For now, Abba K. Yusuf remains Kano PDP governorship candidate – INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, on Monday said as far the commission is concerned, the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has a governorship candidate in Kano State.

A Federal High Court sitting in Kano earlier today ruled that the PDP did not conduct primaries in Kano, and therefore the candidature of Abba Yusuf could not stand.

The judge therefore directed the PDP to conduct fresh primaries within two weeks.

Counsel to the plaintiff, Kabiru Usman, said the PDP would have to provide another governorship candidate before the coming polls.

In his remarks, PDP Counsel, Bashir Yusuf, said the verdict does not affect Abba Kabir as a candidate but the PDP as a party.
A PDP gubernatorial aspirant, Ali Amin-little, had approached the court, challenging the process that led to the emergence of Mr Yusuf as PDP gubernatorial candidate in Kano.

But in a telephone interview with DAILY NIGERIAN, Festus Okoye, INEC national commissioner and chairman Information and Voter Education Committee said the commission was yet to be served any court order.

He argued that even after receiving the order, the commission’s legal officers would have to study the order carefully before taking any decision.

“We are yet to be served this order you are talking about. INEC can not just take a decision based on hearsay.

“Even after we are served the said order, the commission’s lawyers will have to study it carefully, establish issues of competence of the court, study the order and arrive at a conclusion as to whether the party has candidate or not.

“But for now, the status quo remains,” he added.

Can someone tell this guy there's something called "Arbitrariness of Language". In other words, if a group of people agreed to start referring/calling a stone, "Brubru"... then it stands. With that, the word 'stone' can easily go into oblivion and everyone knows that hard thing as 'blublu'.

To explain this vividly, the word 'stone' means 'okuta' in Yoruba language, 'nkume' in Igbo, and 'dutse' in Hausa. The adoption of such different names is purely based on agreement among the individual ethnic groups.

The word/name "Jesus" can be likened to the above. That's why Yorubas pray with the word "Jesu Kristi" and those with faith in it get results... same with other tribes. Remember, the Bible says "Again I say unto you, that if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven (Matthew 18:19 KJV)".

Therefore, the word "Jesus" may be a product of agreement and I don't have any problem using it for the purpose it's meant for. Freeze lacks the locus standi to denigrate or belittle the name in question because of the forces that gave it the recognition it's enjoying today and forever.

PDP has no shame...after initiating projects for 16 good years without anything to show...it took buhari just 3 and half years to complete and commission those projects...despite that they av received their 20% pay back from the project.......but some useless slowpoke's without shame still av the gut to be shouting we ar the ones that initiate the project.......
