President of Nigeria Muhammadu Buhari has arrived in Ghana for a one-day working visit.
He arrived at approximately 10am at the Kotoka International airport where he inspected a guard of honour mounted in his honour.

Dressed in his signature wear, Agbada, the Nigerian president was received by his Ghanaian counterpart who also wore his traditional smock.

A throng of Nigerians massed up at the airport under two large banners. Many waved brooms, the party insignia of Buhari’s All Progressives Congress, APC.

The broom signifies the house-cleaning agenda the party intends to embark upon after years of mismanagement and corruption.

There was also drumming and dancing as a sizeable crowd hailed their president.

Buhari is in Peduase Lodge where he is holding bilateral talks with president John Mahama.
The former army general won a closely contested elections in March. Nigeria recorded a democratic first as an opposition party won power from the ruling party through the ballot box.

The Nigerian president known for his strong anti-corruption credentials has publicly declared his assets.

Senator Godswill Akpabio has been discharged from the hospital in Abuja.

Reports said the former Akwa Ibom state governor and now senate minority leader was given the all clear this evening at the Trauma Centre of the National Hospital in Abuja.

Akpabio’s vehicle was involved this morning in an accident, when his convoy broke through a red light along the Airport Road.

A witness said Mr. Akpabio was badly shaken and was in a traumatic condition when he was brought out of the crashed vehicle and taken to hospital.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, will represent President Muhammadu Buhari at the swearing-in ceremony of Nigeria’s immediate past Agriculture Minister, Dr. Akinwunmi Adesina as President of the African Development Bank, AfDB. Osinbajo departed Abuja today for Abidjan, Cote D’Ivoire.

The inauguration will take place tomorrow Tuesday 1 September 2015, in Abidjan, Cote D’Ivoire.

President Buhari actively supported the candidature of the AfDB president-elect in a keenly contested election conducted in May this year even before the Buhari presidency assumed office.

You will have the opportunity to receive the education you want and deserve. The Malala Fund and other organizations offered all your classmates who escaped the kidnapping full scholarships to complete their secondary education. Most of the escapee girls accepted this scholarship and are now continuing their studies at a safe boarding school and with the support they need. We hope to someday extend that same scholarship to all 219 of you, when you return home.

Remember that one day your tragic ordeal will end, you will be reunited with your families and friends, and you will have the chance to finish the education you courageously sought. Nigeria moved closer to finishing a plant expected to boost the country’s power generation by almost 10 percent when it signed a financing agreement with the World Bank on Friday.

The Washington-based financial institution partially guaranteed $237 million of debt that is being used for the construction of the Azura electricity plant in Benin City in the south, Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Plc, a government-owned entity that buys power from generation companies and sells it to distributors.

In a statement by NBET, the privately owned facility will provide 450 megawatts of electricity when it starts in 2018.

President Muhammadu Buhari, who came to office in May, has said that boosting Nigeria’s chronically unreliable power supply will be one of his economic priorities.

Power generation in the country is currently at 4,700 megawatts, the power ministry said this month.

Friday’s agreement “represents a major milestone in the evolution of the Nigerian electricity market and provides an exemplary illustration of the commitment shown by the Buhari administration to accelerating investment in the country’s power sector,” NBET said.

Investors and banks including JPMorgan Chase & Co., Standard Chartered Plc and Standard Bank Group Ltd. are lending more than $900 million to the Azura project, according to NBET.
