Education / Re: SSANU Warns Against ‘unjust’ Sharing Of N40bn Earned Allowances by Olude193: 9:30am On Nov 30, 2020
bahaushe1:

You have some points there. But the money is 'earned'. They should present evidence that they have earned it rather come to the media to seek for public sympathy.

One of the major component of earned allowance is 'excess workload allowance'. Everything concerning teaching in federal universities is governed by NUC regulations. An academic staff is expected to have a certain contact hour per week. A class is expected to have a certain number of students depending on the programme. An academic staff is also expected to mark a certain number of scripts per semester. We all know these regulations are not strictly adhered to by our universities. So, an academic staff will naturally accumulate these allowances over a period of time.

For non-teaching staff, they are like mainstream civil service expect for academic technologists. They are employed to work 8am to 4pm. Most of the NUC regulations does not apply to them. And remember for every 3 academic staff there should be 1 non-teaching staff. I am sure you and I know that this is not what is obtainable in our universities.

Based on above factors their earned allowances will generally be low compared to academic staff because of the parameters used in computing the allowances.

The 20% being given to them is generous. They should provide empirical evidence with necessary data if they feel they are cheated not mare media propaganda.

And once 3:55pm nack, their bags are ready.. the ones who will join bodies to transport them they will have confirmed movement

4:00pm they zoom out.. as in they will never stay a second more. If money no dey involved they won't wait a fraction of a second more..

Maybe the ones working for principal officers are more coordinated..

but the rest mistake especially the NASU lower cadres....

You practically have to beg them if you want to do anything in the departmental office as an academic staff...

Very lazy

I said it! This govt likes propaganda and our press people are very lazy. I still don't understand why Punch rush to publish a fake news just to be the first to say something about the aftermath of ASUU's meeting with FG. The other lazy media outlets simply copied the nonesense without verification.

Dear Nigerian students, until you take to the streets about this strike, FG will continue to be dribbling ASUU and frustrating your future because they care less about education in this country. Very sad

Emergency congresses will be held again at various schools and responses collated...

That's how it's been done.

All these lazy reporters should have known that's how the circle rolls.. always reporting false news in different English

This is going to be another avenue for future industrial actions(strike). From my little experience in the academic community, the NASU people don't give much regards to the ASUU members. They only respect ASUU members based on the fact that their promotions depend on their appraisals. It going to be an Herculean task to have all the unions under one umbrella.

Inferiority complex is also there o

Especially between the NAAT and ASUU

Education / Re: FG Speak To ASSU About Universities Resumption by Olude193: 6:30pm On Oct 08, 2020
alexpeteronoja:
Over the past few months, all schools remained closed until now. Recently, secondary and primary school students in some parts of the federation have resumed. Meanwhile, university students still remains at home. The federal government has done everything within its capacity to discuss with ASUU concerning reopening of universities.

Fivekay Cooded gathered that, president Muhammadu Buhari spoke with the ASUU chairman concerning university reopening. Unfortunately, the meeting didn't go well as ASUU disallows the reoepening of universities. Nonetheless, rumors is circulating around that universities and Unity schools will reopen on October 12 2020.

ASUU chairman refuses to allow full resumption of school due to the fact that PMB never allowed for an increment in teacher's salary wage. We all know that Buhari has to adhere to ASUU demands or else school reoepening date won't be made. Along the line, Buhari has to make an increment in teacher's wage to bring about fixation in school resumption date.

As a matter of fact, PMB has to go by the ASUU protocols to bring about a successful meeting with ASUU concerning students resumption. No fixed date has been announced yet by FG has to when universities, polytechnics and unity schools will resume.

All students have been waiting patiently to wait from the FG, what do you have to say on this matter? Therefore, all students should wait ernestly for a successful approval from ASUU.

They have only met with ASUU once and that was in March

malikombi:
Its quite unfortunate that your epistle is written out of ignorance. I could have written thousands of pages to debunk your baseless claim but I don't have the time for an ignoramus. However, it is important for you to note that university lecturers on CONUASS are the least paid (colleges and polytechnic lecturers earn more than us) and the issue of salary increment WAS NEVER part of the negotiations with FG. It is also imperative for you to note that ASUU is a body of intellectual and we can't fold our arms and allow the university education system to decay just as primary and secondary is. An average Nigerian would prefer to send their wards to private pry and sec schools but how many people can afford a private university?? The effort of ASUU is what makes public university to be affordable up till this moment. Note that every university has a governing council who decide the fate of erring lecturers/staff. Its not the duty of ASUU to suspend or deal with any erring lecturer. Lastly, please note that when monies are eventually released for the universities, hold the management/governing council responsible because this funds are not shared within ASUU member. For over a decade, ASUU has been urging the Federal government to constitute a visitation panel to constantly visit university and monitor any misappropriation of funds but they didn't. The only money that comes into our purse is EAA which is our hard earned money and we advised them to incorporate it to our salary which they didn't. I stop here for now

You tried Sir

Education / Re: How Does IPPIS Affect State Universities? by Olude193: 6:03pm On Oct 08, 2020
flyingpig:
any state university that hasn't resumed is due to internal dispute with their state government and not ASUU strike. State universities are not under ASUU union. Once your governor orders state universities to resume they'll resume.

Looool.. wrong...

When the chips are down its ASUU that fights for them.. so I believe there is an understanding between the Federal and State..

The only way a state university lecturers can resume is by opting out of the strike or by opting out of the association.. or if they have been suspended by the association eg LASU
