Education / MAPOLY To Become Degree- Awarding Institution –amosun by oroleye(m): 8:34pm On Mar 15, 2016
Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun,
has said the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic,
Abeokuta, will soon become a degree-awarding
institution.

He said this at the 14th convocation ceremony of the institution on Thursday.
According to the governor, the state has opened discussions with the National Universities Commission, with a view to actualising this.
He said, “Ogun State has the highest number of higher institutions in the country. This administration believes in creating the enabling environment for them to thrive. We are already looking into the possibility of making MAPOLY a degree-awarding institution.

“We have already written to the National Universities Commission and we believe very soon we will receive its response.”

Commending the leadership of the school, Amosun said he would construct two hostels in the institution, in the memory of his parents.
The governor, who said his administration accorded education priority, noted that it was a
potent tool of achieving socio-economic
development.

The MAPOLY Governing Council Chairman, Chief Alaba Lawson, said the council had entered into a Build-Operate and Transfer partnership with private developers to construct three clusters of
2,500 bed spaces each for students’
accommodation.
She said. “This is to alleviate the pains and sufferings of the students who have to travel long distances between their rented apartments in town and the campus.
“These hostels are equally envisaged to enhance the status of the institution and make it viable for elevation into a degree awarding university of
technology in no distance future.

Classroom doesn't Guarantee Success. Academic excellence is overrated.!! Did I just say that? Oh, yes, I said it. Being top of your class does not necessarily guarantee that you will be at the top of life. You could graduate as the best student in Chemistry, but it doesn't mean you will make money than others. The best graduating medical student does not necessarily become the best Doctor. The best student in Civil Engineering does not Guarantee best Civil Engineer. The fact is life requires more than the ability to understand a concept, memorize it and reproduce it in an exam. School rewards people for their memory, life rewards people for their imagination. School rewards caution, life rewards daring. School hails those who live by the rules, life exalts those who break the rules and set new ones. So do I mean people shouldn't study hard in school? Oh no!!! you should. But don't sacrifice every other thing on the altar of First Class. Don't limit yourself to the classroom. Do something practical and radical; take a leadership position. Start a business and fail, that's a better. Contest an election and lose. It will teach you something Political, Science 101 will not teach you. Attend a seminar, Read books outside the scope of your course. Think without the box if you must ever think. Do something you believe in! Think less of becoming an excellent student but think more of becoming an excellent person. Make the world your classroom! Don't make the classroom your world
