I got mine within a week. So it shouldn't be more than that depending on the day you requested for the withdrawal. If you're in Abuja, you'll get it faster.

Just ensure that you follow up the withdrawal email with a phone call to ensure they've seen your email and that they have or they will action it ASAP.

For those who have been waiting for more than 12 weeks after their application docs got to Abuja, sincerely I would advise you consider withdrawing your application so that you'll have a clean record without visa denial.

However, if your school is still able to accept you and there's still time, then ensure that no week passes by without you calling them to know the status of your application, letting them know it's more than 12 weeks and that you need a decision so that you can get on with your travel plans. But if they ask you for a document/documents that you can't provide, sharply withdraw your application before you're denied.

Don't waste time. Count your losses, wipe your tears and look at other options for 2026. This is admission and scholarship season o. Don't waste it.

Hi Everyone,

I hope we are all doing well.

Could anyone please share how long it usually takes to receive your passport back after withdrawing a study visa application?

Hello elders, I’m seeking guidance on a potential NZ study and visa application. I hold a Master’s in Data Science (merit 65/100)- UK and a Bachelor’s in Mathematics (GPA 3.9/5)-Nigeria, and I’m considering a Graduate Diploma in IT (level 7).

My goal is professional: I work in UK healthcare (aka Support work) and have experience with digital health systems and EMRs. I want practical IT skills to lead digital transformation ( development of Electronic Medical Record software for low resource settings/rural areas) in Nigeria.

I’ve consulted the school’s recommended education and immigration agents, application has been submitted but I’d like input from those with experience in NZ visa approvals. Is a level 7 Graduate diploma suitable given my background and goals? and what are my chances of me securing the visa

Thanks in advance

Hello everyone,

I'm new to this thread and I have read lovely contributions from Calabar Sumarai, Lovylovy and some other consistent contributors. Well done 👍🏽

I'm considering moving to NZ for a Phd.
My first degree: Banking and Finance (Nigeria Uni Grade: 2.1) and my second degree:
Entrepreneurship (UK uni, Grade; Distinction)
I have a decade plus of work experience in Banking, financial services, accounting, and business operations.

Sincerely, I'm a bit overwhelmed (reason why I've delayed this Phd thing for this long) and don't even know where to start.

I think my first question will be what area will be best fit based on my academic qualification and work experience (considering the in demand areas in NZ)?

Also, which of the NZ Uni has a not too stressful admission process and which of them provides admission assistance for International students.

Is the NZ Visa process from Naija tedious? What should one expect and what is the visa approval time line (all things being equal) and visa approval rate?

For those who have applied and are already in New Zealand, I will also appreciate your input and if you have resources that can serve as a guide (CV, Proposal and Supervisor email templates) I will be most grateful if you can share or point me in the right direction.

I'm coming out of my shell to ask these questions so that it commits me to start this process🙂
Hopefully the group will be my 'ginger' and I can be in New Zealand ASAP🙏🏽

I await your responses/contributions/guidance/advice

Thank you

With all you've been reading, I'm afraid you're already late. The best time you should have submitted was September, the next best time is beginning of October.

Please don't delay further.

They are saying processing time is 12 weeks (and that can be minimum). So the earlier the better, for your mental health and your travel plans ✌🏽

Okamgba6:
I got admission to study Business Analytics too at DBS, but for the January Intake. With all I've been reading here, I plan to submit my application next week or two weeks from today, Max.
TravelRe: Ireland Study Visa thread,General Life Experience of Nigerians Living in Ireland by ooouuuiii: 3:48pm On Oct 08, 2025
Unfortunately that won't work because if a visa is issued now, it is issued against the admission letter and course you're going for in your admission letter.

The only way January switching can work is if the course you applied for in September has a January intake. With that you can either apply for January admission or school gives you a letter stating that your admission has been deffered to January.

If anyone has a January start for same course and the September resumption deadline has elapsed and you still haven't gotten your decision (your application is still in queue for processing), it's either you withdraw your application so as to prevent a refusal or you quickly (and I mean very quickly) ask your school to defer your admission to January and then you quickly send this to the embassy so that they know you're still in good standing to make use of the visa approval (if given)

The visa entry date is often 3 months so if you get it in October you can still travel before January and all will still work out. All this is ultimately dependent on the fact that you get a visa approval and not a refusal.

bigmills:
Better yet switch to a course that starts in January.
TravelRe: Ireland Study Visa thread,General Life Experience of Nigerians Living in Ireland by ooouuuiii: 2:21pm On Oct 08, 2025
Continue to email them every other day until you get a response. Just don't let more time be wasted so you can move on if it is still in queue for processing.

Lizzzzzyyyyyyyy:
But they aren't replying mails at all.
I wrote them requesting for my application status update for more than a week now, no response at all.

I have also today, still no response from them.
TravelRe: Ireland Study Visa thread,General Life Experience of Nigerians Living in Ireland by ooouuuiii: 12:59pm On Oct 08, 2025
Hi guys,
Except your course has a January intake, the smart thing to do at this time would be to withdraw your application ASAP (if it is still in queue for processing)

That way your visa record remains clean, you can process your refunds from your school if you're not deferring, minimise your losses and use your passport and remaining funds for other opportunities that are still available now because time has already been wasted.
Don't waste it further. ✌🏽

21st July

It's over 10 weeks It's been at the embassy.

olagabriel26:
When did it get to the embassy
TravelRe: Ireland Study Visa thread,General Life Experience of Nigerians Living in Ireland by ooouuuiii: 5:20pm On Oct 01, 2025
I did mine 16th July. Still no decision yet😑

I sent the VO an email again on Monday to find out the status but no response till today.

Tomorrow is another day. It is well

olagabriel26:
Is there anyone who did biometrics in Lagos on July 21 and has gotten decision
TravelRe: Ireland Study Visa thread,General Life Experience of Nigerians Living in Ireland by ooouuuiii: 2:36pm On Sep 30, 2025
I reached out to the VO via email yesterday morning, no response till now. I also called all through the opening hours of their contact centre, there was no response.

And till now, no weekly list😢

Shally233:
Hello everyone, please did anyone send any email to the embassy yesterday or Friday, I haven't gotten a response yet and it's unlike them
The last mail they sent me was to provide proof of extension and they acknowledged it but I haven't heard from them since Friday. Does anyone have any idea what might be wrong?
TravelRe: Ireland Study Visa thread,General Life Experience of Nigerians Living in Ireland by ooouuuiii: 10:56am On Sep 30, 2025
It is well.

Anyone reached out yesterday and heard anything from the VO yet?

List hasn't been released and today's the last day of September. Tomorrow's a public holiday as well so that's minus one day for this week😔
TravelRe: Ireland Study Visa thread,General Life Experience of Nigerians Living in Ireland by ooouuuiii: 11:23am On Sep 29, 2025
Oh. Ok. Now I understand. Yes, September 2026 is too far and the fact that one has to reapply for the visa again is mental torture in itself😢

The withdrawal email you sent to the Embassy was still to this same email right (abujavisaoffice@dfa.ie)

Bigbabyy0:
I just mailed the embassy screenshots of mails from my course adviser and my school international admission team. Mine was an appeal … so I used my first visa responses and the withdrawal visa response from the embassy to apply for refund dear … September 2026 is too far to defer… that’s a whole year … if we had January intake I would have chilled
TravelRe: Ireland Study Visa thread,General Life Experience of Nigerians Living in Ireland by ooouuuiii: 9:26am On Sep 29, 2025
Such a sad situation.

Please how did you go about withdrawing your visa application? I'll appreciate if you can share the process please. Cos this is looking like an option at this time.
Also, does withdrawal not affect your ability to request for school fees refund?

Bigbabyy0:
My dear even if you get your visa… you will be moved to next intake… the latest time of arrival is Sept 28th and to register for taught courses is 26th… if you are in college of art you are lucky … you have till Oct 7th … but i hope you have registered your course … if not… I’m sorry … I had to withdrew my visa and my offer from uniGalway because of the timing and college of medicine had no adjustments on date … I hope you have heard from the embassy.. congrats in advance
TravelRe: Ireland Study Visa thread,General Life Experience of Nigerians Living in Ireland by ooouuuiii: 11:38am On Sep 26, 2025
Amen o. A very big and loud AMEN🙏🏽

Is it that people get messages the Friday before they release list on Monday or when the list is released then they send messages?

Laurapopping:
I’m hoping and praying we get messages today regarding approvals or passport delivery messages. Then maybe use that to stall the school citing you just receive the visa and would be in Ireland. God would do it
TravelRe: Ireland Study Visa thread,General Life Experience of Nigerians Living in Ireland by ooouuuiii: 11:35am On Sep 26, 2025
If your school has an advisor dedicated to your country or region, you might need to speak to the person to know your options. There are so many dimensions to this delay. Deferring means you'll have to reapply for another visa for the session you're deferring to. That's another time of waiting and money to be spent.

Just think through all the questions you have and ask the person and also ask for advice on what your best options are

Shally233:
Hello everyone, please if my visa decision is still pending and school already asked me defer my admission, what do I do?
Also what if my visa was later approved? What do I do?
TravelRe: Ireland Study Visa thread,General Life Experience of Nigerians Living in Ireland by ooouuuiii: 11:04am On Sep 23, 2025
Unfortunately, I don't have a valid DL so I've abandoned the process.
Last last all we want is for them to release the visa and passport in good time to enable us meet up with resumption deadline

Auditt:
I used my driver’s license to complete the registration.
TravelRe: Ireland Study Visa thread,General Life Experience of Nigerians Living in Ireland by ooouuuiii: 1:11pm On Sep 22, 2025
I tried it again now and it just went through.

Unfortunately I have to verify my identity via the ID PAL app and I don't have my passport with me. That's the only valid ID I have.

Was that the process you went through before you could complete the registration and view your application status?

Auditt:
Maybe you have to check your browser. I registered successfully. I used opera browser, desktop version. Maybe you should screenshot the option to select nationality.
TravelRe: Ireland Study Visa thread,General Life Experience of Nigerians Living in Ireland by ooouuuiii: 12:43pm On Sep 22, 2025
I tried creating an account when the link was shared here few weeks ago. 👇🏾https://portal.irishimmigration.ie/en/applications/

But there's no option for 'Nigeria' at the point of selecting Nationality.

Is there any way one can bypass this?

Auditt:
For those that have not got their decision, you can log into Irish immigration portal and check your status - particularly the application stage and the last time they checked your documents.
TravelRe: Ireland Study Visa thread,General Life Experience of Nigerians Living in Ireland by ooouuuiii: 10:12am On Sep 22, 2025
List is out.

Did anyone get their approval?
TravelRe: Ireland Study Visa thread,General Life Experience of Nigerians Living in Ireland by ooouuuiii: 5:13pm On Sep 20, 2025
Ah!

But why? Why are people like this?

We're here all trying to navigate our situation and share info in a community of same purpose. Why would some people want to rip off their fellow country person?

😢 So sad.
TravelRe: Ireland Study Visa thread,General Life Experience of Nigerians Living in Ireland by ooouuuiii: 12:27pm On Sep 20, 2025
Depends on how strict your school is.

You could send an email to your Program Chair, explaining the situation and convincing them that you can catch up with whatever you may have missed as you have been preparing ahead.

You can also contact your country advisor/regional advisor to explain the situation and ask of your best options.

Hello guys, my visa was approved this week but my school gave me until sept 4 as last resumption date. What can I do please?
TravelRe: Ireland Study Visa thread,General Life Experience of Nigerians Living in Ireland by ooouuuiii: 8:09pm On Sep 19, 2025
Ok. Thanks for your response.
My biometrics was 16th July. Going to the 10th week already.
I did some follow up via call and emails this week as well. I'll continue again by Monday.
My visa must be approved and released with speed next week as the Lord liveth🙏🏽

Crsho:
I did my biometric on 9th of July and my documents got there on 10th of July. Also, I followed up before that email was sent to me.
TravelRe: Ireland Study Visa thread,General Life Experience of Nigerians Living in Ireland by ooouuuiii: 7:44pm On Sep 19, 2025
Ok. Thank you
God keep us.
Monday we move again with calls and emails.

Congratulations.

Please when did you do your biometrics? Also was it that you followed up and got this response or they just sent it outright?

Crsho:
I received the following email from the embassy today.

Dear Sir/Madam,
Our records show a decision has been made on this application,

your document will be dispatched today to VFS by noon.

Kindly follow up with VFS

Kind regards

Please for those who have gotten their visas/decision emails, help us answer this o.👇🏾 Biko🙏🏽

ooouuuiii:
Hello everyone,
Congratulations to all who have received their visas.

For those that have received their visas or decision email, please did you receive the decision email before the weekly decision list? This will help in knowing what to communicate with the school since resumption deadline is nextweek

Today's Thursday and tomorrow is the last working day of the week. Can one still get a decision email tomorrow before list is released on Monday?

Also for those who received decision emails, was it as a result of following up with the Visa office via email/calls? Or it was just due process and them sending the decision email?

Please kindly help those of us still waiting with this info so that we can know what to communicate with our schools accordingly. Thank you 🙏🏽
