Gov Yahaya Bello, the Kogi State Governor, has said President Muhammadu Buhari remains the “unbeatable candidate for the All Progressives Congress, APC,” in 2019.

Bello said this while stating that people of his state and Nigerians in general were determined to ensure that Buhari continued his “good work for the nation beyond 2015”.

Speaking with reporters in Abuja, Bello said despite concerns about the president’s health, Bubari is “fit to continue to unsettle the forces of corruption.”

According to him, “We are a Democratic Party who will do everything within the ambience of the rule of law. But we cannot forget that our party has the most respected, the most popular and the most incorrigible material in the person of President Muhammadu Buhari.

“All over the world, his name represents anti-corruption, transparency and good governance. We cannot jettison such a global brand.

“It is true that many people are concerned about his health. President Buhari is now fit to continue to unsettle the forces of corruption who think four years are enough for people to forget the pains their corruption brought on our people.

“People who love Nigeria will definitely want Mr. President to continue. His second term will help strengthen our institutions of governance and assure our nation of a greater tomorrow.

“Ambitions are normal in politics. But the Nigerian project is far more important than the interest of individuals. Our party leaders will continue to act in unison for the prosperity of Nigeria”.

South Africans have reacted to the erected statue of President Jacob Zuma of South Africa by Imo State governor, Rochas Owelle Okorocha.

The current trending update as more than 100 Nigerian students on scholarship in the United Kingdom universities could be deported home as early as this week except their fees are settled immediately, according to The Telegraph of London.

Fresh update reveals that the students are said to be sponsored by a regional agency and some of them are saddled with debts of up to £20,000.

The name of the sponsor agency was not given in the report.

The report described the students as “some of the Nigeria’s brightest undergraduates.

”They have been told that they will not receive their degree certification even though many of them completed their courses in the last academic year.

The newspaper said some of the affected students claimed they have been warned they could be deported by Friday, October 20.

It said the Nigerian High Commission in London confirmed that 152 students had been caught up in the scandal, and that the sponsor agency had been left with a “draught of funding” due to a slump in Nigeria’s oil revenues.

The High Commission said in a statement that additional funding had been approved for 87 students.

There was no mention of how soon the bill would be paid.

Newcastle United and West Ham United’s grounds have been raided in a fraud investigation.
Newcastle’s managing director Lee Charnley was among “several men within professional football” who were arrested. He was released without charge at about 17:00 BST.

The HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) deployed 180 officers across the UK and France.
The suspected income tax and National Insurance fraud amounts to five million pounds (about N1.96 billion)
HMRC said it searched premises in the north-east and south-east of England, and seized business records, financial records, computers and mobile phones.
West Ham’s London Olympic Stadium and Newcastle’s St James’ Park were among the locations raided.

HMRC officers also visited offices belonging to Chelsea FC “in connection with its wider investigation”, a club spokesman confirmed.
But it is understood the club’s premises were not raided and no arrests were made.

“HMRC has requested certain information which the club will provide,” the spokesman said.
The Magpies’ managing director Mr. Charnley, 39, was earlier taken away from St James’ Park by officers.

Argentina’s football association fired Edgardo Bauza as coach of the crisis-hit national team as it struggles to qualify for next year’s World Cup, the head of the body said Monday.

It was the first big move by the Argentine Football Association (AFA) since it last month picked new executives tasked with ending three years of turmoil in the Argentine game.

“We have reached a verbal agreement. We have told Edgardo Bauza that he is no longer the coach of Argentina,” the AFA’s new president Claudio Tapia told reporters after meeting with Bauza at the association’s headquarters.

He did not say who Bauza’s replacement would be, but said more details would be given at a news conference for Tuesday at 2230 GMT at the AFA.

Mauricio Pochettino has warned Chelsea that his Tottenham side are ready to capitalise on any more slips from the Premier League leaders. Pochettino Tottenham closed the gap on Chelsea to seven points on Saturday as they won 2-0 at Burnley while their London rivals were crashing to a shock 2-1 home defeat against lowly Crystal Palace.

With nine games remaining, Pochettino’s second-placed team suddenly find themselves with a chance to put real pressure on Chelsea for the first time this season.

The title fight could swing further in Tottenham’s favour on Wednesday evening as Chelsea face a tough fixture against Manchester City at Stamford Bridge, while Tottenham travel to struggling Swansea. With Chelsea showing signs of vulnerability, Pochettino stressed Spurs must take full advantage if they stumble again.

“It’s now seven points, it’s completely different to 10,” he said. “But there’s still a lot of work to do. It’s not dependent on us; it’s dependent on if Chelsea fail. But in that moment if they fail we need to do our job. “If we do our job we can be there until the end of the season and try to fight for the title.

“We are at seven points now and it is important to be there if Chelsea fail. We are there fighting for the Premier League.” Despite that rare home defeat against Palace, Chelsea still have the fate of the title in their own hands. The Commonwealth Games Queens Baton Relay, which breezed into Nigeria on Saturday will have a busy day today as the CGA officials present the Baton to Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode in his office.

The Queens Baton Relay, which is the main curtain raiser for the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia next year, will be led by the president of CGA in Nigeria, Habu Gumel and Sports Minister, Solomon Dalung, as well as the accompanying officials, including Gideon Sam, Adam Best, Patricia Quayle, Jeremy Sutton-Hibbert and Colin Briggs.

After the speeches, it will depart Alausa for the National Stadium where children with disabilities (Special School) welcome the Baton with cultural displays and choreography.

The Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) said in a statement that, “there will be speeches by CGA officials, Australia High Commission and QBR Team. Commonwealth medalists, Olympians and Paralympians will have their turn by carrying the Baton from the Stadium through Ojuelegba, Surulere and back to the National Stadium, while special children will continue sports activities at the stadium after the Relay.

The House of Representatives, yesterday, suspended further deliberations on a bill seeking to make provisions for punishment of sexual harassment of students in educational institutions.
The bill sent to the House for concurrence from the Senate had to be stepped aside for now because of its restrictive scope. The bill, presented for second reading by the Majority Leader, Femi Gbajabiamila (APC, Lagos), pointed out the reasons why the bill should be expanded to accommodate other forms of sexual harassment outside higher institutions, reported Vanguard.

Presenting the bill, Gbajabiamila argued that “the way the bill as it is, is restrictive. What about secondary schools and the work place? It did not talk about sexual harassment in the banks, churches and homes; we should look for a way to widen its scope to encompass sexual harassment in all places.”

At this point, the Speaker, Yakubu Dogara, called for debate, but demanded clarification immediately after the debate

The Super Eagles of Nigeria and the Teranga Lions of Senegal on Thursday played out a 1-1 draw in an international friendly in London.

Senegal’s playmaker Moussa Sow had put his team in front in the 54th minute of the game before a hard fighting Kelechi Iheanacho stole the show for the Nigerian side after he converted a penalty kick in the 83rd minute for the equaliser.

The match played at The Hive, home ground of Barnet Football Club saw the Teranga Lions dominate in full control of the first half and also hitting the Nigerian post.

The Senegalese effort paid off early in the second half when Sow found the back of the Eagles net before Iheanacho restored parity for the Gernot Rohr’s tutored side minutes to the end of the encounter.

There was, however, a sad moment in the encounter as team’s stand-in captain, Ogenyi Onazi, was stretched off the pitch after he was injured in the first half.

Elderson Echiejile was later handed the captain’s armband after Onazi’s exit.

Leicester City winger, Ahmed Musa, had stepped down as assistant captain of the Super Eagles team just before kick-off. Musa was appointed as assistant captain to John Obi Mikel exactly one year ago. He had replaced Vincent Enyeama as skipper before handing over to Mikel Obi while he becomes the assistant.

The Super Eagles will next take on the Etalons of Burkina Faso on Monday at the same venue.

The friendly games have been arranged to get the Super Eagles prepared for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier and the 2018 World Cup qualifiers which will start in June and August respectively.

The friendlies will be the Super Eagles’ first games this year, as the last time they played was in the 3-1 win over Algeria last November in their second group game of the 2018 World Cup qualifiers.

For Rohr, whose side play Burkina Faso in a friendly once again in Barnet on Monday, it extends his unbeaten run since taking over last August to four, including two victories in the 2018 World Cup qualifiers over Zambia and Algeria which sees them four points clear of their rivals.

Mr Akinwunmi Ambode today (Wednesday March 22) assured that his administration will complete the ongoing construction of Ajah Flyover by the end of May 2017, just as he revealed the plans of government to remove three more roundabouts in Lekki-Ajah corridor to ease vehicular movement.

Governor Ambode, who spoke at Lagos House in Ikeja when he received the management of Chevron Nigeria Limited led by its Chairman and Managing Director, Mr. Jeffrey Ewing, said the roundabouts would be removed starting from next week, adding that the action was in line with the resolve of government to totally eliminate traffic in the axis.

The affected roundabouts, according to Governor Ambode, are <strong>Igbo Efon, Chevron and Third Roundabout.</strong> He said since assumption of office, his administration had tried as much as possible to improve on the business environment, and assured that government would continue to invest in security and infrastructure to make life comfortable for residents and investors.

“We have tried to improve services within the State and the area of operation of Chevron which is the Lekki axis is not left out. Few weeks back, we improved on the traffic management towards that axis and we believe that the move would also enhance productivity of the people.

“I also like to use this opportunity to say that because of the impact that we have seen in the elimination of roundabouts in the Lekki axis, we have actually approved another exercise and starting from next week, we will commence the elimination of additional three roundabouts in the axis most especially <strong>Chevron, Igbo Efon and Third Roundabout.</strong> We believe doing that will totally eliminate traffic in that axis and we hope to also open the Ajah Flyover before the end of May,”

Rival English clubs, Manchester City and Manchester United are set for a face off at the International Champions Cup (ICC).

The Premier League teams are scheduled to meet on July 20 at a venue that has yet to be disclosed. It will be the first time both teams will be playing outside of the United Kingdom. Spanish rivals, Real Madrid and Barcelona will also be meeting at the International Champions Cup for the first time in U.S.

Ex Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has called on the club to focus on winning the Europa League. The ongoing battle between the top teams in the league, has left united an option of winning the Europa League. This is to ensure they achieve Champions League qualification.

The Nigerian Senate has called for the resignation of the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Colonel Hameed Ali (rtd).

According to News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the Senate is also asking the Customs CG to cancel the retrospective policy on duties for vehicles.

The senators said on Wednesday that Ali was not fit to hold any public office.

The Senate made this declaration after the Customs Comptroller General failed to appear before the Senate on Wednesday.

The clerk of the Senate had read a letter from the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) Abubakar Malami, advising the Senate to step down the matter of the invitation of the Customs CG.

The clerk explained that the AGF said that the matter was in court and deliberating on it would be subjudice.

The letter elicited strong reactions from lawmakers who accused the AGF of incompetence and flaming division between the National Assembly and the Presidency.

The Customs Comptroller General had earlier said that he will not appear before the Senate until court ruling.

FIFA have banned Ghanian referee Joseph Lamptey for life due to his manipulation of the FIFA 2018 World Cup qualifier between South Africa and Senegal on November 12, 2016 that ended 2-1 in favor of South Africa.

The game ended 2-1 but FIFA launched an investigation into the referee after he awarded a dubious penalty to South Africa for the opening goal of the game, and FIFA decided to ban him, but his assistant referees have been cleared of any wrongdoing.
