Ttalk: Having read up to this page i can say that i have completed my Fishery 101 and thanks must be giving to the gurus in the house who make this discussion robust, educative and informative, thanks to Robonski 15, Exellecorfarm, Abx 1, Juve farm, Phemmy, Ayosat and other gurus in the house.
This has led me into going into next stage by seeking practical consultation within my area in Abuja to know the viability of the business, this led me to a consultant with a degree in Fishery who express his reservation on fish farming in this part of the country for following reasons: According to him,
1. Fish business is more viable in the south compare to north 2. Earthen pond is better than concrete pond because of its ability to absorb wastes and less usage of water 3. The cost of foreign feeds has increased from N2500 to over N5000 in the last 10years without the correspondent increase in the cost of fish 4. The profit after the cost of feed does not measure with the input and labour 5. The same amount of input would generate more returns when ventured into poultry Although most his concerned have been discussed in the post above, yet the different in location south/north could make a big different in success or failure of catfish business. While i believe there exist different means of maximising profit among fish farmers in the south by the usage of local and formulated feed to reduce the expenses and increase the profit because of the availability of the components in different parts of the south, the same cannot be said about fish farmers in Abuja who largely depend on foreign feeds from inception to maturity.
How can a farmer in Abuja make profit despite the huge cost of foreign feed and non availability of local component to formulate local feeds that are less expensive?
Please i need answered to the questions from the farmers in Abuja and environs and other gurus i.e. Robonski, Exellecorfirm, Abx 1 and others who have been genuinely impacting, educating and sharing their knowledge free of charge on this forum

I actually met with mr samshoz, we attended the cooperative together, he was an observer, I guess he learnt a lot that day.
