The Director General of the National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA), Professor John Idoko, Tuesday disclosed that with 3.4 million Nigerians living with HIV/AIDS, Nigeria has become the second largest country where the disease has afflicted so many people.

Idoko, who made this disclosure during a public hearing on a bill seeking an end to discrimination against HIV victims, said the ailment was more prevalent in 13 states.

Idoko, who noted that only 18 per cent of HIV positive women received prophylaxis treatment against mother-child transmission, noted that only 18 per cent of the 170 million population in the country had gone for HIV test, adding that more than 40 per cent of HIV positive persons do not know their status.

Contemporary sculptor Daniel Edwards is a pro at courting controversy. His celebrity-inspired artwork include a 2006 life-sized nude of Britney Spears giving birth to son Sean Preston, a statue of Angelina Jolie breast-feeding, and "hands-on" work called "Paris Hilton Autopsy."

On Wednesday, Edwards unveiled his latest piece: a nude sculpture of a pregnant Kim Kardashian. The life-sized figure, entitled "L.A. Fertility," portrays the 32-year-old reality star in a walking pose without arms. Visitors to the statue, on view at the LAB ART Gallery in L.A., are encouraged to rub Kardashian's enormous belly for luck.
Edwards explained that his work was in response to media criticism over Kardashian's weight gain during her pregnancy with her first child. "People tend to look at the parts, like the creases in her armpits, or how she wore a dress that makes her look like a killer whale," Edwards told Los Angeles Magazine. "I'm stripping it of the details people get stuck on, so they can see the beauty."

Other works in Edwards' exhibit include a bronze of Kardashian and Kanye West's baby in utero, and another pre-natal portrait of Kate Middleton and Prince William's child.
"We live in a media-absorbed culture where anyone can access and share a celebrity's most intimate moments," publicist Cory Allen said in a statement. "Daniel visually captures 'that' intimacy.

Sources report that Jay-Z is about to sign a very lucrative deal with Samsung Mobile. The contract is said to be worth as much as $20 million.

Page Six reports:One source has said, “The eight-figure deal will be inked in the next few weeks, and is the biggest of its kind. You can speculate that he’ll want to develop some kind of new music-streaming service to promote his acts and music on mobile devices.”

Samsung has been quite successful with its Galaxy mobile phones and counts LeBron James as an endorser. A streaming music service would put Jay-Z in competition with Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine’s forthcoming “Daisy” subscription service

Hollywood actor Michael Douglas recently revealed that his life-threatening mouth cancer was caused by MouthAction. Below is how The Sun UK is reporting it...

In a candid confession, the Basic Instinct star said he was told his throat cancer was triggered after he contracted the human papillomavirus (HPV) - the most common form of sexually transmitted disease.
It had been widely thought the 68-year-old Hollywood star’s years of drinking and smoking were to blame for the stage four cancer, which was first diagnosed in 2010.

But in a new interview Douglas - married since 2000 to British actress Catherine Zeta Jones, 43 - said MouthAction had caused the disease.
Asked if he now regretted his years of smoking and drinking, he replied: “No. Because without wanting to get too specific, this particular cancer is caused by HPV, which actually comes about from cunnilingus.”
He went on to say that MouthAction was also the best cure - a claim doctors deny.
He lost more than 45lbs following chemotherapy and radiation treatment - but has been cancer-free for two years.

Young actress Jiah Khan allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself with police claiming she was heartbroken after a failed relationship with the son of an actor couple which possibly drove her to take the step at her home last night.

The body of Jiah, 25, was found hanging at her ‘Sagar Sangeet’ residence in Juhu last night where she lived with her mother and sister who were not present when she ended her life.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that she was in a relationship with Suraj, son of actor couple Aditya Pancholi and Zarina Wahab for nearly a year. Jiah was said to be under depression after coming to know of Suraj’s new love interest, who supplied jewellery to the Pancholis.


Investigators said the actress took her life due to her strained relationship with Suraj, a student at an acting institute.

Suraj and Jiah spoke over telephone a number of times yesterday, with the last call being made at 10.53pm which lasted for two minutes. Soon after, Jiah hanged herself. Post mortem examination revealed the incident took place between 11 pm and 11.30 pm, sources said.

“Jiah was said to be very possessive about Suraj. Last night they exchanged text messages on their cell phones. Suraj also sent her a bouquet which she did not accept,” they said.

Kardashian has indeed been jet-setting for two; in a little over a month, the pregnant reality star has boated in Greece, traversed bridges in France with baby-daddy Kanye West, and rocked out to a Beyonce concert in London before heading back to American soil.

According to our rather rocky math, Kardashian is due sometime in June or July. Conclusion: Kardashian has been logging some serious third-trimester mileage.
Before we could even get an obstetrician on the blower to answer your questions, their female publicists began to sound off. One had delivered a premature baby, and she'd wished that her doctor had restricted her travel to the first five months of her pregnancy. Another rep told me she's currently six months along and had been instructed by her obstetrician not to fly after seven.
So could Kardashian be enjoying some sort of super-pregnancy?
Nope. Turns out, Kim's travel plans were all vetted by her doctor.

See, not every OB/GYN makes the same recommendation when it comes to traveling while pregnant.
"That's OK," Dr. Adeeti Gupta (who, like the other doctors we spoke to, doesn't treat Kardashian) told us after we described Kim's recent travels and due-date window, "as long as the pregnancy has been normal and risk-free, if you're only flying in short stretches — five to six hours — keeping yourself hydrated and keeping the legs moving occasionally during flight."
Why is that?
Because "pregnancy is a hypercoagulative state," says Shannon Hardy, an OB/GYN at the Methodist Hospital in Houston. "You can get clots a whole lot more easily when you're pregnant, so if the flight is a smooth one, we do want you to get up to keep the blood flowing in your legs."
And drink plenty of water, of course.
"There is nothing inherently harmful about air travel" during late pregnancy, notes Dr. Keith Eddleman, director of obstetrics in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Science at The Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York. But many doctors frown on traveling in a third trimester simply because "it separates you from your care provider."

Walter Towers in Prague, Czech Republic, is the latest from modern architectural firm Bjarke Ingels Group. Walter Towers is an ongoing project, but this recently unveiled design for a modern monument has already made the headlines. The innovative designer’s goal was to create an ultra-contemporary structure that would continue in the region’s architectural tradition of cluster building, while ushering in a new wave of fresh urban design in its wake. The result is this unusual grouping of four towers in one continuous structure. Walter Towers is a combination of office and residential space, all connected within a W formation, lending the project a modern fluidity while maintaining Prague’s architectural integrity.

The Swiss Company Rinspeed has developed a new concept car called "sQuba", which is the world's first green diving car. This zero-emission, electric vehicle (EV) is capable of driving on roads just like a normal car, yet it can also be turned into an amphibious vehicle capable of diving, reaching depths of up to 10 meters (33 feet). The car has three separate electric motors. One motor powers the roadster when it's on land, and the other two motors are used for underwater propulsion. When you dive beneath the surface, two fender-mounted Seabob jets appear to help you navigate through the currents.
