President Muhammadu Buhari will be in South Africa on Thursday to participate in the Forum on China/Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) taking place in Johannesburg, December 4-5, 2015.

President Buhari will follow up his meeting with the Chinese leader Xi Jinping which took place on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly meeting in November in New York.

Of particular interest is the coastal railway project stretching for 1402 kilometers linking Lagos in the West with Calabar in the East; a project that is expected to be financed with 12 billion U.S Dollars Chinese loan and which will create about 200,000 jobs.

Another rail project that will be up for renegotiation is the $8.3bn Lagos-Kano standard gauge modernization project, of which only a segment, Kaduna-Abuja has reached completion stage.

President Buhari is also expected to discuss ways of removing all obstacles in the way of the 3,050 MW Mambila Power Station, considered a strategic project which was conceived in 1982 but has not taken off.

The Chinese President had informed President Buhari of the willingness of his country to finance the whole project through a special loan agreement.

The President, who will be accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyema; Minister of Transportation, Chubuike Amaechi; and theMinister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Okechukwu Enelamah, will return to Abuja on Saturday, December 5.

Queen Elizabeth was given an official farewell by a guard of honour as she departed Malta at the end of a two-day state visit on occasion of CHOGM 2015.

The monarch departed after a full two-day programme, where she attended the official opening and hosted various events in her capacity as head of the Commonwealth.

“Since my first experience of Malta in 1949 as a young woman, I have seen this country evolve into a strong nation which plays an important role on the world stage. When Prince Philip and I returned in November 2007 at the time of our Diamond Wedding Anniversary, we could not help but be impressed by the progress and the sense of optimism.”

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of 30 new federal high court judges across Nigeria.

According to a press statement by Soji Oye, Acting Director of Information of the Nigeria Judicial Council, President Buhari endorsed the recommendation o of the NJC in appointing the judges. The new judges will be sworn in at 10 am on December 2nd, 2015 by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Mahmud Mohammed.

President Muhammadu Buhari landed safely in Indirha Ghandi International Airport, India Tuesday for a four-day summit where he will be participating in the 3rd Summit of the India-Africa forum, a platform set up for the advancement of mutually-beneficial relations between India and African nations.

He would hold bilateral talks with the Indian Prime Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi and other senior Indian government officials tomorrow (Wednesday), ahead of the opening of the summit on Thursday.
