If Dangote wants to pull out N1trn from NGX he will fail woefully but if he decides to pull it out on NYSE he will succeed. Lack of liquidity doesn't mean the asset is not worth the market price.

There are offices in fund management firms that handle purchases/sales simply because they want to take position without moving price too much. Your argument is right and wrong at the same time. It is right because the price will move temporarily but it is wrong because the price movement will be temporary.

P.S. Did you buy some Access bank today?
I remember when you were saying the same for ETI, since am on access +1 cool

These are BEER PARLOUR arguments that have NO business in a thread like this.

Gaddafi's Libya had a population of less than 3 Million at the start of his reign (over 95% of Nigerian states have more than that).

At the end of his reign, the population was about 6 Million (Nearly 50% or around 17 states have more people than that).

Yet Libya has MORE oil than Nigeria.

The UAE has 10.88 Million people with 300% of Nigeria's oil reserves.
UAE is using 3X the oil resources of Nigeria to take care of 5% of the population of Nigeria.

Plus, these countries are both DICTATORSHIPS with Leaders who CANNOT be challenged.

They've had leaders who can pursue their VISIONS single-mindedly and take as long as NECESSARY to execute it.

They did NOT have to deal with a CHAIN of politicians with their own unique and DIVERGING solutions to the problems of their countries.

ONE person with UNQUESTIONABLE authority given enough time and RESOURCES can achieve WONDERFUL things.

UNIFORMITY of purpose and CONTINUITY of execution is not a joke.

Nigeria on the other hand have had to DEAL with DIFFERENT people in leadership with their own blend of leadership.
With people who ABANDON what the previous leader started to start their OWN thing so they can be KNOWN for that.

Point is:

There is ZERO parallel between Nigeria and those countries you mentioned.

They are both RICHER than Nigeria in terms of oil and far SMALLER in terms of population.

Understanding why their situation is/was different (or BETTER) is common sense.
It's interesting how we just find excuses for inefficiency. So because we have a huge population is the reason we cannot increase our production. It is the reason we cannot manage what we are producing and our resources effectively. One would think our population should be an advantage, the Chinese are more populous than us but again you would argue that their system is different and call it a wrong comparison as well. Let's keep praising ourselves indulging in our mediocrity

We want to pay Low taxes and yet compare ourselves to countries with some of the highest taxes in the world.

With regards to the "they should die" comment, nothing is guaranteed in this world oh, even life.
Libya pay the lowest taxes during the time of Gaddafi yet education was free, free housing, plus lots of other freebies. I use Libya intentionally because they are oil producing country like us. UAE is another, the taxes is low and see their growth.

We seem to excuse govt inefficiency with low taxes as if that is the problem. What has the resources in their hands been used for, even the so called low taxes they've collected, how have they used it for the benefit of the populace. How then do you have the moral to tax more when the one entrusted to you have been used so badly!

Does the "common man" feel he has any responsibility in life? It's the government's job to put in place policies and infrastructure to help the economy grow. It's the "common man's" job to take advantage of those policies and become prosperous.

This idea that government owes you a comfortable life has held Nigeria back for decades and it needs to change.
The highlighted is what gives comfortable life. You are a tax payer, the resources of the country is owned by you and I, those resources should serve you and I.

There are people who understands the system and use it to be prosperous but there are also people who don't have that privilege but that does not mean they should not have access to basic things that make them comfortable such as good education, security, water and transportation. How much of that is available to the population without strings attached.

Very well said General.

However, it is always good to realize that many calling for a regime change cannot even articulate reasons enough to justify their position. Shamefully too, many jostling for positions are not even versed enough about the economic strides the government they want to succeed have taken thus far and hence cannot even justify their own voodoo imaginary economic postulations.
I am yet to see or hear a clear cut economic agenda of any of them.
Did you see clear cut economic agenda of the present govt? What were their focal points before they came to power and how much of that has been achieved. Over a decade ago we had the opportunity to remove subsidy when FX was still relatively stable it was this same govt that opposed it. These ones did not just remove subsidy they also devalued all in one blow without making any provisions to cushion the effect.

Year on year budget performance has been very low to the extent that there is now 3 year budget items running concurrently. What is the essence of removing subsidy, devaluing the naira yet we keep borrowing with noting to show for it apart from going to UK to spend so much from the little we have. Then they came back with an agreement that enriches UK manufacturing company but further increases our debt.

It's just sad that the so called opposition is no longer in existence because they are all fighting for their personal interest and not willing to let go their ego for the greater good.

Whr is oando results. I am interested in the q1 results

Based on street sense. I need to add to my oando holdings. Seplat and aradel can't be on this all time high and onado has remained at one spot
Sugar has turned the corner so it is only oando that is remaining to do same in my portfolio
My thought has well that made me load more Oando but the way Bro Wale plays the game is usually a concern. If it gets to 40 may load more. I am looking forward to Oando and JP Q2 results not even Q1

Almost 100% for this yr in 4 months.
Thr only campaign achievement is getting ready
Yes indeed even though the big growth is in devaluation, in reality we are just about doubling the market cap from what it was in 2022 in USD terms. What will have happened if there was a different govt, i feel market CAP could have grown much better but i guess we won't know for sure until we try another govt this coming election(if wish could only come true)

You may be right sir, but I don't agree. Valuations are based on future earnings and prospects. It's a good thing that the books of all the banks are being cleaned up by a strong regulator, the CBN. In my opinion, Wema Bank seems the most organic and is being rewarded more than others. Purely my opinion. Those who understand the game will buy from those who do not. Dare to sell at CP and see if you won't find a buyer. So who is right, the one selling or the one buying? Only the future can answer that question.
I didn't say however it won't drop but only in the short term if ever it does because of those selling on this above notion creating a selling pressure. Which by the way is good for those who see prospects and are ready to buy from those who do not.

Sometimes, people forget the 100 good things you did but remember and crucify the one thing you didn't do only for the subject to continue on to do good. Apply that to UBA and Access, NB, Nestle, MTN, Guinness, and so many others. Look to the future, it's so bright you may need a sunshade. cool
No sunshade required, we are both saying the result is not bad so i don't think we disagree on that. I am also not saying it is a bad thing that CBN is mandating the banks to clean up, i am saying its not of good faith for access to claim they will pay knowing that CBN will not allow it. UBA didn't make declaration that they will pay dividend so i wasn't too surprised when they didn't. For access however, it was not about whether they will pay, it was how much they will pay. Anyway access remains my biggest holdings in banking sector just annoying how they play the game. It is well.

No further comments. Purely on earnings…after the noise, each should find its value. Just Common Sense.
With 3.69 EPS of access still shows that ACCESS is the cheapest among the top tier banks, but am not sure its management are ready to manage the bank better. I also hate the game they played by claiming they will pay dividend when they must have known that it is not going to happen. It is one thing to be silent on dividend payment its another thing to clearly state intention to pay. Non-payment of dividend cannot move access to 73. Number 1 reason people invest in banks is for dividends, share price growth is secondary.
