No, don’t go to the embassy without the scholarship being reflected on your I-20. You should send the letter the department gave you to the international office and request a new I-20 that will reflect the scholarship.
I have done but they insisted they have to carry out background check upon my arrival

Ask the International Office to contact your department and then send you an updated I-20.
Thank you very much… I was told they have to do background check upon my arrival so it can’t reflect yet

Hello everyone,

I was given admission for a Master’s program in US university for fall 2024, but I deferred to fall 2025 because of unavailability of dates. So I was awarded a GSA position that covers my living expenses and tuition.. but it didn’t reflect on the I-20 of fall 2025, but I was given a letter from the department stating my tuition fee waiver and the stipend of the gsa..

My question is can I go to the embassy with the scholarship letter and present to the Visa Officer. This is my first attempt
