This one hits home because this is a problem a lot of tenants don't think about until it happens to them.

You pay the caution fee, take care of the apartment, then when it’s time to leave, suddenly there’s a disagreement about the refund.

I’m currently working with ShieldDeposit, a platform built to make deposit transactions safer and give both sides a clearer process from the beginning.

Honestly, we need more conversations like this because people shouldn’t have to learn about deposit protection only after losing money.

Has anyone here had a landlord or agent refuse to return a caution fee? What happened?

This is why people need to stop looking at a caution fee as just another payment. What matters is knowing what it covers and what happens when there's a disagreement. Many of these issues only come up when the tenant is already trying to get their money back.
