An aide to the Osun SUBEB chairman, Abiodun Alesinloye, has become the subject of widespread mockery after a disastrous live television appearance on May 8. During a morning programme scrutinising education under the Adeleke administration's Imole 2.0 Agenda, Alesinloye confidently declared that over 200 new classrooms had been built across every local government in Osun State. The interviewer simply asked him to name five. He could not. After an uncomfortable silence, he managed to reference just one refurbished school in Ilaje, Ilesa — before admitting on air: "Omg... I can't remember." The clip spread rapidly on X, amassing over 82,000 views within hours. Popular commentator Prince Adeshina (@RealAdeshina) captured the public mood perfectly with a simple post: "ADELEKE WHY? 😭😭😭" The timing is particularly damaging. With the 2026 Osun governorship election approaching, the administration has been pushing its education achievements as a key campaign talking point. Records do indicate ongoing projects including 333 planned classrooms and 400 refurbishments since 2022 — but none of that matters when your own official can't name a single one on live TV. Neither the Governor's office nor SUBEB has responded to the viral clip as of press time. Video link below

Congratulations to him. He really is a good representative of Cross River |
At just 40 years old, Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong stands as one of the youngest senators in the 10th Nigerian Senate and by any measure of legislative output, one of its most productive. Where youth in public office is often met with scepticism, Senator Ekpenyong has responded with a body of work that silences doubt and commands respect. In under three years, he has sponsored 21 bills and moved 8 motions covering some of the most pressing challenges facing Nigeria today from healthcare and education to security, digital rights, environmental protection, and anti-corruption. It is a record that many legislators twice his age would be proud to claim at the end of a full tenure. What makes Senator Ekpenyong's legislative output particularly remarkable is not just its volume, but its range and depth. His bills do not cluster around easy, popular themes, they tackle complex, systemic problems. He decriminalised attempted suicide through the Suicide Prevention Bill, modernised Nigeria's trade mark law for the digital economy, created a legal framework for telemedicine, and moved to reserve 30% of Nigeria's legislative seats for youth under 35. At the same time, he strengthened anti-corruption institutions through amendments to the EFCC and ICPC Acts, expanded school safety through the Civil Defence Corps bill, and pushed for a comprehensive cancer control framework. These are not the interventions of a legislator finding his footing, they are the work of one who arrived in Abuja with a clear sense of purpose and a prepared mind. His motions tell an equally compelling story. Senator Ekpenyong has used the instrument of urgent legislative intervention with precision and results. When Julius Berger stalled on the Odukpani-Itu Highway despite years of budgetary allocations, his motion brought the Senate's full oversight power to bear, resulting in the termination of the contractor's agreement and the acceleration of construction. When telecom providers hiked data costs by 200%, he went to the floor and fought for affordable internet on behalf of Nigeria's digital generation. When a young woman was denied hospital treatment for a gunshot wound because she lacked a police report, he moved a motion that compelled the Senate to summon the Ministers of Health and the Inspector-General of Police. He has consistently demonstrated that a motion, in the right hands, is not a procedural formality, it is a weapon for justice. Perhaps most tellingly, Senator Ekpenyong's most significant legislative achievement, the South-South Development Commission Act, signed into law in March 2025 came before he turned 40. It is a law that will shape the development trajectory of an entire geopolitical zone for decades to come, and it bears the fingerprints of a young senator who understood that the highest purpose of a legislative seat is to build something that outlasts the politician who holds it. As he continues to grow in experience and influence within the 10th Senate, the people of Cross River South and indeed Nigeria are watching a legislator come into full stride. The Standard, it turns out, is not just a nickname. It is a standard of service that Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong is actively setting for a new generation of Nigerian lawmakers.

A case of talent speaking over actions. Well done Bosun |
Most senators handled changes professionally. One chose confrontation. You know who. |

PDP is cooking up lies against SMO only because they find him more competent than their candidate |
You cannot confuse the people of Edo with all this false lies only to bring in the person who does not fit for the position. SMO is the befitting man for the job |
Are you thinking less of SMO, someone who is already a giver prior his political recognition. Please have something else to say about SMO. |

In a devious ploy to undermine the integrity of the electoral process, Governor Godwin Obaseki and his political protégé, Mr. Asue Ighodalo, have resorted to hiring roadside thugs disguised as civil society actors to harass the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Distinguished Senator Monday Okpebholo. The Senator Monday Okpebholo Campaign Organisation said it has uncovered the clandestine operation of these unscrupulous individuals masquerading as a Civil Society group, lacking a known address in Abuja. This group, purportedly named the “Network of Civil Society Organisations in Nigeria,” convened a sham press conference on Monday, calling for the arrest of Senator Okpebholo over a deepfake video in circulation. Director of Media and Publicity of the Campaign Organisation, Mr. John Mayaki, expressed dismay at the degeneration of the polity where fake groups operating on behalf of the PDP candidate engage in such reprehensible acts without any genuine accountability. Mayaki said, “Upon investigation, it was revealed that the alleged office address of the so-called civil society group at Banex Plaza was a fabrication, with the actual occupants being Dipas Raven Limited, a medical equipment repair shop. “Further scrutiny revealed that the group had no credible online presence, raising suspicions about their authenticity and motives. This blatant attempt to discredit Senator Okpebholo through fabricated allegations reflects the desperation of Governor Obaseki and his camp to secure victory by any means necessary, including resorting to baseless accusations and blackmail. “The Okpebholo Campaign Organisation remains steadfast in exposing such deceitful tactics and upholding the integrity of the electoral process”, Mayaki said. |
Accountability, Integrity, and Vision. These are qualities Edo needs in its next govornor. Qualities the current PDP leadership lacks. |
