PoliticsPoverty Amidst Plenty In Nigeria by Oliandre(op): 8:03pm On Jul 05, 2012
One of the most eduring problems confronting Nigeria is endemic poverty. Poverty in Nigeria has assumed a monumental dimention, undermining efforts at sustainable development and threatening the welfare and security of many regions. In an ironic twist, Nigeria is plagued with impoverishment amidst plenty. For instance, of Nigeria's 150 million people, over half of her population lives below a Dollar ( N 162 ) per day. Even the the rich in Nigeria are not spared of the scourge of poverty. The annoying thing is that poverty is not God given. Poverty is man made, it arises from conflicting and dominating self interest, that disregard the interests of others.. One interest joins with another and clashes with others, that leads to politics. These divers self interest include domination, exploitation marginalization and subjugation at one end and collaboration, cooperation and alliance at the other (CABALS, POLITICIANS etc).. Despite the enormous endownment of Nigeria in both human and mineral resources, the resouces remain largely untapped. My queston,s,,,. Why are Nigerians still poor inspite of the various policies on poverty alleviation?... Would also like to know the causes of poverty in Nigeria? And one more thing, what do you think about this ''CHALLENGES OF POVERTY ERADICATION AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT IN NIGERIA'' for a project topic. Am a studnt of Igbinedion university Okada, studying economics and development studies.

EducationChallenges Of Poverty Eradication And Sustainable Development In Nigeria by Oliandre(op): 10:53pm On Jul 02, 2012
Sustainable developmeynt and poverty eradication, undoubtedly, are some of the most challenging issues in Third World today (.Nigeria as case study ).. I used to think poverty was just lack of money, but after checking on some of the existing literatures on the subject matter(poverty), i discovered that there is no general consensus on the definition of poverty rather its a multidimentional phenomenom.. I took my enquiry further, so i went to a village close to my school and ask some of the villagers what they know or feel about the subject matter. A woman said "poverty means when person no get money for pocket and when person no fit stand for him right that is when person no get power, when person no fit go or send him children go beta sch like una..." From what the woman said i discoverd that even those in the remote part of the country understands the importance of education and the roles it plays in poverty eradication. Not going to go deep into the subject matter. Well am a final year student of Igbinedion University okada, studying economics and development studies. I want to know what Nigerians think about this topic, would also like Nigerians to give me their own definitions of poverty and posibly contribute to the topic...
