Most of you know how much of a problem 'AM' is to me.

Therefore in the next 5 minutes or thereabout, we will receive a short lecture on the difference between 'I'm' and 'Am', their application and implications when wrongly used.

On y va...

Basically, an English sentence is made up of subject, verb and predicate or object as the case may be.

Narrow it down to Subject being the NOUN or PRONOUN

Verb being the action carried out or state of being of the Subject.

Predicate/Object is not much of our problem, hence I'll pass.

The Verb 'BE'

The verb 'BE' can function as an expressive verb describing the state of BEING of a body (Noun, Pronoun, Subject). For example:

- We ARE humans.

Here, 'are' functions as the main verb telling us what/who 'We' are (humans).

It can also function as an auxiliary verb i.e a helping verb to main verbs in expressing actions. For example:

- Pamela IS eating.

The verb 'is' above helps express the main action (eating) carried out by the subject, Pamela.

PRONOUNS

Pronouns are used instead of nouns, the English language has the following pronouns.

I, YOU, HE, SHE, IT, WE, THEY.

VERB CONJUGATION

In grammar, this is simply putting a verb in sync with the appropriate pronoun. We will conjugate BE and RUN for avoidance of doubt.

YOU ARE
HE/SHE/IT IS
WE ARE
THEY ARE

RUN

I RUN
YOU RUN
HE/SHE/IT RUNS
WE RUN
THEY RUN

I'M

This is a contracted form of I AM. It is so because of the presence of two vowels, 'I' and 'A' (in AM), for ease of pronunciation, the 'A' is chalked off and an apostrophe is introduced. Instead of going long to say I AM, we just rock I'M.

It consists of a subject (I) and the verb (AM).

It sounds same as 'AM' in pronunciation but doesn't mean the same as it grammar wise.

Any idea coming after 'I'M' makes sense. E.G

I'm Ugandan.

Expanded, it is, I AM UGANDAN. SUBJECT VERB PREDICATE.

AM

This is only the conjugated form of the verb BE and should not be used alone without a subject/noun/pronoun as it would make a dunce of you to your readers. E.G

AM happy to be in this group
AM a caterer
AM a goat ��

You have succeeded in chopping off the pronoun 'I' for reasons best known to your ancestors, rendering the sentence grammatically bland and useless.

Let's see it from this prism. Imagine you wanting to tell your boyfriend he is handsome. What would you say?

- Hey Charles, YOU ARE handsome today.

That's is the proper form. Now imagine you type this:

- Hey Charles, ARE handsome today.

Are your village folk not after your sense like this?

Without the pronoun 'You', the sentence is paralysed grammatically.

So starting off with '...are' and blazing on is a blatant rape on grammar.

Same goes with starting a sentence with 'am' without the pronoun 'I'.

You either use 'I AM' or 'I'M'. There's nothing like 'AM' standing alone.

Hopefully, when next we see articles here, our minds will be free from abuse. There'll be no blunders and the AMs will turn to I'Ms.

Finally, I know many won't read this, even those that do won't allow the hand of God in their lives.

We will still witness more AMs.
