Tunisian referee Slim Jdidi has been banned by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) after his controversial performance in Wednesday's African Nations Cup semifinal between Burkina Faso and Ghana.

"CAF was not happy with the standard of refereeing in the match," general secretary Hicham El Amrani told a media briefing on Thursday.

"We know they can make mistakes but we expected a better level of refereeing. They are graded on each performance and based on his marks the referee from Tunisia is now suspended for a period of time still to be determined."

Among the contentious issues during Wednesday's match in Nelspruit was the red card given to Burkina Faso forward Jonathan Pitroipa that could mean he will miss Sunday's final against Nigeria.

Pitroipa received his second booking of the game, for simulation, in extra time after going down in the penalty area.

The organising committee will decide on Friday whether the player can take part in the final.

Burkina Faso have launched an appeal but El Amrani said the only way Pitroipa could avoid an automatic one-match ban will be if Jdidi acknowledges he made a mistake in his referee's report.

"The organising committee does not have the power to change a referee's decision," El Amrani explained.

"If the referee has admitted a mistake in his report the committee will consider it and make any decision if necessary. But that report ... is final."

Jdidi also awarded a soft spot kick to Ghana in a display which threatened to overshadow an exciting encounter that Burkina Faso eventually won 3-2 on penalties

Magistrates' Court sitting at Kado has sentenced a 26-year-old phone repairer, Stephen Iyiogwe to two months imprisonment for allegedly stealing three cartons of Indomie noodles and one carton each of Lucozade Boost and Coca Cola.

The prosecutor, Corporal Simon Emmanuel, told the court that the accused jumped over a fence and entered the premises on January 26, 2013 at about 2pm where he stole the items.

He said the offence, criminal trespass and theft was contrary to section 3L/2 and 288 of the penal code law

The prosecutor said Iyiogwe was arrested with the stolen items by a policeman attached to Mopol 50 force headquarters Abuja on the same day and was taken to Jabi Life Camp police station.

The accused who admitted to committing the crime told the court that he was a phone repairer at Wuse Market before the Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB) taskforce seized his work tools thereby rendering him jobless.

He added that having been left without any means of livelihood and exhausting all his money on his sick mother in the village he decided to steal with the hope of selling the stolen items to buy new work tools.

Magistrate Zubairu Mohahmed sentenced him to one month imprisonment on the two count charge of criminal trespass and theft with the jail terms to run concurrently, or a fine of N500 each for each of the charges.

The Association of Nigerian Prostitutes (ANP) has congratulated the Super Eagles of Nigeria for moving on to the Quarter Finals stage of the Orange African Cup of Nations, South Africa 2013, urging them to go for gold.

ANP in a statement issued through its national secretary, Jessica Elvis urged the national team to make the country proud by moving on to the finals and bringing back the trophy.

Three gunmen last Sunday night invaded the country home of chairman of Ogbia local government council in Bayelsa State and kidnapped his parents.

The abducted parents, Mr. Festus Ibegu and Mrs. Ebiye Ibegu were kidnapped at their residence at about 9.19pm by the gunmen while relaxing at home. The armed men shot sporadically in the air to scare any intruders.

The gunmen, who invaded the area with a speed boat, escaped with their victims by passing through Oloibiri water ways to an unknown destination. Kidnapped mother of Speaker of Bayelsa State House of Assembly Madam Betinah Benson was released by gunmen barely a week ago after the payment of an undisclosed ransom.

There have been worries in the state over the renewed incidence of kidnapping but the state government had alleged that some disgruntled politicians in the state were behind the activities of the kidnappers.

Kidnap of the Ibegus currently raising tension in the community may have a political undertone. It was learnt that the gunmen may have abducted the victims for a ransom. No group has however claimed responsibility for the abduction of the chairman's parents whose whereabouts are still unknown. Efforts to reach Chairman of Ogbia local government Richard Ibegu were not successful. Police Public Relations Officer for state police command Fidelis Odunna confirmed the incident.

Kogi State government has banned female teachers in the public primary and secondary schools from wearing trousers during school hours.

The state Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Grace Elebiyo during a press briefing on Wednesday warned that any female teacher caught violating the order will face disciplinary action.

Elebiyo said this new order came after some female teachers in the state were caught violating their professional code of dressing.

She asserted that Kogi State Ministry of Education would no longer tolerate indecent dressing to schools.

The commissioner added that government would soon commence on the rehabilitation and upgrading of facilities in primary and secondary schools in the state.

A South African court has found Henry Okah guilty of terrorism charges leveled against him by the federal government of Nigeria.

Okah is accused of masterminding two car bombings in Abuja on October 1 in 2010. 12 people were killed and 36 were injured. He was arrested in Johannesburg the following day.

Okah was allegedly the leader of the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta, that claimed responsibility for the blasts.

He was charged with engaging in terrorist activities, conspiracy to engage in terrorist activity, and delivering, placing, and detonating an explosive device.

Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godsday Orubebe, who was first to give evidence at the opening of Okah’s trial said Okah was a “key figure in the Niger Delta struggle and the militants had a lot of respect for him”.

Okah denied involvement in the attacks, which were claimed by MEND militants, and also denies being the leader of the group.

You are barely established in the movie industry, why jump into music?
I have always loved music. My mum had a BSc in music from the University of Nigeria when I was younger. She used to sing and dress up in cute attires and hand gloves and all. I kind of liked it. So she made me love music.

Why do you seem not to be doing a lot of movies these days?
I have been doing lots of stuff that have nothing to do with movies. I’ve been very busy, but now I’m very free. That’s why I’m getting back to music. I did a movie last year and it’s about to come out soon. I’m also working on producing a movie in April this year.

So how far have you gone with the plans for the movie?
The script writer has delivered and I’m okay with the story line. I’m just waiting for Emmanuel Ehumadu to finish up the movie he is doing now. Once he is through, he will help me out with the casting, and then shooting will start in April.

How well have your fans received your album, ‘Naughty Queen’?
My marketer has been out for a while now. He just got back, so the distribution of the hard copy will commence soon. So far, my fans love the album.

I do actually care about what people say about me, but I don’t care about what biased people say about me.

Do you think you are always being misunderstood in the media?
No, not really. I’m very down to earth, I don’t pretend. I’m as real as they come.

I take them as one of those things. Then if the person peddling the false story is worth it, I reply and clarify things. If the person is not worth it, I ignore it.

How was growing up for you?
Good and fun. I have the best parents and good siblings.

While growing up, my dad actually bought a grand piano for my mum, so we all played around with it. He has always encouraged me to be true to myself.

My mood or the event determines that. Also, the time of the event matters. During day time, I’m well dressed and decent. If it’s a night party and I want to get naughty, I wear hot stuff.
