PoliticsOndo @50: Tunji-ojo Calls For Unity, Backs Reform Continuity by Oluwalosolami(op): 1:45pm On Feb 04
*Ondo @50: Tunji-Ojo calls for unity, backs reform continuity*

The Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has urged the people of Ondo state to remain united and politically focused, emphasising that sustained national progress depends on continuity, stability and collective support for the administration of President Bola Tinubu as the nation approaches the 2027 general elections.

Speaking with journalists on Tuesday at the Akure Airport shortly after arriving for the grand finale of Ondo state’s 50th anniversary celebrations, Tunji-Ojo said the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Tinubu is already redefining governance through difficult but necessary reforms that must be allowed to mature.

He described Ondo State’s golden jubilee as a symbolic moment, not only for celebration but for strategic reflection on the state’s future and its role in sustaining progressive leadership at the national level.

According to the Minister, the Tinubu administration has embarked on far-reaching economic restructuring, institutional reforms and security realignment aimed at correcting long-standing structural weaknesses in the country.

He stated that the successful implementation of the reforms is contingent upon patience and political maturity among citizens.

He noted that meaningful national transformation takes time and requires sustained public understanding, discipline and support for policies designed to deliver long-term benefits rather than short-term gains

Nation-building is not a sprint; it is a long-distance race. Democracy delivers its best results when citizens are united and committed to continuity,” he said

He added that 2027 should be approached as a period for consolidation rather than political distraction.

The Minister, who arrived in the state in the company of the Minister of Youth Development, Mr. Ayodele Olawande, and Hon. Ife Ehindero, a member of the House of Representatives representing Akoko North East/Akoko North West Federal Constituency, congratulated governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa and the people of state on the golden jubilee, commending their resilience and democratic spirit over the last five decades.

He described Ondo state as a strategic political and developmental pillar within the South-West and Nigeria at large, commending the resilience, unity and democratic ethos of the people of the state over the past 50 years.

He also described the state as a critical contributor to Nigeria’s political stability, economic growth and human capital development.

He was received by leaders and members of the Asiwaju Mandate Group (AMG), led by Asiwaju Olumuyiwa Asagunla, who reaffirmed their resolve to mobilise grassroots support for President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda across the state.

The entourage also included prominent leaders and stakeholders of the Asiwaju Mandate Group, among them Dr Ayodeji Ologun, Director of Communications of AMG; Corporal Nana Opri, Secretary of the group; Senator Yele Omogunwa, Chairman of the Leaders Council; Dr. Lawrence Ibukun, Deputy Chairman, Central, Leaders Council; Barrister Pelemo Ade-Samuel, Legal Adviser; Mrs. Yetunde Adeyanju, State Woman Coordinator; as well as several other political leaders, supporters and dignitaries who came out to receive the Minister.

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi (Ojaja II), on Wednesday visited the headquarters of the Nigeria Immigration Service in Abuja to renew his diplomatic passport.

The revered monarch was received by the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Kemi Nandap, alongside members of the service’s management team.

The visit was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday by the Service Public Relations Officer, Akinsola Akinlabi, and signed at the service headquarters in Abuja.

The statement read: “His Imperial Majesty, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Babatunde Ogunwusi (Ojaja II) yesterday visited the Headquarters of Nigeria Immigration Service for the renewal of his Diplomatic Passport. The revered royal father was warmly received by the Comptroller-General Immigration Service, KN Nandap, pcc, mmis, fsmn, fspsp and members of her Management Team.”

According to NIS, during the visit, the Ooni commended President Bola Tinubu, the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, and the leadership of the Nigeria Immigration Service for reforms being carried out under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

The statement noted that he expressed appreciation for policies aimed at strengthening migration management, border governance and service delivery within the immigration system.

“The first-class monarch used the opportunity to praise the President and Commander-in-Chief, Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, the Honorable Minister of Interior, Hon. Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo and the Comptroller-General on the transformative policies under the Renewed Hope Agenda being implemented at the Nigeria Immigration Service,” the statement read.

The commendation, according to the service, reflects growing recognition of the Federal Government’s efforts to reposition the Nigeria Immigration Service through institutional reforms and modernisation initiatives.

The Nigeria Immigration Service has in recent months said that it has embarked on a number of reforms, including digitalisation of passport services, enhanced border surveillance and restructuring of migration management processes, under the supervision of the Ministry of Interior.

Musa, Tunji-Ojo Push Unified Security Framework For Nigeria

Nigeria’s Defence and Interior ministries are aligning strategies to improve border security and counter emerging security challenges.

The Federal Government has taken steps to strengthen coordination between the Ministries of Defence and Interior in a bid to build a more unified and effective national security framework.
This followed a high-level meeting in Abuja on Friday when the Minister of Defence, Gen. Christopher Musa (Rtd), paid a courtesy visit to the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, at his office.

Tunji-Ojo said national security rests on three interdependent pillars—intelligence, internal security and defence—warning that weakness in any of them threatens the entire system. He stressed the need for collaboration rather than rivalry among security agencies, noting that Nigerians are more concerned about safety and results than institutional boundaries.

The Interior Minister identified border security as a critical national priority, warning that porous borders expose Nigeria to terrorism, transnational crime and illegal migration. He also clarified the role of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) as a specialised agency for protecting critical national infrastructure, including schools, oil and gas facilities, power installations and telecommunications assets.

He called for stronger cooperation between the NSCDC and the military, enhanced training, improved intelligence sharing, and better data management across security agencies. Tunji-Ojo proposed the establishment of an inter-ministerial technical committee to harmonise operations between the two ministries.

Gen. Musa commended reforms within the Ministry of Interior and said modern security threats have blurred the line between internal and external security, making inter-agency collaboration indispensable. He proposed a joint technical security committee to meet quarterly and assess emerging threats, as well as secure technology platforms for real-time intelligence sharing.

Both ministers agreed that deeper collaboration would ease pressure on the military, strengthen internal security operations and improve overall national safety.
