It’s actually ironic that the same devaluation has made that 1% estimate inaccurate. ₦200 million in cash may be rare, but if we’re talking about net worth, then I believe it exceeds that 1% threshold for more people than assumed.

By net worth, I mean the total value of assets — including land, vehicles, buildings (all valued according to current market realities), and then cash.

Let me give a simple example: in my village — I don’t know about yours — a plot of land goes for no less than ₦10 million. In urban areas, it’s likely much higher. The cost of an average building now starts from around ₦40 to ₦50 million — and that’s without factoring in many other details. Do you know the current price of a standard iron door?

An SUV now costs about ₦12 to ₦15 million for a relatively affordable one. Some people own two cars, a house in the village, and another in town.

My point is: ₦200 million sounds like a huge amount, but in today’s reality, it really isn’t. For someone just starting out and aiming to acquire these basic assets, you could easily spend close to that figure.

That said, I do agree — pulling out that amount in cash is still extremely difficult, and only a few people can manage it.

Even transcorp and UACN that declared 60 kobo and 22 kobo respectively have not dropped to N15 from their respective highs of around N44 and N35 respectively.

GTCO that declared N7 couldn't close significantly on qualifications date from the price when it was announced.

Then you have other companies without dividend and price remained where they are with some even appreciating in price.

This stocks market na the more you look the less you see.
