PoliticsIkere-ekiti Voters Decry Non Inclusion Of Stamp Pads In Election Materials by originalmining(op): 1:28pm On Jun 18, 2022
Some electorate in Ikere-Ekiti area has decried the noninclusion of stamp pads in the election materials supplied to the town, alleging that the process has been compromised.

They expressed their displeasure in separate interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in the town.

One of them, an 85-year-old woman, Caroline Elizabeth, vowed to wait until the stamp pad was produced, saying that she could not afford to be disenfranchised.

“This is my civic responsibility and that am still alive to witness this, I must cast my vote.

“This is another dimension in my 85 years in life; I have voted more than 12 times and never witnessed this situation.

NAN reports that as of 10:15 a.m, at Ugele Arokun Ward 3 Unit 6 in Ikere-Ekiti, where the ADC candidate was expected to vote, ballot stamp pads were missing in the voting materials dispatched to the polling unit.

A Presiding Officer, Mr Festus More, said that all the items were completed when he checked through, but could not explain how the stamps were removed.

“I was set for the voting as all the necessary preparation and protocols have been done. In fact, I have given out a ballot paper to the first voter, only to discover that the stamps were missing,” More said.

He, however, assured the electorate that the arrangement had been to get another stamp so that voting could commence in earnest.
PoliticsAisha Yesufu, Adeyanju Say Peter Obi Should Be In Ekiti, Not Egypt by originalmining(op): 3:39pm On Jun 15, 2022
Co-convener of the #BringBackOurGirls Movement, Aisha Yesufu and political activist, Deji Adeyanju, have ripped into Peter Obi, the Labour Party presidential candidate, over his trip to Egypt.

Obi’s visit, which he described as part of his comparative study of economy, education and others, came barely few days to the Saturday gubernatorial election in Ekiti State.

Both political activists, in separate tweets on Tuesday, condemned the trip, adding that Obi was expected to be in Ekiti and coordinate the activities party ahead of the Saturday election.

Their reactions were also in the wake of insinuations that some Labour Party members had been hijacked by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the poll.

Deji wrote: “Peter Obi should be going to Ekiti not Egypt. Election is happening on Saturday in Ekiti. Obi says he’s going to Egypt ro understudy their system. Labour Party have a guber candidate in Ekiti. This was how Kingsley Moghalu was all over the social media but someone called Dumebi defeated him.”

On her part, Aisha Yesufu wrote: “The journey ahead is not about romance. The fact that Labour Party in Ekiti is said to have collapsed its structure for APC as some of you are gleefully sharing is more reason Peter Obi should be in Ekiti salvaging that party and gathering those not in agreement with the collapse.

“For those of you saying why should he be in Ekiti? I ask you why not? A leader is there for others, fights for others and listens to his people. A leader puts everything on the line for others and that way others put everything on the line for the leader.”
PoliticsWhy Does God Keep On Giving Us Bad Leaders? by originalmining(op): 3:57pm On Jun 14, 2022
The above question is literally on everybody's lips. The sad truth is God didn’t give us bad leaders. We did – ourselves! All the time the people will vote in leaders with bad track records into power and when they don’t perform well, they start moaning. A leopard never changes its spots: you get exactly what you vote into power, something that God has no hands in.

So, for all those who wonder whether God has left Nigeria or not, he hasn’t. He’s just watching as a father would watch his misbehaving children before he decides to act or not.
PoliticsHow Tinubu Hopes To Build A New Nigeria by originalmining(op): 3:41pm On Jun 14, 2022
The emergence of the former Governor of Lagos State, Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the flag-bearer of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2023 general elections seems to have reawakened the hopes of many Nigerians that good times may be imminent.

The euphoria that trailed President Buhari’s victory as president-elect is exactly what is currently trailing Tinubu’s victory since last Wednesday when the ruling APC drew curtains on its presidential primary.

Indeed, the party’s National Leader has wasted no time starting mending fences and rebuilding trust among the ethnic nationalities. This achievement would probably not be difficult for him having succeeded as governor of Lagos (1999-2007) to work with not only Yoruba but citizens across ethnic divides in his cabinet or parastatals under him.

For instance, since his emergence as the APC candidate, he has met with the northern governors, and other contestants including Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State and the Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, who ordinarily some naysayers branded him as a traitor for daring to contest the party’s presidential ticket with Tinubu, having been his (Osinbajo) former boss. SportsMan Utd Transfer News: Frenkie De Jong Fits Midfield Desires by originalmining(op): 10:35pm On Jun 08, 2022
Barcelona's Frenkie de Jong has been the subject of intense speculation about an Old Trafford move and evidently, United and Ten Hag, his former boss at Ajax, do like the Netherlands international.

In addition, a midfielder is known to be top of the priority list, ahead of a striker and a central defender, for United.

However, there is a cautious air around Old Trafford.

United don't want to be held to ransom by Barcelona, who are looking to raise funds for their own transfer business this summer.

In addition, it is not entirely clear whether De Jong would be willing to join a club who will be absent from the Champions League this season.

De Jong, 25, left Ajax for Barcelona in 2019. Since joining the Catalan club he has made 140 appearances in all competitions, scoring 13 goals.

PoliticsReal Reason Igbos Can’t Produce Nigeria’s Next President – Uzodinma by originalmining(op): 3:02pm On Jun 08, 2022
Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State and Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Special Convention, said the Southeast was denied the opportunity to produce Nigeria’s next president due to the lack of equity.

Speaking with Channels Television, the governor said the Southeast can’t produce Nigeria’s next president due to injustice.

According to Uzodinma: “From the view of political calculation, the sentiment of the people in the south-east is that they deserve to produce the president because the reason why this power is moving from the north to the south is that the current president is from the north having served for seven years.

“The reason why the south-east is asking for it is that when the power came to the south it went to the south-west and was there for eight years and the next time it came to the south it went to the south-south and it was there for seven years plus.

“The natural thing to do and the justice of the case is that now that power is coming again to the south and since it is only three geo-political zones that made up the south, it should come to the south-east, having been in the south-west and south-south.

“In a situation where equity should be the issue we (south-east) don’t need to struggle for it. But here again, you see how it has come. We will continue to hope that one day God will touch the heart of our brothers and sisters to do that which belongs to us.”

PoliticsEchoes From APC, PDP Primaries In Lagos, Ogun, Oyo by originalmining(op): 9:35pm On Jun 07, 2022
One of the most interesting governorship contests expected in the 2023 general elections will be between the incumbent governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the flag bearer of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Abdul Azeez Adediran, also known as Jandor.

In Oyo State, the contest between the incumbent governor, Mr. Seyi Makinde of the ruling PDP and Senator Teslim Folarin, who emerged as APC’s flag bearer in the controversial primary held last Friday, is also going to be interesting.

Expectations are high among party members that both Folarin and Jandor will change the narrative of governance in Oyo and Lagos if they win the election. They are considered the only formidable forces to rally votes against incumbents in their various states.... Watch video

It's North Or Nothing, We Are Not In Support Of Power Shift To South - Northern APC Youths

A coalition of northern youth groups of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has protested about the decision of President Muhammadu Buhari and 11 Northern governors seeking for a Southern presidential candidate to clinch the APC's presidential ticket ahead of the 2023 elections.

Vanguard reports that the youth groups, APC Progressives Youth Elements and North-East Youth Forum of APC, who protested in Bauchi on Sunday, June 5, said that the governors were selfish to have agreed that power should go to the South.

The protesting youths carried various placards with inscriptions such as“It’s North or Nothing”, “We are not in support of power shift to South”, “We will not accept the decision of eleven governors”, and “It’s in their selfish interest” .

Speaking for one of the groups, the President of APC Progressives Youth Elements, Alamin Bala Mai’auduga, said that it’s not time for the South to rule the country.

“We condemn the action of the 11 northern governors that supported southern candidature. We the Northern youths do not think it is time for any southerner to assume the mantle of leadership. What the governors did is for their selfish interest.

We the Northern youths, who are about 70 percent of the total population of the country, are saying no. We are calling on our able National Chairman, Abdullahi Adamu, to weigh in on this and find lasting solution to this issue. We are not going to support any southern candidate. These 11 governors that made the decision are not the only people in the North. They are doing it for their selfish interests,” he said

On his part, the leader of the APC Youth Forum, Ibrahim Hashim Abdullahi, alleged that the governors opted for such an option so that one of them would benefit from being appointed as vice president.

He lamented that with the hunger, insecurity, and poverty in the region, power needs to be retained for development.

“We will not endorse any candidate from the South, except the North. We are far left behind” he warned
SportsThings Need To Change At Manchester United- Ronaldo by originalmining(op): 11:28am On Jun 05, 2022
Manchester United forward has voiced his opinion on the current state of affairs at the club with the appointment of former Ajax coach, Erik ten Hag

United completed what was their worst season in Premier League history, barely finishing sixth with 58 points after a slip by the Hammers and 35 points behind league-winning City.

There were also reports of tension and in-fighting with several players angered by former interim- coach Rangnick’s outspoken comments in news conferences. It was also reported that some of the squad weren’t happy with Maguire as captain.

‘I know he [Ten Hag] did a fantastic job for Ajax and that he’s an experienced coach. But we need to give him time and things need to change – the way he wants,” Ronaldo said in an interview on the arrival of Dutch.

‘I hope we have success of course. Because if you have success, all of Manchester are going to have success as well.”

The Portuguese star was optimistic about the English giants getting back to winning ways

‘I believe that Manchester will be where they belong,’ he said. ‘As I said before, sometimes it takes time but I still believe,” he said.
