US Congressman Pushes ‘Crusade Act,’ Says Religious Immigrants Must Reject Sharia Law

A United States Congressman, Barry Moore, has stated that Sharia law promotes the persecution of religious minorities, suppresses women’s rights, and places religious law above constitutional authority.
Moore made the remarks in a post published on his X handle while announcing the introduction of a proposed legislation known as the “CRUSADE Act.”
According to the Republican lawmaker, immigrants seeking entry into the United States as religious workers should be required to reject Sharia law and pledge allegiance to the US Constitution.
"Sharia law justifies the persecution of religious minorities, restrictions on women, and the elevation of religious law above all.
"This is why, I introduced the CRUSADE Act.
"Immigrants entering our nation as religious workers should disavow sharia and uphold the Constitution.”
The details of the proposed CRUSADE Act, including whether it has formally been introduced before the US Congress, were not immediately clear as of press time.
Sharia law, derived from Islamic religious principles, is practised in varying forms across several Muslim-majority countries and communities worldwide.

U.S. Identifies West Africa As Key Terror Battleground In New Counterterrorism Strategy

The administration of United States President, Donald Trump has identified the wider West African region as critical fronts in the global fight against terrorism, warning that extremist groups are increasingly using Africa as a base for operations.
The position is contained in the newly released 2026 United States Counterterrorism Strategy document, which described parts of Africa as areas where “a resurgent terror threat is the reality.”
“Subsequently, the surviving remnants of the world’s most dangerous terrorist group of the modern age were forced to relocate to Africa and Central Asia, in turn exploiting the ungoverned spaces there,” the document said.
The document specifically identified “West Africa, the Sahel region, the Lake Chad Basin, Mozambique, Sudan, and of course Somalia” as areas facing growing extremist threats.
Nigeria, which shares the Lake Chad Basin with neighbouring countries, has battled insurgencies linked to Boko Haram and ISWAP for more than a decade.
The Trump administration said the resurgence of extremist groups in Africa worsened “especially during the years of failed counterterrorism policies under President Joe Biden.”
The strategy stated that Washington now has “two clear goals” in Africa.
“The first is to guarantee that none of the Jihadi groups can build a base of operations that allows them to plot and execute attacks against the United States and American interests around the world,” the document said.
It added: “The second is to protect Christians, who have been slaughtered at the hands of these Jihadi groups.”
In one of the most striking references to Nigeria, the strategy document noted that Trump had already taken direct action over attacks on Christians in the country.
“With the decisive action President Trump recently took in Nigeria, he made it clear that the slaughter of Christians will not go unchecked,” the document stated.
The strategy also quoted Trump as saying on Christmas Day in 2025: “I have previously warned these Terrorists that if they did not stop the slaughtering of Christians, there would be hell to pay, and tonight, there was.”
The Trump administration further stated that the United States would maintain “a light military footprint” in Africa while strengthening cooperation with governments battling insurgencies.
“We will continue to work together with governments threatened by groups like ISIS and al Qaeda affiliates,” the strategy added.
In December 2025, the U.S. military carried out coordinated airstrikes in northwest Nigeria against Islamic State militants, with the Nigerian government confirming it had approved and participated in the operation.
The strikes, conducted on December 25–26 in Sokoto State, were aimed at degrading ISIS-linked groups and were described as a joint U.S.–Nigeria security effort.

President Donald Trump’s administration has accused European nations of failing to confront Islamism and allowing extremist threats to grow across the continent through weak border policies and inadequate counterterrorism measures.
The criticism is contained in the newly released 2026 United States Counterterrorism Strategy document, which described Europe as both a “terror target” and an “incubator of terror threats.”
“The nations of Europe remain our preeminent and long-term counterterrorism partners. The world is safer when Europe is strong, but Europe is greatly threatened and is both a terror target and an incubator of terror threats,” the document said.
The strategy claimed that extremist organisations and hostile actors had exploited Europe’s security vulnerabilities.
“Terrorists often seek to attack European nations to undermine their democratic institutions and their ties to the United States,” the document stated.
It further alleged that “al Qaeda, ISIS, cartels, and state actors” had “freely exploited Europe’s weak borders and diminished CT resources to turn Europe into a permissive operating environment for plotting against Europeans and Americans.”
The Trump strategy argued that Europe had failed to address the ideological roots of extremism.
“Europe still has an opportunity to change its individual and collective counterterrorism destiny if it recognizes the actual threat and takes action now,” the document stated.
It added that Europe could only become “strong again” if it “rediscovers traditional principles of freedom of speech, has honest conversations about Islamism, devotes sufficient resources to mitigate terrorism and cartel threats within its nations, and then actively shares its threat intelligence globally.”
The strategy also directly linked migration policies to terrorism, declaring that “Unfettered mass migration has been the transmission belt for terrorists.”
According to the document, “well-organized hostile groups exploit open borders and related globalist ideals.”
The administration further warned that Europe’s current trajectory could worsen insecurity across the continent.
“The more these alien cultures grow, and the longer current European policies persist, the more terrorism is guaranteed,” the document stated.
It added that Europe “must significantly increase its CT efforts immediately.”
The document concluded with a warning that “Europe must act now and halt its willful decline.”

'73 Mentions Of Sharia, 28 Of Islam, None For Christianity' – Lawyer Ejimakor Questions Nigerian Constitution Over Claims Of Being Secular

Human rights lawyer, Aloy Ejimakor, has questioned the description of Nigeria’s Constitution as secular, arguing that the document contains multiple references to Sharia and Islam while making no mention of Christianity.
Ejimakor made the assertion in a statement shared on X on Tuesday, May 12, 2026 , where he raised concerns about what he described as an imbalance in the constitutional recognition of religions in Nigeria.
“Do you know that you’ve been lied to that the Nigerian Constitution is a secular Constitution,” he wrote.
“Well, it’s not, because it contains 73 mentions of SHARIA, 28 mentions of Islam & 10 mentions of Muslim but ZERO mention of CHRISTIAN. Is this not enough to want a separate State? Let’s talk about it, without fear or favour,” he added.
Nigeria officially operates under the 1999 Constitution, which prohibits the adoption of any religion as a state religion. Section 10 of the Constitution states that “The Government of the Federation or of a State shall not adopt any religion as State Religion.”
However, the Constitution also provides for the establishment of Sharia Courts of Appeal in states that require them, particularly in matters relating to Islamic personal law. These constitutional provisions have remained a subject of legal and political debate over the years.
Ejimakor argued that the repeated constitutional references to Sharia and Islamic legal institutions contradict the widespread description of Nigeria as a secular State.
His reference to a “separate State” has also drawn attention amid longstanding national conversations surrounding religion, constitutional arrangements and regional autonomy in parts of the country.
The debate over secularism in Nigeria has persisted for decades, especially in relation to the implementation of Sharia law in several northern states and concerns raised by Christian groups over perceived religious imbalance in governance and constitutional structures.
His comments also come amid allegations of killings targeted at Christians in the country.
Earlier in April, SaharaReporters reported that the United States lawmaker, Mark Harris, called on the U.S. Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, to impose sanctions on the Nigerian government over what he described as escalating violence against Christians.
In a letter dated Thursday, April 2, 2026, Harris expressed concern over “the escalating persecution of Christians in both Nigeria and Syria,” stating that the situation “demands immediate attention from the United States.”
“The escalating persecution of Christians in both Nigeria and Syria demands immediate attention from the United States. Attacks on the Church are not merely political disturbances or unfortunate byproducts of instability."
"They are assaults on human dignity, religious liberty, and the most basic God-given rights that every country has a duty to protect,” the lawmaker wrote.
Harris urged the U.S. State Department to ensure that both Nigeria and Syria take “decisive action to protect innocent Christians,” adding that Christian communities in the affected regions “continue to be terrorized, displaced, and killed for their faith.”
While commending previous U.S. actions, the congressman noted, “When Christians are targeted for worshiping, gathering, and living openly in their faith, the United States should speak with moral clarity and act with resolve—and under President Trump’s and your leadership, we have.”
He further praised efforts including “redesignating Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern and taking decisive military action against the radical Islamic terrorist groups responsible for targeting vulnerable Christian communities.”
However, Harris said recent developments remain troubling. “At the same time, the recent reports and videos coming out of both Syria and Nigeria are deeply disturbing,” he stated.
Referencing violence in Nigeria, he wrote, “In Nigeria, reports indicate that at least 30 people were killed in a Palm Sunday massacre in Plateau State, which is yet another horrifying reminder that Christians in parts of Nigeria continue to face deadly violence with far too little protection or accountability from the Nigerian government.”
Describing the incidents as part of a wider trend, Harris added, “The fact is, these are not isolated incidents. They are part of a broader and growing pattern of anti-Christian violence plaguing both countries at the hands of Islamic militants, while both governments continue to either ignore or downplay the severity of these attacks, and Christians continue to pay the price.”
