A security expert has explained why Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has so far not been allowed to attend any of the national security meetings President Buhari has had with Service Chiefs since he assumed power. On June 2nd and yesterday June 10th, President Buhari met with the Service Chiefs without Osinbajo and this has led to some media houses reporting that the Vice President was "locked out" from the Defence House, venue of the meetings. A security expert explains why the pastor and lawyer can't be allowed into such meetings for now. The security expert explaned that Vice President Osinbajo is not a trained military officer and so it will take the military some time before sensitive intelligence can be shared in his presence. He also made reference to the Vice President's affiliation to Tinubu. "I am sure he would have been invited if he had security background. Being a Professor of Law is fine, but in terms of intelligence and access to security information, you are nowhere near the rank of Colonel or equivalent in the Nigeria Military. Look, I have watched some footages that if the VP gets to see, he would lose appetite for days. Now, we have someone who has been in luxury virtually all his life, attaining the position of VP and some people are clamouring for his presence in highly sensitive talks. The truth is that the military hierarchy would not even feel comfortable saying some things in his presence. I can tell you that they respect Prof. Osinbajo as VP but they cannot trust him with information yet. You cannot compare him to Buhari who served in many military roles, chased away a militia that was threatening Nigeria security, overthrew a military government, became Head of State, fought corruption and went ahead to instill discipline among a stubborn citizenry. The VP would have to go through what is called ‘Stimulation’. This is a process where he is lectured on terms, dealings, operations etc. of the military. His inner strength, strong heart and ability to keep things to himself will first be put to test before he gets access to some classified materials and information. We must understand the fact that Osinbajo was a candidate promoted by Bola Tinubu (ex-Lagos Governor), he was not handpicked by Buhari. If the President had picked a vice, it is likely that such individual may get the access Osinbajo isn’t getting now. Everyone knows the VP has been loyal to Tinubu for decades and he cannot swear that he would not divulge details of these security meetings to his political godfather. So he has to earn it. Tinubu may have used his influence to put him in this position but he must draw a line between blind loyalty and national duty.” Culled from lindaikeji Source: http://lindaikeji..co.uk/2015/06/security-expert-explains-why-osinbajo.html?m=1 |

The crisis between the embattled members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities [ASUU], Adekunle Ajasin University [AAUA], Ondo state and their management is now deepened as new lecturers have been employment to replace the striking lecturers. Recall that when DailyPost visited the campus last Monday, some old lecturers were seen in various lecture rooms teaching , thinking the AAUA authorities and the striking workers have agreed to end the five months old strike. However, with a statement later issued by the AAUA ASUU’s Chairman, Dr. Meruyi Mekusi, insisting that they will not call off the strike until their national body orders them to do so might have forced the management to recruit new lecturers. Relatively, the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Femi Mimiko, has charged the newly recruited lecturers to key into the work ethics of the Institution and always observe the values of the teaching profession. Prof. Mimiko, who also enjoined the academics to be loyal to the University at all times, gave the charge on Monday last week at the Opening Ceremony of a two-day orientation programme organized by the Institution for the new academics. The VC said, “Our expectations from you on the job are to be in constant search for knowledge and devise the innovative way of dissemination. There must not be mention of you in anything that is not worthy. Be role models to students and enhance their moral standard. You must be like counselors to them at all times. Be shapers of opinions. Engage in constructive criticism of society. Be solution generators. Be focused and play a big role in national development. “AAUA is a public trust that is dedicated to building leaders. You must, therefore, be loyal to the system. We expect you to give to this University an undiluted loyalty. We just launched AAUA ALWAYS as a new campaign. The message is that you must think about this University at all times.” While the VC commended them for being found worthy of employment after rigorous interviews, he said that the orientation became necessary to expose them to AAUA culture. He said, “This induction is to expose you to our own peculiar form of pedagogy that we want you to imbibe and to continue to sustain.” The VC was one of the four resource persons at the orientation programme and he spoke on “Who is an Academic?” He said the new intakes were supposed to teach, engage in research and community service. Prof. Mimiko urged those among them who were yet to earn Ph. D. to pursue it vigorously, saying, “For us, Ph. D. is a must have. Those who are yet to possess the Ph. D. should know that the most important thing that we will ask when you get here is, ‘How far you are going in the pursuit of knowledge, leading to the award of the Ph. D?” He promised that the University would give them support to undertake Ph.D. Programme in any University of their choice. Other speakers were the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Prof. Rotimi Ajayi, who spoke on “Academic Profession in the 21st Century”; Prof. Francis Oyebade, who examined “AAUA Academic Culture”; and Prof. Niyi Akinnaso, who spoke on “21st Century Teaching”. The Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko [AAUA] in Ondo State, yesterday partially commenced lectures as majority of the students have resumed for their second semester. Our correspondent who visited the campus has reported that some departments have commenced teaching already. It was learnt that the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Femi Mimiko personally monitored the classes to ensure that the lecturers comply with the federal government order.. Some of the lecturers might have pulled out of the strike following a threat by the management that failure to resume may lead to termination of appointment. Lectures held at History, Education and Mass Communication Department. Already, the Management, through its registrar, R.O Olotu on Sunday sent a reminder to the students that, it was committed to reopening the institution for lectures. A 400 Level student of History, Oladimeji Ogunwale who spoke to DailyPost said, “we have resumed and I received a lecture this morning. I think other Departments are also going on with their lectures.” Also, a 200 level student of Mass Communication Department, Omoyemi Akinmolayan, said, “I think our Vice- Chancellor has compassion on us and that was why he asked us to resume; we have stayed too long at home. It is a very good development. I know that lectures will continue without interruption” When asked if the lecturers who taught them were newly employed he said, said “there are no new lecturers in my department for now. We still have the old ones, who were in the class this morning. It is good that we have resumed. As a final year student, I am very happy despite that ASUU has really wasted our time” The AAUA ASUU Chairman, Dr. Busuyi Mekusi could not be reached as his mobile phone was switched off as at press time.
