The Second Forms' Structure
Ip Chun Lan Sau from Chum Kiu The first section of Chum Kiu teaches how to use turning and techniques at the same time, for example the Bong Sau and Wu Sau are performed whist turning and shifting the body weight from one leg to the other. This is teaching the practitioner to use the hips to develop power or Yiu Ma as it's called in Cantonese. Yiu Ma and body movement in general, is not present in the first form. Chum Kiu is also teaching the practitioner about body positioning when using techniques like the Bong Sau which becomes considerably more effective when combined with turning.

The first section also introduces two way energy as seen when the Lan Sau arm Laps back and a straight punch is delivered. This enables the practitioner to deliver more devastating blows with relative ease as the Laping arm is enabling the transfer of power across the body as the force can flow as one motion without interruption, with the addition of pulling your opponent off balance, the target will also be moving into the punch and so additional damage will be caused. The key to doing this is to learn how to use all the muscles in your body in a short sequence ie. your hips and legs turn and start generating some power, which is then carried on my the shoulders and finally the arm. If you miss time this, you end up just striking with your arm and not using the power of your whole body. The only way to develop this skill is through practice. Chum Kiu is a vitally important way to practice synchronizing the body's movements to work as one unit.
Tip If you can't do the turning Lan Sau in the first section quickly and powerfully without loosing balance, you need to practice more. It should feel natural. If it doesn't get your sifu to help you do the movement until it feels natural and comfortable.

Samuel Kwok doing the Bong Sau in the Chum Kiu form The second and third sections introduces Wing Chun stepping, this, when combined with techniques, this enables the safe bridging of the gap between the practitioner and his/her opponent. Hence the form is called Chum Kiu or 'seeking the bridge'. It is with contact that the Wing Chun practitioner has his/her biggest advantage, this is, after all one of the areas Wing Chun specializes in and is a big part of why we do Chi Sau. Furthermore the second section of Chum Kiu is building on Sil Lim Tao by making the practitioner use both footwork and kicks with hand techniques such as blocks/covers.

Chum Kiu also introduces the Wing Chun practitioner to three different kicks, a lifting kick to block others kicks as done by Ip Chun, a front kick which can be aggressive or defensive as used by Ip Ching, and a turning kick which again can be used to stop the advance of an attacker or strike them if they try to get around the practitioner. The Wing Chun kicks like hand techniques are non committal and do not compromise the balance of the practitioner in any significant way. This is due to their speed and lack of height. Most kicks are delivered to targets below the waist, like the groin or knees.
Also throughout the practice of Chum Kiu the practitioner must use both hands at once. Although this is done in Sil Lim Tao, when both hands are used in the first form they perform the same action whereas in Chum Kiu they do different things, requiring a higher level of ability and concentration from the practitioner.

Therefore Chum Kiu builds on Sil Lim Tao.

The second form
Chum Kiu or Seeking the Bridge
There are two main points in Chum Kiu: to avoid [attacks] by turning, and to be stable. I practiced the Lan Sau turning movement in Chum Kiu every day, all day for three months, but my father wouldn't teach me the next movement until I got it right. "You think three months is a long time?" he said, "I followed my master for three years!"

Yes, it does have a website. It depends on the kind of martial art you're interested in. Personally, I'd recommend Krav Maga for you. But you can choose between Krav Maga and Wing chun. I do both martial art style. Here's the website for both martial art styles

Ja, braam use to be, and still is my stomping ground. Extending to Melville too. Kitcheners, Neighbors Good, Great Dane, The restaurant adjacent to Kitcheners they closed. All those places are my stomping ground hahaha!

TMKsouth:
I'm actually in Meyerton, South of Gauteng. Thought you were overseas so didn't wanna complicate my location, just kept it simple as Joburg.

Ja, Braam will be quiet without the Wits and college students there. I've seen it in December, it's a ghost town. I used to stay next to Standard Bank on Jorrisen street back in the day.

Forgot to add. I’ll start learning Mandarin at Wits. Language next year. China is the future

Minxie:
Nope I don't speak the lingo although I've caught on to it pretty easily. Also I don't do martial arts although I decided I want to do it this year Lol covid19 clearly thought otherwise.

In terms of the xenophobia in China, it wasn't limited to black Africans. My colleagues kept complaining about horrible treatment by locals during the outbreak. They were all different races and from different countries. Anyway, the Chinese were led to believe that covid 19 is a foreign virus so they assumed all foreigners have it.
otherwise, they are actually very nice people who are eager to learn about Africans. Unfortunately there are a number of illegal people in China. They don't like illegals. This includes illegals from Ukraine and Russia. I think in Guangzhou the people tend to be more intolerant becomes there are more illegal Africans. I'm not saying that some Chinese aren't racist, but the actual racist ones are very few. And consider things from their perspective: their first exposure to black people was very recently but unfortunately there are many black people trading illegally in their zones. So they get upset over that.

Otherwise, I've gotten a warm reception in China because there are so many South African teachers Lol ! And it's good marketing for SA because I've been approached by so many Chinese asking me for recommendations for vacations in SA
HealthRe: South Africa Covid19 Cases Hit 100,000 - the First in Africa by ololo12: 11:50am On Jun 23, 2020
Yes, it’s sad about the illegal immigrants over there, who don’t have legal documentation. But hey, it is what it is. There would always be illegal immigrant everywhere lol. It’s soothing to hear they are nice to foreigners.

Ummm you should try and become proficient in Mandarin. It would help you out, there’s a lot of benefit attached to knowing and speaking mandarin. Point being, China in 20-30 years would become an undisputed Super Power nation. Plus, you know China is investing heavily in South Africa. I know both countries have a very cordial and mutual relationship. And the trade volume between the two countries keeps increasing.

Interesting to know you’d like to start training in Martial art. Might I ask, which style of martial art are you interested in? You should go for Wing Chun. It’s a woman who invented the Wing Chun martial system. And where I train at roodeport. It’s a lot of women training there. Most of them are coloreds

You should come by and visit for a session, once this pandemic is over.

You must be blind as a bat. Where in my post did I mention you? Oga facefront Biko!

Geenosko:
Apparently reading and comprehension is a very big challenge for you. Didn't you read where I wrote that the spouse must be a citizen or permanent resident? Did the person say he was in status or out of status?

He/she asked a general question to which I correctly answered and you are mentioning me spewing trash.
Be guided please.

Ni Hao! That’s cool. China is where it is at hehehe! My only grouse with China, is how they mistreated Africans folks over the pandemic. It was very sad, I guess it was an isolated incident which took place in the African community in Guangzhou. Outside that, I think China is a nice place. Would love to visit someday and go to the Wing Chun martial school in Hubei province. That’s the birth place of Wing Chun Kung fu. Do you speak mandarin? Are you by chance into martial art ??

Minxie:
I work in China. My contract ends next year and Im counting down the last few months because I want to finish up there and come home for a while. It's been fun but there's really no place like home grin Im in SA now though, i managed to escape China in early February grin

How you mean you stuck in SA?? You don’t live in Mzansi, no? Shame!

Minxie:
I'm stuck in SA so I really wish it would end soon. December is way too far man. By then I will be immune Lol
HealthRe: South Africa Covid19 Cases Hit 100,000 - the First in Africa by ololo12: 8:44am On Jun 23, 2020
Hahaha! I worship at a color church in Florida area. Most of the folks there still think it’s a hoax. It’s crazy how this pandemic has affected peoples lifestyle and whatnot. You think things will return to normalcy by December?? Gosh people are tired and a lot of folks are getting depressed.

Minxie:
Lol no my people believe it's real, they just don't care. If you die, you die and we move on. So I make extra effort to stay away from people Lol I've extended my own level 5 lockdown grin For the first time I'm staying away from my own people hahahaha grin
HealthRe: Martial Art by ololo12(op): 8:37am On Jun 23, 2020
With Wing Chun you can enhance your knives or axes fighting skills. Like you can learn how to either counter or diffuse axe or knife attacks. That’s one aspect of it. Don’t even let me get started on the health aspect of Wing Chun martial art. The benefits are enormous.

Exmilitant:
Here PH city we prefer juju, guns, knives and axes. Never mind tai chi or karate.
HealthRe: South Africa Covid19 Cases Hit 100,000 - the First in Africa by ololo12: 8:32am On Jun 23, 2020
That’s impossible asking color folks to give up drinking & smoking, especially “shisha”. Hell naawww! Ain’t no way color folks are giving that up. It is what it is. Heck, some people believe the whole Coronavirus thing is a hoax. And I don’t blame them either.

Minxie:
lol telling my people to stop drinking and smoking is like talking to a wall. believe me, I've tried. undecided

Fact is, the people are just incapable of staying away from each other. They have to go to each other's houses to "kuier". I actually felt sorry for my people when the lockdown began. They couldn't last a day Lol
HealthRe: South Africa Covid19 Cases Hit 100,000 - the First in Africa by ololo12: 8:29am On Jun 23, 2020
Eish bro! @ TMKsouth when do you think it’s going to peak? From the look of things I don’t think will return to normalcy even in December? It’s cray man.

TMKsouth:
You know your Cape snow and cold-fronts affect us worse here in GP? Please stop it.grin It was freezing during those days up here.
