Drug Market Head Bridge, 98% of the people that invested there are people from your state..go and confirm. I have not for once seen anybody that wants to go to imo state for anything whatsoever, except the person wants to go and import pr/os/ti/t/ut/es that are the cheapest thing in your dungeon called imo state..

Here is the company: it has been in business since 1982, so the company has financial capacity to invest in a mall, it mustn't be from Obi's pocket.

Next International has office/investments in Onitsha, Lagos and Abuja. Look up the the site.

SlyIg: And why didnt he build this in his state capital to promote it. Awka seems to be one of the poorest state capitals i've ever been to-Dirty, erosion friendly, refuse dumb, bad road,no gutter and good drainage system,no good plaza etc. Unizik junction that is suppose to be a plaza with flowers and water fountain is a refuse dumb and gully erosion. But see the state governor investing his state money somewhere else. Hmmmmm...

You don't know what you are talking about. Maybe you are talking of Awka of 10yrs ago, but recent findings has shown that you are talking utter rubbish. Awka has some of the most modern architectures in the SE. Its on record that one can hardly see a house in Awka that was not built with modern long span roofing sheet, instead of ordinary CIS that are common else. With the new UN-Habitat masterplan Awka is going to the top. Below is the same Unizik junction as at 2 months ago. Work is seriously taking place there, coupled with the reconstruction of the Onitsha-Awka fed. highway that will pass there.

THIS IS UNIZIK TEMP. SITE JUNCTION UNDER-GOING MASSIVE RECONSTRUCTION AND REMODELING.

Anambra has the best road network that traversed the entire state. I can assure you, you can travel on a smooth road from Awka to Agulu to Ekwulobia to Uga with your eyes closed. From there you take off to Igbariam to Otucha to Aguleri same story.

As for owere once you step out of the town your already in the dungeon, the same thing applies to enugu. Its a fact

What is happening in your Owerre or enugu foolish man..where have you traveled to?

The last I checked all those govs you mentioned are below Obi in performance and good governance by miles..

Anambra is the least indebted state in Nigeria. The two states you mentioned are on the list of financial dead states, so how could they be doing better than a state with clean bill of health.

Anambra has the best road network, traversing all the community in the state. Development are not limited to our urban centers alone as seen in those states you mentioned. Outside enugu and owere urban, the entire state is bushy not motorable and hugely underdeveloped. I know that you cannot say the same for Anambra where all the communities are ashphalted and developed.

Abagworo: The rhetorical question is between Onitsha and Abuja which is more commercially viable? The markets in Onitsha just like most open markets in Nigerian shanty cities are of the lowest standard on earth, why can't Obi set a new standard by siting this project at Oba or Nkpor and make the stands affordable for a take off of advanced shopping in Onitsha.

You call this a shanty? You must be out of your mind. If you want shanty markets go to aba biko..

Btw: who told you that the Mall belongs to PO? Get your facts right before showing off your ignorance..

This is the prestigious Onitsha Main Market with television sets adorning the various lines..am yet to see a singular organized market Nigeria as this..

This is being constructed in GRA-Onitsha, billed to be completed march 2013.

Governor Peter Obi has officially laid the foundation stone of the multi-billion naira Anambra State Hotel and Convention Centre, Onitsha. The facility is one of the multiple development projects to be sited in the area. He announced that before the end of the year government will also lay the foundation stone for an international shopping mall in the area. According to the Governor, other similar shopping malls will also be built in Awka and Nnewi.

Performing the function, Governor Obi said the project was part of the initiatives to restore the glory of the commercial city and attract back businesses as well as generate employment. He said the projects would provide suitable facilities for investors and others visiting the State.

The Governor disclosed that measures have been initiated to boast power supply to the State to fast tract industrial development and enhance socio-economic activities.

The traditional ruler of Onitsha, Igwe Alfred Achebe observed that it was the first time such project is being sitted in the area as is happening in many parts of the State and commended the Governor for maintaining his tempo of development in all sectors under Governor Obi and urged the people to take steps to ensure sustainability.

On why the foundation was just laid even when the building has reached the 4th floor, the Commissioner for Local Government, Mrs Azuka Enemuo said that all attempts to lay the foundation earlier was not possible as the Governor maintained that such acts were mere ceremonies and that what mattered most was that work was going on.

Speaking later, the Transition Committee Chairman, Orumba North, Mr. Emeka Aforka said the Governor had created enabling environment for tourism to thrive and enjoined the organized private sector to take advantage of the opportunity.

Also speaking, the Transition Committee Chairman, Anocha Local Government Council, Mr. Emeka Chijioke said the hotel would further raise standard in the city and generate employment.

BELOW ARE THE PICTURES OF THE PROJECT..

It was designed by a South African firm..

The above adds to my shock why the man still cannot develop the State. He just sits there and keeps complaining about poor federal allocation while Fashola is busy looking for means of IGRs to develop his state. Chimaroke came straight from London and was literally unopposed as we was seen as a messaih, but I don't want to go into how the man destroyed both the state and himself.

I know that there are forces that fight against development and good governance, but is it only in Nigeria they prevail.

Both the led and our leaders travel abroad and see how things work, many have made things work even where they worked abroad, but once they return here they loose it.

About 2 years ago When I traveled the Onitsha-Enugu express way where I used to ply in my campus days I saw unimaginable filth and gullies on a once smooth highway and was wondering what Governor Peter Obi was doing with all his experinces and qualifications leading those companies.

I'm short of words.

And who told you that Obi has not developed and industrialized Anambra beyond every other SE state?

Obi brought the singular FDIs worth over 15B..am talking of Sabmiller has been commissioned and running. This is singular investment that affected positively to Anambra and Nigeria at large.

Obi is developing all the sector simutenoulsy without looking back..

As for Onitsha-Awka federal highway it has since been awarded:

AWKA — THE Federal Government yesterday granted approval to Anambra State government to reconstruct the controversial Anambra end of the Onitsha-Enugu expressway.

Anambra State would receive reimbursement from the Federal Government later.

The approval was seen as a great relief to Governor Peter Obi, who had been pleading with the Federal Government to allow the state government reconstruct the road and get the money later in the interest of the users.

Minister of Works, Mr. Mike Onolememen, who announced the approval during a visit to Governor Obi in Awka, said President Goodluck Jonathan’s approval was due to the governor’s consistent pleading and several representations to the Federal Government on the need for speedy completion of the project.

According to the minister, the Bridgehead to Zik’s round about axis of the dual carriageway was awarded to the Nigercat Construction Company, while Zik’s roundabout to Amansea in Awka was awarded to the Consolidated Construction Company – CCC, and explained that the partitioning of the road to the two contractors was to ensure early completion of the project and save the people of the South-East from untold hardship.

He said: “The president has approved that Anambra State government should finance the job which the new contractor -Nigercat- will do, while the federal ministry of works will reimburse the state at the end of the project.
