Climate change disaster is taking over the world. Lives and properties are destroyed. Countries of the world are formulating and implementing climate change policies to avert this obvious danger. I'm of the opinion that Buhari Administration should prioritize the climate sector. God bless Nigeria!

MAY is a critical month to Nigeria. Politically,
Nigerians are
turning up in anticipation for change,
Climatically, Buhari will be
squaring up delegates for the United Nations
climate change
negotiations in Bonn.

The Genesis of climate change can be traced to
Genesis 7 vs 1-24, it
recorded the first incessant increase in rainfall
(40days and
40nights) and the earth was destroyed with
floods. Sadly, flooding is
still lingering the world over. In 2012, floods
flooded over 21states
of our federation leading to displacements of
thousands of Nigerians,
destructions of homes, farm lands and
infrastructures. This global
threat has increased my blood pressure hereby
triggering me to be a
voice in the ongoing global #CallForClimate
movement.

What is climate change? It is a change in
weather condition for a
particular location over time or a continuing
change of the earth's
climate. Its impact can be negative or positive or
a combination.
According to intergovernmental panel on climate
change (IPCC), Nigeria
temperature will rise between 14°c to 5.8°c by
2100, which will have a
negative effect on the socio- economic wellbeing
of our beloved
country in the following ways:
• Flooding in the coastal areas (Lagos, Warri,
Port Harcourt and Calabar)
• High temperature in Northern Nigeria will
cause increase in health
issues such as Meningitis, Cataracts, Malaria and
Yellow Fever.
• Frequent drought and lesser rains in Northern
Nigeria will shorten
the growing season hereby causing low
agricultural produce.
• Desertification will increase and more drought
which encourage
locusts and white flies, which in turn will affect
food and water
supply.
• Wildlife will also be affected with possible
effect on the entire food chain.
It is evident that Nigeria, like most parts of the
world, is
experiencing the basis features of climate
change.

Is there a solution? Yes, there is. Quite frankly,
the natural
"causes" of climate change cannot be stopped,
but the "effects" can be
drastically reduced by human (Nigerians).

Here are my candid recommendations to Buhari Led Administration on averting future climate change disasters:
• Towards a low-carbon economy(LCE), policies should be tailored to clean and environmentally friendly technologies in both energy supply and consumption.
• Formulation and implementation of consistent and holistic policies that will drive agricultural sector in order to stamp the effects of climate change on Nigerians
• Education, information and training of farmers to adapt to climate change by improving their farming practice.
• Construction of more Dams and creation of more lakes to act as reservoir during excessive flooding
• Strengthen institutions on controlling waste.

Conclusively, climate change is a terrible problem, and it absolutely needs to be solved - Bill Gate. In this vein, I urge and challenge the Buhari Led Administration to look deep down into my recommendations and make it a priority because the sole aim of his historic victory is for protection of lives and properties.
