it in one direction with far greater ease than in the other. The

most common kind of diode in modern circuit design is the

semiconductor diode, although other diode technologies exist.

Semiconductor diodes are symbolized in schematic diagrams

such as Figure below. The term “diode” is customarily reserved

for small signal devices, I ≤ 1 A. The term rectifier is used for power devices, I > 1 A.

When placed in a simple battery-lamp circuit, the diode will either allow or

prevent current through the lamp, depending on the polarity of the applied

Diode operation:

When the polarity of the battery is such that electrons are

allowed to flow through the diode, the diode is said to be

forward-biased. Conversely, when the battery is “backward”

and the diode blocks current, the diode is said to be reverse-biased.

How important is soldering?

Among the foremost of reasons an electronic project frequently fails to work properly is due to "poor" soldering

practices. This is usually caused by "dry joints" when soldering. Here I discuss the correct procedures for soldering

electronic projects.

Dry joints when soldering

At first glance many solder joints appear to be quite "O.K." but on closer examination many are in fact defective. The

insidious problem with dry joints in soldering is that the circuit frequently performs alright for a period of time, even

years before failure.

This problem even occurs with manufactured equipment. Ask any Computer / TV / Video repair technician who has torn a

lot of hair out over an elusive fault ultimately traced back to a dry joint.

Good soldering practices for your electronic project

The cause of dry joints in soldering is mostly the improper application of heat. Both the component leg and the PCB

need to be both heated simultaneously to the correct temperature to allow the solder to flow freely between BOTH

surfaces. Obviously this requires practice and most newcomers inevitably get it wrong.

The circuit that I made this time uses power MOS FET as switching device. I assume that this unit is used with the battery of car or trailer battery . So, the input voltage is +12V DC.

The output voltage is AC 100V You can achieve 230 – 240 AC (PRIMARY WINDING FOR NIGERIA ENVIRONMENT) using appropriate Transformer.

However, input and output voltages aren't limited to this. You can use any voltage. They depend on the transformer to use. The waveform of the output is square wave.

In my experience, it is usable with a lot of home electronics equipment. The electric power, which is possible to handle, is decided by the transformer to use.

This time, I am using the transformer with 12V-10A(secondary side). So, it is possible to handle 120VA(about 100W). .


Note: I was asked about 110 - 240VAC output from some readers. The output voltage of the inverter is decided only in the transformer.

You can use the transformer with 230V – 240 as for primary (input) and 12V as for secondary(output).

At my circuit, primary and secondary should be used oppositely. Then, you will be able to get AC230 - 240VAC from DC12V.
