Politics › Re: N200 Petrol Price: Why Are Nigerians So Addicted To Suffering? by OSPRO: 5:51pm On Sep 08
No government have borrowed like tinubulation. Fact.
nairalanda1:
Before that petrol was 15 Kobo per litre.

Also remember that before it reached 87 naira per litre, it was at 140.naira per litre briefly then 97 naira. And before then it was at 65 naira.

The harsh truth is, goverment has not been able to pay for subsidy for decades. Trying to pay for subsidy forced a lot of borrowing and a lot of partial removals of subsidy to save costs.

Also, you guys do not vote or choose leaders who would improve domestic productivity. That would improve the value of the naira and make fuel sort of cheaper

Any country that tries to do price controls usually ends up burdening its citizens with hefty debt.

No country can afford consumption subsidies in fuel. Even the big countries like Saudi and UAE have been doing partial removal of subsides because it affects them fiscally.

For Nigeria, decades of subsidy is why we have a debt that is now driving borrowing to stratospheric levels. The borrowing would have been much higher if there was subsidy.

Ask your candidate how they intend to improve domestic productivity. Don't ask for more debt in the name of subsidy.
