The PDP in a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh, on Tuesday said the clarification has become necessary to remove any misconception that it is against the decision of the present administration to probe some past officials of government because they are PDP members.
“The PDP supports the decision of the Federal Government to fight corruption in our country.

However, we make bold to state that it should not be used as a guise to victimize innocent citizens. Democracy has come to stay in Nigeria and no citizen, irrespective of political, religious or ethnic affiliation should be denied access to due process and the rule of law in the process.

“In the same vein, we want to state categorically that the anti-corruption war, whilst targeted at the immediate past administration, should not by any means be blind to the impunity of the present leaders of the country either in terms of borrowing and spending without recourse to the statutory arms and organs of government and dictates of transparency and accountability, or in terms of nepotism in appointments in key institutions such as INEC and the DSS.

“The anti-corruption effort must not be blind to the corrupting of the security system resulting in the intrusion by over-zealous operatives on issues bordering purely on politics; the hounding, arrest and detention of Resident Electoral Officers and members of election tribunals in Rivers, Akwa-Ibom and other PDP states.

“Furthermore we make bold to state that he who comes to equity must come with clean hands. In that regard therefore, we advice members of the APC blowing the horn ahead of the cart to keep quiet because many of them have been major beneficiaries of corruption and sleazes associated with themselves and their allies, especially one of them who as a disguised errand boy of a well known APC leader, is a major beneficiary of the largesse of perpetrators of corruption.

“Apart from Mr. President, who for now, is not associated with any sleaze or corrupt activity in this democracy, most APC leaders are still those who as governors, ministers and labour leaders have been the worst corrupt set of Nigerians ever to bestride the political landscape of the country.

“It is a great miscarriage of perception therefore for APC leaders who are perpetrators of sleazes and corrupt acts to attempt to deceive Nigerians with imaginary holiness in this anti-corruption war by the President.

Consequently, we counsel Mr. President, as the leader of the APC, to remove the log in the eyes of his party while we support his commitment to remove the speck from the eyes of others.

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of Brigadier-General Paul.T. Boroh (rtd.) as the Coordinator of the Amnesty Programme for former Niger Delta militants.

Brig. Boroh, whose appointment takes immediate effect, is to take over the responsibilities of Kingsley Kuku, the former Special Adviser to President Jonathan on Niger Delta who also doubled as Coordinator of the Amnesty Programme.

The appointment of a new Coordinator for the Amnesty Programme is expected to lead to the speedy resolution of recent hitches in its implementation such as the non-payment of outstanding allowances to ex-militants.

Politics3 PDP Governors In Buhari’s Team To Cameroon by olokedde(op): 7:16pm On Jul 28, 2015
Three governors of opposition Peoples Democratic Party will join President Muhammadu Buhari Wednesday as he leaves Nigeria to begin a two day visit to Cameroon to build a more effective regional coalition against Boko Haram.

The governors are Ben Ayade of Cross River, Mr Darius Ishaku of Taraba and Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom.

They will be joined by three of their APC colleagues: Kashim Shettima of Borno, Mohammed Bindow of Adamawa and Samuel Ortom of Benue. Also included in President Buhari’s entourage are the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Defence and the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency.

During the two- day visit, President Buhari will hold talks in Yaounde with President Paul Biya and senior Cameroonian Government officials.

The talks between President Buhari and his Cameroonian counterpart are expected to focus on the full activation and deployment of the Multinational Joint Task Force against Boko Haram, which has been established under the auspices of the Lake Chad Basin Commission.

Both leaders will also discuss further joint measures to curb terrorism, violent extremism and other cross-border crimes with President Biya and Cameroonian government officials.

President Buhari will also use the opportunity of his visit to Yauonde to meet with Nigerians living in Cameroon.

The President, who is due back in Abuja on Thursday, will undertake a one-day trip to Benin Republic on Saturday for talks with President Boni Yayi to round-off the diplomatic shuttles to neighbouring countries, which he embarked upon on assumption of office to strengthen regional cooperation against terrorism and make it much harder for Boko Haram to operate across national boundaries.

PoliticsFederal Government To Start Vehicle Emission Control In August by olokedde(op): 7:03pm On Jul 28, 2015
The federal government has announced plans to commence the National Vehicular Emission Control Programme, which aims to check air pollution from automobile engines, next month.

The NVECP, which was inaugurated about a year ago, would be jointly enforced by four agencies of the Federal Government namely: the Nigeria Police, Vehicle Inspection Office, Federal Road Safety Corps and the National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA).

NESREA, which is the main agency behind the initiative, stated that the programme would help address the concern of vehicular emission caused by the increasing number of old automobiles that ply Nigerian roads.

The Director-General/Chief Executive Officer, NESREA, Dr. Lawrence Anukum, said the agency would spearhead the programme and noted that the Federal Government promulgated the National Environmental Control of Vehicular Emission Regulation of 2011 with the aim of controlling air pollution.

Anukum explained that the programme was part of the implementation of NESREA’s regulation on vehicular emission and this was based on the Federal Government’s directive.

While noting that the first set of vehicular emission testing stations would start operating in the Federal Capital Territory within the next one month, he added that the programme would soon spread to other parts of the country.
