Abagworo: Chino11=Ohaneze1. Please stop putting yourself to disgrace while trying to talk down on your brother. I have made my positions known on Rochas. I think his priorities are misplaced at the moment because he wants to leave a long lasting physical mark but there is definitely more that needs to be done. The multiple projects he's carrying are unrealizable with the low revenue of Imo State. We cannot start same projects with Rivers and Akwa-Ibom who are 5 times richer. It will only lead to dozens of abandoned projects.

There is definitely more crime in your State than mine but I will never engage in anything derogatory to my brothers again because of you. So many people like Onlytruth, Mr Globe and others are worthy Igbo sons that are not clanish and I also consider myself one.

If we rolled out the comparison na you go run.

Now answer the question 'nwa badger'. Wasn't Ohakim better? grin grin

I TRY as much as possible to read Newspapers from all divides on daily basis in order to take readings from all angles. This is done either through the patronage of vendors or through a click on the net especially when out of base.

However having been in transit for most of 30th August and 1st September, 2012 I missed out on the newspapers for these days. Fortunately, on a visit to a friend some days later, I stumbled on a copy of The Nigerian Punch newspaper of 1st September. Amongst other things that caught my attention was a news report on page 10 of the newspaper titled ‘’Ex-govs, Obi fight over Anambra Oil’. On seeing this, I was really not surprised knowing the war going on ‘’right under my nose’’.

Nonetheless, I took time to read the news if only to compare notes. The story written by one Emmanuel Obey stated that the fight occurred at the official inauguration of exploitation of crude oil by the Orient Petroleum Resources Ltd effectively making Anambra State to join the league of oil producing States. One of the former governors, Dr. Chinwoke Mbadinuju (PDP, 1999-2003) had told the gathering that he set up the committee that established Orient Petroleum, appointed its first board and secured oil license for it to exploit oil in 2002. He demanded that he should be given the credit for conceiving the vision. Dr Chris Ngige (PDP (now ACN)2003-March, 2006) demanded to be given the credit for converting Orient to a public company, inviting investors from far and wide to invest in the Company and invested an initial amount of N100million with promise to make available more funds. Mrs. Virgy Etiaba (APGA, 3rd Nov. 2006-9 Feb. 2007) demanded recognition for not relenting in her efforts to sustain the project during her three –month tenure.

Although the story did not report the comments of Governor Peter Obi (APGA, 9 Feb. 2007 till now) but I imagined he would have supported the project and perhaps provided additional investment in line with the promises of Governor Chris Ngige. Also, former CBN Governor, Prof Chukmuma Soludo who indeed contested an election against the incumbent commented that Orient will ‘’jump start aggressive and strategic socio-economic development’’ of Anambra State. After reading the details of the fight, not only did I hail the fight and the fighters, I prayed to God to cause this kind of fight to repeat itself in every nooks and crannies of Nigeria. It is always said that when two elephants fight, the grass suffers but in this case the fight is happening after the elephants have sufficiently provided water for the grass to continue to grow and blossom. The elephants have done well. They have put political fight or war aside to provide opportunity to create employment, enhance revenue generation and generally improve the socio economic development of Anambra State.

It is a people-centered fight. A fight that benefits the common man. Again, may God bless the fight and bless the fighters.I left my friend’s house leaving the newspaper behind. Throughout that evening, I kept imagining how the kind of Anambra fight can accelerate the strategic socio-economic development of my dear State; the Gateway State. I begin to imagine what will happen to the life of the common man if Anambra fight is repeated over some major life changing projects that I am privileged to know about by virtue of the position I held in Ogun State between 2004 and 2010. I thought of so many of such vision or project a few of which are highlighted below: AGRO-CARGO AIRPORTThe immediate past administration in Ogun State secured an approval to set up an Agro-Cargo Airport at the Ogere/Iperu axis of this State with the objective of transforming the State into a major cargo hub given its strategic geographical location as the Gateway to Nigeria and West Africa.

Crime / Bandits On The Loose In Imo by Ohaneze1: 10:23am On Sep 16, 2012
For Mr. Christian Iwunze, life was about family. He was the second of two siblings and the only son. But, as if to compensate for his parents’ slim family, he did not only opt for early marriage, he also had more children than they did.

A baby girl opened the womb for the family. Two more girl children followed in quick succession. After the usual trepidation of “are we going to end up with an all-female family,” a set of twin boys was born. If you thought that was enough, then wait for this: another three girls came in quick succession. Then, another set of twin boys!

Blessed with such a large family, Iwunze knew no life outside the family apart from his job in an oil servicing company.

Though Iwunze and wife, Catherine, did not obtain university education, virtually all their children do, with some acquiring postgraduate degrees in engineering, while one of their daughters is pursuing a doctoral degree.

For a man that had spent all his life in the training of his children, Iwunze, an indigene of Umueze, Ehime-Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State was elated when one of his first set of twin boys, Okechukwu, announced his wedding. Iwunze took it as his personal responsibility to ensure that this happened without any breach.

Okechukwu’s wedding to Miss Uchechi Orji was fixed for Saturday, September 5, but four days before the event, on Tuesday, August 28, tragedy struck! A group of five unidentified men shot Iwunze to death just at the gate of his residence on 19, Umundula Orji Street, Off Urattah Road, Owerri, Imo State.

Iwunze was killed two days after suspected hired assassins murdered a former director of the Central Bank of Nigeria; and one day after a politician was murdered, all in Owerri, the Imo State capital.

The suspected assassins killed the former CBN director, Mr. Charles Nwosu, at the Ekeukwu Central Market on Douglas Road. A police inspector who engaged the hoodlums in a gun battle and two unidentified persons were also killed.

Their killers operated in a RAV 4 Sports Utility Vehicle and, mysteriously, the killers of Iwunze also operated in a RAV 4 Sports Utility Vehicle. Could it be that the killers of the erstwhile CBN director also killed Iwunze? If they were the same killers, what was the connection? These questions have remained unanswered. Worse still, law enforcements agents in Imo State seem overwhelmed by the growing insecurity.

Before now, several people, including traditional rulers, businessmen, politicians and public office holders had, at various times and places, either been kidnapped for ransom or murdered in cold blood for reasons yet unknown. Consequently, especially in areas that do not have enough police presence, night life has nose-dived in the state.

One of such victims was Pastor Anselm Iwuala, who was still murdered by his abductors despite a N500,000 paid by his family for his freedom.

Iwuala was travelling to his country home in Egberede Nguru, Aboh Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State, when he was abducted by gunmen on the very busy Okpala-Mbaise road. That was in June.

Again, on the night of May 7, 2012, the traditional ruler of Umueze-Abazu, Ogwa, Mbaitoli LGA, Eze Stanley Akuneto, was allegedly murdered in cold blood in his palace by two gunmen who reportedly rode on a motorcycle.

And as if to underscore the crass helplessness of the situation, even the governor’s elder sister, her husband, members of her household and all the occupants of the three cars on her convoy escaped death narrowly on May 19, 2012, when armed robbers opened fire on the vehicle in which they were travelling at Egbeada, Mbaitoli LGA.

Indeed, the list of dastardly acts is endless.

When our correspondent visited the police station in Owerri North, where the matter concerning Iwunze’s killing was referred to, the police officers on duty all refused to speak. It was also difficult to ascertain the identities of the officers being talked to, as they each covered their name tags with handkerchiefs.

In response to our correspondent’s enquiry, one of them simply said, “The matter has been transferred to the state CID. Go there and find out what is happening.”

The Imo State Commissioner of Police, Adisa Bolanta, also did not comment on the matter. He would not take his calls and did not respond to text messages sent to his mobile telephone.

Iwunze’s first child, Mrs. Peace Okeke, said, “My father was a peaceful man and was not a politician. He diligently went about his work. He was once offered a chieftaincy title because of his contribution to his community, but he rejected it,” Mrs. Okeke explained.

She said, “He was even offered a knighthood in the church but he also rejected it. He kept on saying that he was not interested in receiving titles or holding positions, but only wanted to help his people and serve God.

“I just don’t know where this is coming from. From the stories we have been hearing, it is becoming obvious that people were paid to kill my father. What for, I don’t know. It is still a mystery to us.”

Despite the sad issue, the family went ahead with the wedding, consoled by the fact that their late father would not have had it otherwise.

In the interim, Iwunze’s widow, Catherine, has yet to find her voice. She is still in shock and, according to one of her daughters, Peace, she has remained in a state of shock since the incident.

Okechukwu’s twin brother, Emeka, expressed concern that the police have yet to come up with concrete finding since their father’s death.

Emeka said, “We have been the ones reminding them that they need to investigate the matter. They have been so reluctant to interrogate any of us. We had to compel them to remove the car my father rode in when he was killed, which they only did on Tuesday, a week after the incident.

“I am surprised at the action of the police. Those who killed my father overtook his car and waited at our gate; and when he tried to drive into the compound, they rushed out and shot at the tyres. Then, two of them dragged my father out of the car, leaving his 20-year-old apprentice, Cletus Ikeadi, behind.

“They took him to their jeep and as soon as one of the remaining three assassins who stayed behind in the jeep identified him, they rained bullets on him. But till date, the police have been acting as though nothing happened and everyone in Owerri is now scared of walking on the street.”

Meanwhile, the Imo State Government, in its efforts to curb crime in the state, has concluded arrangements to launch emergency rapid response scheme, especially to curb kidnapping and assassinations.

Governor Rochas Okorocha disclosed this when the new Commissioner of Police, Mr. Adisa Bolanta paid him a visit earlier in the month.

Okorocha informed the new police commissioner that he would ask the Inspector General of Police to post more policemen to the state, especially in local government areas which are currently underpoliced.

The governor noted that the security challenges in the state included kidnapping, vandalism, assassinations, among others; urging the new police commissioner to brace up to the challenges, with the aim of restoring peace to the beleaguered state.

In his response during a tour of some South-East states recently, the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Mohammed Abubakar, urged the governor to create more jobs for Imo people. This, according to him, would help in reducing crime in the state.

He promised to assist the governor and Imo people in their bid to reduce crimes in the state.

The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Security Matters, Mr. Okey Okorocha, said in order to reduce the crime rate, the Imo State Government had initiated an incentive — giving N1m to anybody who could give useful information leading to the arrest of kidnapers in the state, while any person that provides information for the recovery of guns would be awarded N50,000.

The state government has also offered insurance scheme to members of the local vigilante groups that may, in the course of duty, either sustain injuries or die.

Governemnt said an undisclosed amount of money would be paid as compensation to the bereaved family.

The aide also revealsed that the state government had introduced a radio programme where callers were provided with information on security measures in the state.

He revealed that Americans and Israeli agencies were training some persons on how to combat kidnappers.

He said, “As soon as these people conclude their training, kidnapping will be over in the state.”

I noticed this 'trend city' about two months ago, but i'm not attaching any significance towards it until contracts are signed and ground is broken. Rochas hasn't impressed me lately with his too much talking and not much (besides plans for this and that) on ground even when his second year in office is approaching the halfway mark.

Politics / Lagos, Kaduna, C’river, Ogun, Oyo Top Foreign Debtors’ List by Ohaneze1: 10:18am On Aug 04, 2012
Lagos, Kaduna, Cross River, Ogun and Oyo occupied the top position on the list of external debts incurred by state governments as of June 30, 2012.

According to states and Federal Government’s external debt stock obtained by SATURDAY PUNCH from the Debt Management Office, Borno, Delta, Plateau, Taraba and Anambra states had the lowest external debts.

Lagos topped the list of external debtors with $517,677,672 as of June 30, 2012.

The foreign debt increased by 5.25 per cent from $491,847.295 in December, 2011.

However, while other four states depend on federal allocations, Lagos generates a huge internal revenue, which was about N23bn monthly in the first quarter of the year.

Next to Lagos is Kaduna with $197,155.525 foreign debt as against $182,261,250 in December 2011.

Cross River has $109,351,503 external debt. As of December, the state’s external debt was $107,532,721.

Ogun State is the fourth most indebted state with $96,285.547 as of June 30, 2012. Its external debt increased by 1.8 per cent from $94,575,129.

Oyo’s external debt (the fifth) was $78,878,401 as of June 30, 2012, as against $78,085,379 in December 2011.

SATURDAY PUNCH investigations showed that the present administrations in Ogun and Oyo inherited the foreign debts from their predecessors.

States, whose external debts are low, include Borno ($12,726,028); Delta ($15,785,110); Plateau ($20,190,627); Taraba ($20,681,527) and Anambra ($25,370,842).

At the zonal level, South-West leads the external debtors with $840,913,596, followed by the North-West, $473,305,365; South-South, $289,952,619; North-Central, $189,192,241 and North-East, $186,303, 921.

Checks at the Federal Ministry of Finance indicated that Lagos got N9.34bn as federal allocation in June; while Kaduna received N4.71bn; Ogun, N3.67bn; Cross River, N3.93bn; and Oyo, N4.40bn.

The federal allocations in June for the least indebted states were: Borno, N4.39bn; Delta, N14.22bn; Taraba, N3.64bn and Anambra, N3.80bn.

Most states, except Lagos, which rakes in an average of N23bn monthly as internally generated revenue, rely on federal allocations.

Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola, had at the annual public lecture of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, in Lagos in June, stated that the state’s monthly IGR was N23bn.

Fashola, who was represented by Lateef Abari, Permanent Secretary, Public Service Office, IGR of the state, said the amount rose from a paltry N600m monthly in 1999 to its current N23bn.

External debts of other states, apart from the 10 mentioned above are: Abia, $32,675,171; Adamawa, $29,183,118; Akwa Ibom, $61,198,851; Bauchi, $63,029,387; Bayelsa, $27,897,951; Benue, $26,501,393 and Ebonyi $41,060,946.

Edo State’s foreign debt is $41,408,440; Ekiti, $34,071,754; Enugu, $47, 788,769; Gombe, $29,572,867; Imo, $50,573,894; Jigawa, $28,720,760; Kano, $59,400,227; Katsina, $74,147,092 and Kebbi, $47,132,689.

Kogi State is owing $33,976,282; Kwara, $43,798,143; Nasarawa, $36, 547,616; Niger, $28,178,180; Ondo, $52,255,534; Osun, $61,744,688; Rivers, $34,301,764; and Sokoto, $40,419,413.

Others are Yobe State, $31,111,004; Zamfara, $26,329,259 and the Federal Capital Territory, $37,671,245.

When contacted, most state governments declined to give their domestic debts, which, SATURDAY PUNCH gathered, were on the high side.

Some, however, explained their external debts, while others said that there was no cause for alarm over their high indebtedness.

In Lagos, the Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Adetokunbo Abiru, said the state was credit worthy.

He said, “Our financial environment combines credit worthiness with probity, accountability and transparency in all facets of our financial transaction.”

On Wednesday and Thursday, the Ogun State Finance Commissioner, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun, did not pick calls put to her phone. She also did not reply text messages sent to her.

But two weeks ago, she had told our correspondent that the financial position of the state would be made public through newspaper publications.

The Oyo State Government said it had not borrowed any fund since the inception of the current administration.

The state Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Zachaeus Adelabu, said that any recorded external debt might have been incurred by the previous administration.

Adelabu said, “Possibly the debt was incurred during the last administration, I cannot say for sure. But what I can tell you is that this administration has not borrowed anything.”

The Special Adviser to the Cross River State Governor on Debt Management, Mrs. Francisca Effiom, declined comments on the state’s debt profile.

It was, however, gathered that the state’s domestic debt was about N80bn.

It was learnt that about N23bn of the debt was incurred during the construction of the Tinapa Business and Leisure Resort under the administration of former Governor Donald Duke.

In Akwa Ibom State, SATURDAY PUNCH gathered that the state government had obtained N50bn loan from the capital market.

The Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Mr. Samuel Ikon, said the loan was approved following an explanation by the Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Bassey Albert, that it would be spent with probity.

He noted that provision was made in the budget for a loan of N65bn, but the executive asked for N50bn, which was approved.

In Rivers, though the state Commissioner for Finance, Peterside Chamberlain, could not say how much the state owed banks, he explained that the current administration had borrowed N30bn in October 2010, an amount that was paid off in September 2011.

Peterside added that another loan of N20bn was accessed in July 2011.

He said the loans were taken from Guaranty Trust Bank and Zenith Bank and noted that a substantial part of the loan from Zenith Bank had already been paid back.

The commissioner pointed out that the funds were used to finance the state’s ongoing electricity project, which would be completed by December 2012.

The Ekiti State Government had obtained a N20bn bond from the Capital Market.

But the Commissioner for Information in the state, Mr. Funminiyi Afuye, said the state government was not under any debt burden.

Afuye said, “As far as we know, Ekiti State is not suffering from any debt burden and this can be checked from the DMO where the debt profiles of all states and the Federal Government can be verified.”

In Osun State, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Chief Sunday Akere, said the state had a N25bn internal debt.

Akere said N18.5bn of the N25bn was owed by the ousted administration of Olagunsoye Oyinlola.

He said, “In the twilight of the Oyinlola government in 2010, the administration secured an N18.5bn loan from United Bank for Africa. A major chunk of the loan was to go into the construction of six world class stadiums.”

Akere said the state government, under Oyinlola, was paying a monthly interest of N615m on the N18.5bn, adding that after refinancing the loan, the “(Rauf) Aregbesola administration now pays a monthly interest of less than N100m.”

Efforts by SATURDAY PUNCH to reach the Bayelsa State Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Duate Iyadi, proved abortive as his telephone was switched off.

But Governor Seriake Dickson had on assumption of office, said he inherited liabilities of N207bn from the former Governor Timipre Sylva administration.

However, in March 2012 during his appearance before the Senate joint committee on National Planning, Finance, Appropriation and States and Local Government, the Chairman of the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission, Mr. Elias Mbam, stated that the state’s external debt stood at $107.532m.

Foolish man, just like somebody said earlier you have irreversible brain damage. Mr. okoko wawa man, development is not only tarring of few KM of roads within the urban centre. Anambra believes in connecting all the communities with asphalted roads, provision of portable water, provision of human capital. Anambra will continue to be ranked among developed states of Lagos, Rivers and Kano. Enugu state does not even come close of the above, it (Enugu state) can be ranked among Ebonyi, Taraba, Oshun, Gombe. etc

Today Anambra has the best road network traversing almost all the towns in the state. You cannot say the same for enugu state, once you step out from enugu urban you will meet rural and backward setting. A trip to Awgu and Amokwe all in enugu state showed how backward, timid, bushy enugu state remains.

I think enugu state govt need to stop deceiving the masses and start developing the communities. Anambra remains the city-state that is developed to its brim with three major cities of Awka, Onitsha and Nnewi, having highest number of commercial banks than all the SE states put together. Total number of banks at Nnewi alone surpasses the number banks in entire enugu state, that another way to measure development and not that your governor tarred some roads in the urban center. Anambra state has continued to attract world class investors that presently pumping billions of dollars in Anambra, the same cannot be said of Enugu state which has remained pauper state.

Enugu state has continued to witness stunted growth since its creation, without developing other towns like Udi and Nsukka, these town has remained the shadow of itself and enugu is working, what an irony grin . Enugu state was recent listed among the few financially dead states in Nigeria by the senate committee (link below), what does that tell you. Like someone pointed out over 60% of enugu state population lives in Onitsha and Nnewi (mostly petty traders and hustlers) for economic reasons which is the major factor in determining urban migration.

http://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/new-wage-16-states-risk-bankruptcy-says-report/100182/

Today the only Anambra people that still remaining in Enugu are few civil servants that are yet to get allocation at the new Ngozika Housing estate in Awka. Apart from that all others are all based in Anambra. Today population of Anambra is about twice the population of Enugu state, what does that tell you? It means that there are more people living and working in Anambra than in Enugu state. Enugu state needs to develop beyond enugu urban.

Today Anambra is the least indebted state in Nigeria, Anambra is the least poverty affected state in Nigeria (see link below), if these are not development I wonder if you have a human brain. Anambra has consistently ranked 3rd position in JAMB and university application in Nigeria, what is the position of Enugu state? Enugu was ranked about 20something. Now tell me, when will Enugu state come close to such rankings in all these parameters of development in Nigeria, maybe in the next 200years? Time will tell

Pls spare me your sermon for those who havent been to Anambra state before.

Poverty stricken? Probably you are a dunce. Except you are from Lagos or River which I know you are not, there is no other Nigerian state that is rich and more developed as Anambra. As for Awka, maybe you are talking of Awka of 10-15 years ago, Awka today is far more developed with modern hospitality edifices networks of roads traversing the streets and organized more than your backward, rotten, huge dirty hamlet you call your state capital. The roads you eddiots know about is the Onitsha-Awka dual expressway which is being reconstructed and remodeled as I write this piece. Obi1kenobi:

CBN, UNDP and NAPEP stats have the SW FAR behind the SE and SS. Yet, I'm somehow supposed to believe stats that has several Northern states above Anambra grin

Those stats are totally phony. Anyone who's travelled around knows there are several oddities and incongruities there.

Lest you forget the Nigeria Bureau Stats present Director General is a Yoruba man, so how on earth do you expect otherwise knowing fully well the nature of Yorubas more especially in sensitive matters like this.

It is on record by CBN, UNDP and even our own NAPEP that SE is the region with least poverty rate followed by SS and others maybe NC, SW, NE, NW as the case maybe.

And Anambra has consistently remained the least poverty state in Nigeria going by the great deal of enterprise/civil economic activities going on in the state, so how come states that does not do anything except civil service and funds from Federation acct out-beat it.

Its really sad that NBS will come down so low with such misleading and phony outrageous figures just to score some cheap economic point which does not translate to reality. Well he can publish all he likes, but its a disservice to his own people who are really suffering in the biting harsh economic poverty than he has presented here. Really really absurd.  grin grin

Politics / Kabiru Sokoto Gives SSS Clues On Sect’s Leaders by Ohaneze1: 9:44am On Feb 13, 2012
DETECTIVES have got “substantial” information from the re-arrested Christmas Day bombing suspect, Kabiru Abubakar Dikko Umar, who is popularly known as Kabiru Sokoto.

State Security Service (SSS) sources have spoken of “revealing call logs”, among other information.

Besides, Kabiru Sokoto is said to have admitted being a member of the Sura Committee - the highest advisory/ decision-making board of Boko Haram, the fundamentalist sect which has claimed responsibility for the bombings in some parts of the North.

He was arrested for the December 25 bombing at the St. Theresa’s Catholic Church, Madalla, Niger State in which 44 people died. Kabiru Sokoto escaped from police custody. He was rearrested at the weekend.

Also in custody are over 30 “key” members of the sect. They have been held since the arrest of the sect’s spokesman, Abu Qaqa.

But, contrary to a speculation that he may have been handed over to the military, Sokoto is still in SSS custody, according to a source.

The source, who pleaded not to be named because of the “sensitivity” of the matter, said last night: “The suspect knows the game is up and he has been cooperative with the panel of interrogators.

“We have retrieved Kabiru Sokoto’s call logs, which have provided substantial information on key co-ordinators of the sect. The call logs are many; we are screening them with the cooperation of the suspect. He is giving useful information on each name on the logs. There is no doubt we will go after these sect leaders.

“So far, he has opened up on the composition of the Sura Committee, which is the highest advisory/decision-making body of Boko Haram, headed by Imam Abubakar Shekau.

“The suspect bared it all on how they take decisions on when and where to strike. He said the Sura Committee has been responsible for the operation of the sect.”

Other areas of interrogation of Kabiru are: How Boko Haram sources its funds; its sponsors/backers; training grounds; and how he escaped from police custody.

Another source said: “Since the arrest of Qaqa, we have picked more than 30 key co-ordinators of Boko Haram for interrogation.

“One of the strange things we discovered is that contrary to their posturing, most of them are not well-versed in Quranic memorisation and recitation or deep knowledge of Quran. Some have smattering knowledge of Quran.

“Most of them also could not give cogent reasons for doing what they are doing. And they said the fear of arrest made them to cause more havoc.”

Responding to a question, the source added: “Some of the suspects said they do source arms and ammunition from police armoury. We will soon turn in the evidence to the appropriate authorities for probe.”

The trial of a Commissioner of Police, Zakari Biu, and five others resume today, it was learnt that some policemen on trial have confessed  on how Kabiru Sokoto escaped from their custody in Abaji.

A police source said: “They said when they got to Abaji, some youths overwhelmed the team, demanding the release of their Mallam whom they were surprised to see in handcuffs. This angry mob never knew that Kabiru Sokoto is a member of the Boko Haram sect.

“They claimed that the crowd was much, that if they had to shoot, many people will be killed. They said the youths seized the suspect from them, but they did not call for reinforcement from the police station to resist the mob.

“They admitted that it was a lapse to have allowed the mob to have its way instead of living up to their responsibility as law enforcement agents.

“But they could not justify why they had to bow to the mob when they ought to have used tear-gas canisters or shoot into the air to scare the youths.”

The Force Disciplinary Committee is expected to submit its report this week for consideration by the Police Service Commission.

The policemen risk dismissal for negligence and dereliction of duty.

Section 30 of Part 1 of the Third Schedule to the 1999 Constitution says “the Police Service Commission shall have power to (a) appoint persons to offices (other than the Office of the Inspector-General of Police) in the Nigeria Police Force; and (b) dismiss and exercise disciplinary control over persons holding any office referred to in sub-paragraph (a) of this paragraph.”

The Christmas Day bombing at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church killed 44 people.

But barely 48 hours in custody, Sokoto escaped in Abaji.

The incident led to the querying and retirement of the former Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Hafiz Ringim.

Because the man from Rivers or Bayelsa may not want the repetition of what is happening in the present Nigeria as regards their resources to continued in the new found re-union.

Nigeria government like fire-bridge approach, I trust America will be doing now if they found out that some parts of their territory will be claimed by the ocean. Or is this a NL gimmick has somebody confirmed the source of this news?

With revelation below FG and NASS should swing into action to avert this disaster by providing alternative land allocation elsewhere. Because what it means is that by 2050 Yoruba land would have been non-existent.

"The effects of sea-level rise will be most “dramatic” in Nigeria's economic capital Lagos which is just five metres above sea level, with some parts of the city lying below sea-level, Cramer said.

The flooding is likely be most severe in Lagos because of its position at the southern end of the Gulf of Guinea where stronger tropical storms from the South Atlantic create storm surges up to three metres high, Cramer said. He estimates that most of the 15 million inhabitants of Lagos will be displaced."

Politics / Arewa Consultative Forum Disowns Boko Haram, Affirms One Nigeria by Ohaneze1: 5:36pm On Jan 14, 2012
The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) on Wednesday called on Nigerians to disregard the ultimatum and counter ultimatum by “divisive elements of the society” given to some Nigerians to leave for their states or regions.

Following an emergency meeting the ACF restated its commitment to a united Nigeria which is ”socially diverse,” and condemned any violence, be it ethno-religious or otherwise.

Those who give any such ultimatum, it said in a statement, are on their own.

“Specifically, the Boko Haram sect does not represent Muslims in the North, let alone the people of the North nor does it speak for Muslims in Nigeria, just as those extremists elements in Niger Delta do not speak for the good people of the Niger Delta region,” the statement said, adding that they speak only for themselves.

The ACF, in what seemed to be a jibe at President Goodluck Jonathan, drew the attention of Nigerian leaders-be they political or religious-to beware of making unguarded statements claiming knowledge of supporters of evil doers without naming them. “Such statements should have no place in delicate situations such as we have in our country today,” it noted.

Said Mr. Jonathan said recently, “Boko Haram is everywhere, in the executive arm of government, in the legislative arm of government and even in the judiciary. Some are also in the armed forces, the police and other security agencies. Some continue to dip their hands and eat with you and you won't even know the person who will point a gun at you or plant a bomb behind your house."

The Forum commended Nigerians of both faiths who are already working together to narrow the differences among themselves and are creating interreligious harmony, such as noticed in Niger, Kano and Kaduna states and the FCT, where Muslims and Christians took turns to protect one another while observing their religious rites.

Politics / Re: Obi Achievement In Anambra State With Pictures by Ohaneze1: 12:51pm On Dec 14, 2011
Ejiné:

I really, really hate to burst your lovely rose-colored bubble, sir; but Enugu, Anambra and Ebonyi are currently on the same spectrum with GDP per capita of $1600+ while Imo and Abia are the macro revenue states in the South East with GDP per capita of $3700+
So if there's ever going to be any special acquiring, it would most likely be done by the two latter mentioned states.
However, between Enugu and Anambra, it can be said that Enugu does have a reasonable economic superiority over Anambra, as it has a planned capital city (unlike Anambra), a high ranking federal university and teaching hospital (unlike Anambra), and a healthier and faster growing economy (again, unlike Anambra), so that should be enough to say.
One possible factor that could explain the current economic underperformance of Anambra would be the poor taxing system. Anambra is blessed with so much human resources at her disposal, that could easily make her a superpower, however these potentials are barely tapped into by the current governor, who happens to have a personal vendetta against Anambra's 'hidden diamond', Nnewi. We hope a more responsible technocratic governor would come soonest to position Anambra as the number 1 it should rightfully be.

Sorry madam for choking you, Enugu can be classified alongside Ebonyi, Ekiti, Taraba etc, the record are there for everybody to see. On the hand Anambra can be classified along side Lagos, Rivers, kano. Your argument is baseless and lacks facts. Anambra state is the least indebted state in Nigeria, it is the only state in Nigeria with lowest poverty rate. Anambra has state of the art Federal Teaching Hospital at Nnewi with its Federal University in Awka Nnamdi Azikiwe University). The Nsukka university in enugu state is a mere past glory, because the last I checked it is already in ruins.

At present Anambra is the fore-most state in the SE with all the major infrastructural development in areas of water transport, IPP, Oil and Gas Refinery, International Cargo Airport (under-construction) that can sustain the entire SE and beyond. Enugu state is a failed state because it has failed in all indices of development; does enugu state start and ends with enugu urban? Have you ever been to all the adjoining towns and communities in enugwu, that will give you an idea of how backward enugu it? If yes then you should hide your face in shame. Enugu was recently confirmed and declared bankrupt and dead financial by the senate committee.
