There hasn't been an explicit admission of guilt on the part of Eddie Long - surely that is a requirement to obtain closure and commence a process of restoration to address any underlying issues. I wonder if it is the lack of accountability to a denomination or a larger body that is the root cause here. I remember Ted Haggard had to leave the pulpit at his church, relocate to a different city and undergo both a thorough investigation and a monitored process of engaging all the people who were affected by his actions. Sadly, that aspect has been markedly lacking in the ongoing Eddie Long saga. We may never know the real truth (as if there is any other kind), but I truly hope the lads who were (possibly) abused can gain closure and move on with their lives, |
