Dubai luxury shops are feeling the absence of Nigerians who have been kept away from their usual travels to Asia’s shopping capital by a weaker naira and higher airfares, Businessday reports.

Nigerians who typically buy huge volumes of luxury goods are cutting down on their expenses. “Before now, purchases from Nigerians made up about 18% of our market share, but it has dropped to about eight percent this year. .

I tell you the truth, we really miss Nigerians here and we hope things get better so that they can shop again as they used to,” Bilal Chaouch, sales manager, Paul Smith, said.

“We hope the government in Nigeria will help provide dollars for Nigerians to come and shop here as they use to do. We hope things get better because patronage by Nigerians has been part of our success story,” he added.

Johanna Pascual, sales manager, Accessorize, also said Nigerians often bought accessories in large quantities but there has been a sharp drop this year because only few Nigerians have been visiting recently and those who come do not buy as much as they used to.

“I always believed Nigerians were very rich people because when they came to buy gold, they always bought in large quantities and paid immediately. But that has changed now. We have not sold as much as we sold accessories by this time last year,” Pascual disclosed.

Gilbert, a sales representative of Timex, said he has observed a sharp drop in demand from Nigerians for luxury brands. The Dubai attraction has lost its shine as Nigerians now struggle at the airports to get dollars to travel unlike before when they could easily travel with the cards and shop in over 200 countries around the world.

December 21 last year, a fed up and annoyed customer of telecom company Airtel, Mr Emmanuel Anene got tired of being disturbed by unsolicited messages on his line, so he sued the company.

Then, on November 2nd 2016, the Federal High Court, Maitama ruled in his favour and slammed a N5 million fine on Airtel for the violation of a customer’s right to privacy, this was in accordance with the Consumer Code of Practice Regulations, under the Nigerian Communications Act:

In his ruling, Justice Okeke, the presiding judge held that:

“Putting into consideration the obvious inconveniences, discomfort and embarrassments, the plaintiff had undeniably gone through, the defendant has been directed to pay to the plaintiff damages, not the N200 million the plaintiff asked for but N5 million only.”
Now, note that the court records showed that the plaintiff’s (Mr. Anene) evidence of claims was served on the defendant (Airtel) and led evidence in the support of same.

According to the court:

“The defendant, having received complaints from the plaintiff, but continued to disturb the plaintiff from quiet enjoyment of the line.
“In every wrong there must be a remedy, to vindicate the plaintiff’s right which has been violated in the forth going circumstance by the defendant; the plaintiff shall be awarded damages based on the discretion of the court.

“Against this background putting into consideration the obvious inconveniences, discomfort and the embarrassments the plaintiff had undeniably gone through.”
What this means before you sue any of the telcos over those really annoying spam messages and calls, make sure you’ve exhausted every avenue of complaint.

According to MailOnline, 39-year-old Hadebe, has been living with the gradually expanding growth for 12 years. The tumour has now got so large that he struggles to breathe.

Hadebe after running a test in the hospital was told by the doctors that the tumour is putting pressure on his respiratory airway and that within a year he would no longer be able to breathe.

Hadebe’s local hospital had had him on a waiting list, which meant he would have had to wait for seven years before he could have the operation to remove the tumour – the only way he can get his job back.
