Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has directed his security team to commence processes for the acquisition of new surveillance drones and other security equipment following the alleged disappearance of five security drones. The decision was reached after a series of security meetings chaired by Adeleke over the past four days, according to a statement issued on Wednesday, by the governor's spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed. Following a review of the situation during the security meetings, Rasheed said Governor Adeleke ordered steps to procure new drones and other security gadgets to strengthen the state's security architecture and improve efforts against crime and banditry. "We are not interested in what has happened in the past. Our goal is to acquire new drones and other needed equipment and materials for our formal and informal security networks to combat crimes and banditry in this state," Rasheed quoted Adeleke as saying. The governor also reassured residents of his administration's commitment to protecting lives and property. "Once again, I assure the good people of Osun that our government is committed to their safety and security. I urge the public to notify security agencies of any suspicious movement or individuals in their areas," the governor added. However, Rasheed did not indicate the number of drones being considered for purchase or the projected cost of the proposed acquisition. The development comes amid a recent spate of kidnappings across the country, particularly following the abduction of dozens of teachers and pupils from schools in the Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, which borders Osun State. https://guardian.ng/news/adeleke-orders-purchase-of-new-drones-to-strengthen-security-in-osun/

Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate for Osun State, has fulfilled a pledge of One Million Naira to the best graduating student of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH). The beneficiary, Oladepo Caleb Olugbenga, received the sum via a ceremonial cheque presentation on May 12, 2026, attended by the student and his mother. The presentation was organised by the Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji Students Support Group (AMBOSS). The One Million Naira pledge was made by Oyebamiji widely referred to by his acronym AMBO as part of his education-focused campaign commitments. The promise specifically targeted the best graduating student from LAUTECH as a recognition of academic excellence, and its fulfilment comes ahead of the Osun State gubernatorial election scheduled for August 2026, in which Oyebamiji is the APC candidate challenging incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party. Oladepo Caleb Olugbenga, who earned the distinction of best graduating student at LAUTECH, was present at the ceremony alongside his mother.

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to investigate and prosecute Hon. Nkeiruka Chidubem Onyejeocha, the Minister of State for Labour and Employment in the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led administration, over allegations of forging election results of 62 polling units during the 2023 general elections in Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency of Abia State. The order was made on September 23, 2025, through an Order of Mandamus following an ex parte application by Hon. Amobi Godwin Ogah, the Labour Party (LP) lawmaker representing Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency.Ogah, in his ex parte application, accused Onyejeocha, a four-term former lawmaker of the All Progressives Congress (APC), of forging election results of 62 polling units which she tendered as Exhibit 3 before the Election Petition Tribunal to claim that she won the election, whereas she lost to the Labour Party. The documents were confirmed by INEC not to be authentic or issued by the electoral umpire, yet Onyejeocha used them to claim victory in the election.Despite petitions written to INEC by Ogah in April and May 2025, the electoral umpire failed to act, prompting the lawmaker to approach the court for an Order of Mandamus to compel INEC to investigate the alleged electoral offence. Delivering his ruling, the presiding judge, Justice M.G. Umar, said he was satisfied that Ogah had placed relevant materials in the affidavit in support of the application.“I am satisfied that the applicant (Ogah) has placed relevant materials in the affidavit in support of this application, and this court is thereby persuaded to exercise discretion in favour of the applicant,” the judge held. The judge further noted that the application was brought under Section 115 of the Electoral Act, 2022, and Order 34 of the Federal High Court (Civil Procedure) Rules, 2019.In his affidavit, Ogah had told the court that the tribunal nullified his election partly based on the falsified result sheets, but the Court of Appeal upturned the decision of the tribunal and restored his mandate, noting that the exhibits presented by Onyejeocha were at variance with the documents in the possession of INEC. This is coming barely three weeks after another Tinubu’s minister, Geoffrey Uche Nnaji, resigned from the cabinet after allegations of forging his university degree and National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) discharge certificate. In his resignation letter, Nnaji had claimed that the allegations against him were “political blackmail” by those who were intimidated by his rising political profile. He, however, did not deny that his degree and NYSC certificates were forged. He thanked President Tinubu for giving him the opportunity to serve in his cabinet.

A nationwide revolt is brewing against the NLC President's misguided attempt to transform the workers' union into a political tool** A groundswell of opposition has emerged across Nigeria as citizens and civil society organizations unite in condemning Joe Ajaero's brazen attempt to weaponize the Nigeria Labour Congress for partisan political purposes. The NLC President's recent announcement that the union would stage mass protests over Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan's suspension has ignited fierce backlash, with Nigerians rejecting what they see as a fundamental betrayal of the labor movement's mission. Multiple civil society organizations have joined forces demanding Ajaero's immediate resignation, arguing that his actions constitute gross abuse of office and dangerous departure from the union's mandate to protect workers' rights. These groups have condemned his intervention as "partisan politics" that has no place in a labor organization supposedly dedicated to advancing workers' welfare. What has particularly incensed critics is the glaring hypocrisy in Ajaero's approach to judicial matters. While he preaches respect for court processes in labor disputes, he disregards the same principles for his political allies. Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan's case involves multiple court proceedings, defamation suits, and contempt findings, yet Ajaero demands immediate reinstatement while trampling on legal due process. The timing could not be worse for Nigerian workers grappling with unprecedented economic hardships. Families struggle to afford basic necessities as inflation ravages household budgets. The national power grid remains in perpetual collapse, plunging millions into darkness and crippling businesses. Unemployment rates climb while workers see no progress on minimum wage adjustments. Against this backdrop, Ajaero's decision to expend NLC resources on senatorial squabbles appears callously indifferent to workers' suffering. The backlash has transcended social media outrage to become an organized movement demanding accountability. Professional associations, market traders' unions, student organizations, and community leaders have voiced disapproval of Ajaero's political adventurism. Their message is clear: NLC exists to champion workers' rights, not serve as a vehicle for political interference. Many draw parallels to Adams Oshiomhole's trajectory, noting how political ambitions ultimately undermined his effectiveness as a labor leader. This resistance represents genuine grassroots rejection of leadership that has lost its way. Workers who trusted Ajaero to fight for better wages and working conditions now find themselves represented by someone more interested in senatorial politics than their daily struggles. The betrayal cuts deep because it strikes at the heart of the social contract between labor leaders and their constituents. Under Ajaero's leadership, the union has achieved few tangible victories despite numerous strike threats. The power crisis continues unabated with no meaningful NLC engagement. Wage negotiations have stalled while workers bear economic hardship as their supposed champion pursues political sideshows. Perhaps most damaging is the perception that he has grown too comfortable with political power brokers, compromising the independence essential for effective labor advocacy. Civil society organizations argue that Ajaero's actions violate fundamental principles of labor unionism and set dangerous precedents that could politicize other professional organizations. Some are mobilizing peaceful protests demanding his resignation, while others prepare formal petitions to the NLC's executive council. The growing opposition reflects deeper concerns about the Nigerian labor movement's direction and the need to preserve institutions that can effectively advocate for workers' rights. This moment represents a critical test of whether the NLC can course-correct before irreparable damage is done to its reputation and effectiveness. As resistance builds momentum, Ajaero faces an increasingly untenable position. The very workers he was elected to represent now actively call for his removal, questioning his judgment and demanding return to NLC's core mission. The message from Nigerian workers and civil society is clear: labor unions must focus on labor issues, not political theatrics. This nationwide rejection of Ajaero's political meddling may represent a turning point for the Nigerian labor movement, demonstrating that workers will not passively accept leadership that betrays their trust for political gain. The question now is whether NLC's institutional structures are strong enough to respond to this grassroots demand for accountability.

"The allegations made by Senator Natasha Akpoti against the Senate president, Senator Godswill Akpabio, should not be tried in the media regardless of its magnitude, the controversy or the interest it generates. What should be of concern is if there is any physical evidence to support the allegations. If the answer is no, then rather than create a media circus, what should be done is set up a Senate committee of investigation to get to the bottom of the matter and protect the integrity of the institution. A media trial only creates drama. It does not create certainty. Prior to these allegations, the 10th Senate led by Senator Akpabio has enjoyed the confidence of the Nigerian public. Besides the Jonathan era, this is perhaps the only other Senate that has had two years without any executive, legislative tension. For the Senate to continue to enjoy the public confidence that it has enjoyed on the Senate to Akpabio's leadership and investigation should be carried out. One thing I must emphasize, as a former Senator, is that seating arrangements are changed when political alignments change. There is nothing unusual about this. It is merely procedural and is a practice in Parliament around the world. My name is Ben Murray Bruce and I just want to make common sense." https://www.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=1185576549632564&id=100045406892049 |
My issue with Akpabio started on 8th of December, 2023. When myself and my husband visited Akwa Ibom for Senator Akpabio’s birthday. Akpabio was showing me around his house and was holding my hands with my husband following behind us when he said, he wants me to come and be spending special moments in his house. My husband heard him and later told me not to travel abroad alone or be with the Senate President alone — Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan on Arise TV Morning Show today https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ltwyT_V56f0 Natasha Accuses Akpabio of Making Sexual Advances to Herhttps://www.thisdaylive.com/index.php/2025/02/28/natasha-accuses-akpabio-of-making-sexual-advances-to-her/?amp
