Its the eid season and the "eid feeling" is there already, it can clearly be perceived in the air. What a feeling.
Many men are busy ordering for rams, travelling to buy rams while some are saving money to buy it.

However, some muslims have taken the issue of rams so serious as if its the 6th pillar of islam. Some even go to the extent of borrowing loans to get it, so that it won't be said that:
"So you were not able to kill ram?"
Hence, not everyone kills it purely for the sake of Allah but for the sake of the words of people.
Being able to afford a fat ram is not a ticket to jannah and not being able to afford it is not a ticket to hell.
Many are people who kill 50 rams in their entire lifetime yet they may still enter hell because of one reason or the other, yet many are poor people who couldn't afford even a single ram in his entire lifetime yet he may enter jannah without hisab. Such is life.

So being unable to perform the sacrifice with a ram does not make you "LESS OF A MAN", you are still the head of your family, don't become depressed and don't start lying to your family or making false promises to them. Don't jealous or envy those men who are able to afford it, don't evict your tenant or increase the house-rent simple because he has bought his ram while you (the landlord) is not able to afford it.

Many muslims exaggerate so much about their rams that they post pictures of it on social media, some go about announcing the prices at which they bought their big rams. Don't let all this weigh you down.

On the otherhand, many men also underrate this issue, they have money to buy phones/laptops of 80k, but they make flemsy excuses not to buy rams. Some are sowing agbada and cap worth 30k, yet they refuse to buy rams. They see it as a "waste" of money. By Allah, it is not the meat or blood that reaches Allah, but its the piety in our hearts.
Don't call it "a mere sunnah", the sunnah is not "mere", it can mar you or make you.

In summary, do not let the words of the people grieve you, also do not do it because of people.
If you have 3 or 4 wives and you are not able to buy a ram, you haven't lost your status, don't go and borrow load from banks just to make your family happy.
Wives too should not start comparing their husbands to other men who have purchased their rams. Its called "eidul adha" not a ram display competition.
Live according to your means.
