HealthAre These Pills Safe??? by Oma225(op): 2:03am On Dec 09, 2024
Do sleeping pills work and are they safe?
I've got terrible insomnia and it's driving me nuts.
I'm restless at night and most of my sleeptime is always shortlived. I've never had caffeine before and I don't drink alcohol either (some sources say these are possible causes of sleeplessness). Sleeping pills were suggested to me but I've always had mixed feelings about those stuff. I feel people who take that route never wake to see the light of day; I may be wrong though. The situation's overwhelming at this point and it's quite tempting to give them a try...

Any thoughts on this, please?

RomanceDo You Still Pray For Your Partner? by Oma225(op): 10:10am On Nov 24, 2024
It shouldn't always be about counting the flaws of your partner.
It shouldn't always be about the number of red flags you can spot in your spouse.
The simplest things are more often than not, overlooked but they actually matter the most.

When last did you pray for your partner? I don't mean the casual recitation of words to fulfill all righteousness here... I'm talking about sincere, and genuinely, fervent prayers for their wellbeing.

When last did you pray together? It mustn't be in person if there are factors hindering that. It can be over the phone too. It doesn't always have to be argument upon arguments. Just pray.

I'm not saying you should be fanatical about it. Just keep it real and simple.
Men, pray for yourselves and for your lady.
Ladies, pray for your man's success. If it's good for him, it'll be good for you too. Trust me.

(This isn't applicable to "lukewarm" lovers who'd stab you in the back when they eventually acquire a fortune or lose it all! If a man or woman truly loves you, you wouldn't hear "stories that touches the heart" no matter the situation or circumstances you both find yourselves in, be it financial or otherwise).

A couple that prays together, stays together.
Pray for your special person today.

Change your estimation to five or six minutes. I stopped reading immediately at three minutes and had two or three paragraphs more to consume.

Many people are ignorant and enjoy being so. Phones nowadays underline wrongly spelled words. See how many Nairaland entries appear with wrongly spelled words. At least, on Reddit, the users clarify first that English is their second or third language. At that, they still type better than many here who speak and write only English.
I actually read it under three minutes to be sure...but you're right. I wasn't considerate there sad

Platforms like Reddit and Quora are on another level entirely. Guess our ignorance has eaten too deep into us. Like you rightfully said, people are ignorant. The emphasis should be on "and enjoy being so."

Does Google search count
Sure it does. Chat Gpt and a few other platforms and means are very okay too. But that's if you've got a steady means to be online once you need help.
A hard copy of a dictionary or an offline app will be most preferable, if you ask me.
EducationWhen Last Did You Use The Dictionary? by Oma225(op):
So guysss!
I just got talking with this cool dude yesterday… We were initially chatting randomly on a group chat and it was so so engaging until he decided to send me a DM. He said that he didn't mean to pry and that he just wanted to get to know me better, hence the DM. I was instantly flattered by his thoughtfulness because a lot of people these days are in the habit of barging into DMs uncourteously.

So we chatted for a while and then I asked him, “What are your pet peeves?”
And he replied,“I don't keep pets.”
I actually laughed and found his reply quite amusing because I initially thought he was trying to make a joke out of it until I confirmed that he meant it with all seriousness! I told him the meaning politely and urged him to check the dictionary to be sure when he expressed his disbelief... It was a very awkward moment! huh

Okay, hold up! I know what some of y'all are thinking… grin
“Because you manage to know the meaning na.”
“It's a wrong move to correct somebody joor.”
“You should've ignored it and saved his face na.”
“Jobless people everywhere.”
"Na who chop dey look dictionary for words."

Well, that takes us back to the topic: When last did you use the dictionary? If it's been up to 24hrs, then you should try harder. If it's been months now, repent! angry
The only issue I have with this scenario is the fact that he was too forward. It would've taken him nothing if he simply checked the dictionary or even asked Chat Gpt before jumping to reply! If you ask me, looking puzzling words (and somewhat simple words too) up in the dictionary immediately you come across them is the fastest way to learn and tosh up your vocabulary within a relatively short period of time.

C'mon! This is the 21st century we're talking about here! Gone are the days when people carry a bulky hard copy of a book called the dictionary about. I'm pretty sure so many people don't have one in their homes and even their phones right now and I was taught that as a learner, the dictionary should be your best friend! Believe it or not we are all learners; student or graduate, literate or not! Married or single, young or old!

Of course, there was a certain point in time when I wasn't conversant with the word “pet peeve” but it only took me a few seconds to look it up in the dictionary and voilà! It stuck! There are a lot of great minds on this forum, so you've got no excuse if you don't learn a word or two here every single day. Stop coming to Nairaland to spew rubbish and insults all day long (to whom it may concern). Ensure your visits to this forum is insightful and impactful.

If you ain't sure bout the word, don't use it or reply to it. Ask questions or you do the needful! It'll save you a whole lotta embarrassment especially during that interview or when you're tryna impress that girl or guy. It'll most importantly, improve your diction threefold and boost your charisma.

Make use of the dictionary today. If you don't have one, download and install it in your phone right now. It's that simple. Look up words in it everyday and learn. Don't just learn, implement it! You'll be glad you did!
PS: Pet peeve is something that is personally annoying. Simply put, it's your dislike(s).
Is this your first time seeing the term “pet peeve?” Drop a cheesy in the comment section (C'mon, don't be shy wink).
Did you learn something new today? What other word(s) or term(s) did you find intriguing the moment you got to know it's real meaning/context? Share your thoughts smiley

CrimeHelp! It's Been Over 96 Hrs Since I Last Heard From Him by Oma225(op): 1:47pm On Nov 19, 2024
It's been more than four days now since I last heard from him. The minute it clocked 1:05pm today, it became the fifth consecutive day of his "sudden silence."

It's scary because it's almost a week now...
He's quite reserved and in the habit of ghosting once in a while, but it's unlike him to go all silent for up to four days!

His two active lines have been switched off for 4 days in a row now, day in and out...
He has also been offline on all his social media platforms all this while...
His friends hardly keep tabs with him and know little to nothing about his latest activities...
His most recent business partner claims it's been quite a while they communicated last....
He has become "not reachable" all of a sudden and there's no helpful information relating to his exact whereabouts...
His family's most especially worried sick about his health and safety....

It's sincerely worrisome at this point cos it's somewhat a helpless situation; they're hardly any helpful clues to begin with.
Accidents, kidnappings and organ harvests are the order of the day and it only gets worse as we approach the festive season.....

I hate to say, but I've thought of every possible thing that may have happened but I can't accept any.
He still hasn't contacted anybody, through his line or even another means or contact.
NB: He's got a lotta contacts including mine by heart.

Please, when is it proper and most appropriate to declare a person missing?
Does the Nigerian police really help out in tracking down missing citizens?

A few people suggested that I may be too forward and insisted I "calm down... it's just a few days!"
Or could I be overreacting at this point?

Please Nairalanders, how best can I go about this?
Can anyone relate to a similar experience as this? How did you go about it? embarassed
