I followed the security guy down the aisle. There was a glass cubicle that served as a small office. The guy opened the door and ushered me inside. Upon entering the office, behind the desk, I was met with the gaze of a stunning black woman, radiating an air of authority and grace. She had an elegant air about her, and I guessed she was probably in her late forties. "Hello, Donald," she said with a warm smile. "So, you're back in the country. When did you come back?" I was surprised. Donald? Was that the name of the security guy? But of course, she was talking to me. The other guy had taken his leave. I shook my head. 'There's a mistake, madam. I'm not Donald." She stared at me for some seconds while I stared back. "Goodness. What a resemblance! You so much look like Donald, my former favourite Uber driver who relocated abroad some months ago." I shook my head. "I've never been an uber driver before." She grinned and stared briefly at the security monitor. "I saw you on the cctv and I thought it was him. Sorry for the mistaken identity." I could sigh in relief now. It was pleasant to know that I had not been summoned to receive any embarrassment. "It's okay, madam. Let me be on my way." "Er...Just a minute. I can see that you've not picked any item. Was it that you could not find the item you want to buy?" I smiled ruefully. "Let's just say yes, I've not seen the item I came to buy." "My oh my. What item is that?" I was becoming impatient. Had she called me for interrogation or what? Since I was not 'Donald', couldn't I go in peace? 'I need to know so that we can add it or them to our stocks. What item is it?" I sighed again. I would have to be down to earth. "Well, I wasn't really looking for any item. From outside, I liked the plaza and I decided to come in and see things." And that was not a crime, was it? I asked in my mind. She nodded as if that was the answer she expected. Her eyes went to the folder in my hand and lingered on it. "What do you have there?" she asked. This woman could ask questions. What did she think I have there? "Documents, papers, photocopies of my credentials." I opened the folder for emphasis. "If you don't mind, sit down," she said in a gentle tone. "My name is Ms. Modupe Morgan. I'm the owner of this place. Can I see your c.v?" I nodded, took one of the seats facing her and handed one of my c.v to her. She scrutinized it, nodding. "So, you're a graduate of Economics with Second Class Upper?" she said almost to herself. "Yes, madam." She suddenly shook her head. "I thought I could help. I thought you have only secondary school certificate." I didn't know if I should be depressed with that. "Sorry, the only job available is office assistant." She stared at me intently. "Office assistant?" I asked in disbelief. Why had she given me a hope? "Yes." All of a sudden, I could sense that she would be a very snobbish and haughty woman. In spite of feeling disappointed, I managed a smile as I got to my feet. "Well, thank you, madam. I think I should be on my way." |
It happened at a New York Airport. This is hilarious. I wish I had the guts of this girl. An award should go to the United Airlines gate agent in New York for being smart and funny, while making her point, when confronted with a passenger who probably deserved to fly as cargo. For all of you out there who have had to deal with an irate customer, this one is for you. A crowded United Airlines flight was canceled. A single agent was re-booking a long line of inconvenienced travelers. Suddenly, an angry passenger pushed his way to the desk. He slapped his ticket on the counter and said, "I HAVE to be on this flight and it has to be FIRST CLASS." The agent replied, "I'm sorry, sir. I'll be happy to try to help you, but I've got to help these folks first; and then I'm sure we'll be able to work something out." The passenger was unimpressed. He asked loudly, so that the passengers behind him could hear, "DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA WHO I AM?" Without hesitating, the agent smiled and grabbed her public address microphone. "May I have your attention, please?", she began, her voice heard clearly throughout the terminal. "We have a passenger here at Gate 14 WHO DOES NOT KNOW WHO HE IS. If anyone can help him with his identity, please come to Gate 14". With the folks behind him in line laughing hysterically, the man glared at the United Airlines agent, gritted his teeth, and said, "F*** You!" Without flinching, she smiled and said, "I'm sorry sir, you'll have to get in line for that, too." Life isn't about how to survive the storm, but how to dance in the rain. |

There are many things more precious than money It is easy to be enslaved by the mindset that money is the most imperative treasure in society. Money is always transient, just like most things in life. It comes and goes, but how much are you willing to pay for the fleeting pleasure? From Ogba Bus Stop, I took a bus to Ikeja. I went to the consultancy firm where I had dropped my credentials, hoping there would be something for me. There was nothing, yet. I worked around as if one of the numerous companies would invite me in for an interview or a job. Still, nothing. It was a mere fantasy. I walked on till I got to Allen Avenue. At the Obafemi Awolowo Way end, I sauntered on the avenue. Impulsively, I walked into a big store to my right. As I walked into the big supermarket, the first thing I noticed was the sheer size of the store. The aisles seemed to stretch on forever, filled with all kinds of products and goods. I had never seen so many different items all in one place before. I wandered through the aisles, taking in all the sights and sounds around me. There were shelves upon shelves of groceries, from fresh fruits and vegetables to packaged snacks and drinks. The smell of freshly baked bread wafted through the air, making my mouth water and reminding me that I had not eaten that morning. I stopped at the dairy section and marveled at the variety of milk, cheese, and yogurt available. There were so many different brands and flavors to choose from, it was almost overwhelming. I couldn't help but feel a sense of wonder at the sheer abundance of choices in front of me. As I made my way through the supermarket, I couldn't help but notice the people around me. Women pushing carts filled with groceries, couples debating over whichgoods to buy, and individuals browsing the shelves with intent expressions on their faces. Joblessness was indeed a bad thing. How could an energetic guy spend Monday morning looking at items in a supermarket, without the intent of even buying one of them? I was now at the clothes section. The apparels were exotic but I knew they were beyond my reach. I could only looked at the neatly hanged clothes. A security made his way straight towards me. "Good day, but my boss wants to see you," he said courteously. I was surprised to hear that. "Me?" He nodded emphatically. "Yes, you. Just follow me." My heart raced. Why would his boss want to see me? Thank God, I had committed no crime. I had never shoplifted before. Why was I picked out among the numerous customers? I nodded grimly. Of course I would have to follow the guy. We went down the aisle to a glass cubicle that serves as a small office. |
"Tayo, I'm on my way," T.K, my brother, called out from the sitting room. It was Monday morning and the time was about five a.m. He always said this Monday to Friday, about the same time. T.K was on his way to work on Lagos Island and he must leave home early. He was a chartered accountant with an audit firm, while I, his junior brother, was still jobless. I left the bedroom, went to the sitting room, and followed him to the exit door to the apartment. "Have a nice day at work, brother," I said, wishing him well. He nodded and smiled. That was one good thing about him. He was always looking jovial. "Have a nice day too," he said. I locked the door after he had gone and returned to the bedroom. It was a two-bedroom apartment and I was 'privileged' to be given a room. I knew sleep would not come again that morning. I would just loiter in bed until I would get up to take my bath. I intended to go out that morning in search of a job. I did this regularly. At twenty-five and a graduate, I was still searching for work two years after graduation. I had read Economics and I had always believed that in spite of all the obstacles and economic travails bedevilling Nigeria, I would get a befitting job. I never stopped believing that. By eight o'clock that morning, I was set to leave the apartment. I was dressed in casual jeans and t-shirt. In my hand was a black folder in which I kept photocopies of my credentials. Today must be very good for me by the power of almighty God, I said in my heart. I indeed believed something good would happen that that as I stepped out of the house. |
On getting to the store, I realized that it was not as big as the Allen own, but it was also well-stocked. It was there that madam sent one of the sales girls to get food packs for us - Linda and me. It was a delicious lunch. We were there till six p.m. it dawned on me that I didn’t even know my closing time, that was if I had any. Well, no problem. The boss would be paying much for my job. As long as she did not default in keeping to the agreed terms. When it was six-thirty p.m.. madam called me. “Tayo, I think you can close for the day,” she said. “See you tomorrow.” “Good night, madam.” When I left the store, I went to see Linda who was still in the car. It seemed the car was her own office. “I’ll be going home now,” I told her. “We’ll see again tomorrow.” She nodded. “Okay, Tayo.” “Just in case, can I have your number?” I ventured. “Sure.” We exchanged numbers and I bade her farewell. My first day at work was not bad, I decided. I got to our Ogba home few minutes after seven p.m. I had decided to cook white rice since there was some stew remaining. I stripped to boxers and singlet and made straight for the kitchen, thinking about the day’s experience. Hardly had I entered the kitchen when the doorbell chimed. Could that be T.K? I went to the door. No, T.K had not come. It was a woman we knew as Lawyer Debby that was at our door. She was one of our neighbours. “Good evening, madam,” I greeted her. “Good evening, Tayo. I need an urgent favour from you, and I will appreciate if you can be of help.” That was a bit unusual. Lawyer Debby had always carried herself with pride as if she was all-sufficient and would never need favour from anyone. “An urgent favour?” I asked. “What could that be?” I could see that she appeared a bit agitated. What favour could Mummy Favour (we either called her Lawyer Debby or Mummy Favour) need? “it’s a scorpion. I just saw it. Right now, a scorpion is in the wardrobe in my bedroom.” I frowned slightly. “A scorpion?” “Yes, a big one. Big and black. Can you help me kill it?” What a request! And why couldn’t she kill it herself? “You need to be fast,” she urged. |
“Thank you,” she replied. It was then I realized I had given a superlative compliment. There was silence, except from the music from the stereo, which she had reduced the volume of. “Do you have a girlfriend?” she asked. What a question! Okay, I would be truthful with her. “No,” I answered. She looked at me sharply and in a big surprise. “Why?” Why? Must I have a girlfriend? “The last one I had was during my NYSC,” I put in. “And that was about two years ago.” “Incredible.” Even from the side of her face that I could see, there was incredulity visibly written there. “But, why?” she asked again. I grinned at her. “Let’s just say I don’t exactly fancy such a thing.” She briefly looked at me sharply again. “You’re joking, right?” But, I wasn’t joking. “I mean it.” There was a pause in conversation. “Are you gay?” she finally asked. I laughed. It was not funny, but I laughed. A friend of mine had asked that question before. He went on to ask if I was ‘alright.’ I told him I was not gay, and I was alright. What made them think I was ‘not straight’? “You must be gay,” she went on to answer. “So, you’re not attracted to ladies?” “Of course, I’m attracted to ladies,” I corrected her. “Did I not tell you how beautiful you look? I’m not gay and I’m normal. I only have reservations about certain things guys are crazy for.” There was another long pause. The car was now approaching Oshodi overhead bridge. “Are you one of these born- again guys?” she asked. Linda was certainly the inquisitive type. Now, I had met my match. I shook my head. “No, but I absolutely believe that abstinence from sex is a good policy.” This time around, the incredulity on her face was hot enough to melt butter. Then, she shook her head. “I don’t believe you.” Of course, she had the right not to believe. We were still quite strange to each other. It was all right. Several minutes later, we were back at Allen Avenue, Ikeja. I gave Ms. Morgan the reports of all my findings. She gave me some papers to write them out. “That was impressive,” she commented. “Thank you, ma.” I remained in the shopping plaza till about two p.m, when Ms. Morgan informed that we would be going to her store at Opebi Road. I sat on the seat at the front while madam, the boss took the right back seat. On getting to the store, I realized that it was not as big as the Allen own, but it was also well-stocked. |
Once upon a time, in a small village nestled among rolling hills, there lived a humble man named Jacob. Jacob was known throughout the village for his wisdom and deep connection to the divine. His days were spent tending to the fields, sharing his knowledge with the youth, and spreading positivity and love wherever he went. One day, as Jacob was walking along a path near the village's serene lake, he came across a young girl who was sitting by the water, staring pensively into the distance. Sensing her troubled spirit, Jacob approached her and gently asked what weighed heavy on her heart. The girl, named Sarah, poured out her troubles to Jacob, revealing that she felt lost and hopeless, unsure of her place in the world and what path to follow. Jacob listened intently, his heart filled with compassion for the young girl. With a gentle smile, Jacob began to share his wisdom with Sarah, speaking of the importance of faith, inner strength, and the power of gratitude. He told her that true knowledge comes not just from books or study, but from the heart and the soul. As the sun began to set behind the hills, Jacob and Sarah sat together by the lake, their spirits entwined in a shared moment of peace and understanding. Sarah felt a sense of calm wash over her, grateful for the presence of this wise man who had appeared in her life. In that quiet moment of connection, under the watchful gaze of the setting sun, Sarah closed her eyes and whispered a prayer of gratitude to the Lord for sending Jacob her way. She thanked Him for the gift of knowledge, love, and guidance that had been bestowed upon her through the heart of this kind and wise man. And so, in that tranquil moment by the lake, Jacob and Sarah both felt a profound sense of gratitude for the knowledge and wisdom that had touched their lives, a gift from the divine that connected them in a shared journey of faith and understanding. |
Perhaps, to stop me from asking further questions, she switched on the stereo in the car and played music. I held my peace. At the Obafemi Awolowo Way, the morning traffic had built up. It was not unusual. I allowed her to concentrate on driving while various thoughts went through my mind. It took about an hour before we got to our destination. Linda took me to meet the man in charge of the warehouse. He brought out a bunch of keys and opened the place. There were many cartons of goods there. Slowly and meticulously, I counted them, using my phone to make notes and write figures. Linda stayed in the car, while the guy trolled me as I moved back and forth. When I was true, I went back to meet Linda. She was sitting behind the steering wheel, the music still playing from the stereo. “You’re through?” she asked. “Yes.” I joined her in the car. She started it and we began the return leg to Ikeja. “How old are you?” she suddenly asked. I told her. “No wonder, you’re so young.” Was that a compliment? I smiled. “Can I ask how old you are too?” “Thirty-five. A single mother with a ten-year old daughter.” She said as if a robot responded to a prompt question. Wow, so, she was thirty-five. There was a yawning ten years’ gap. It was not that I had any amorous intention, but I was always mindful of peripheral matters. “Interesting,” I said. “How’s it interesting?” I chuckled. “It’s interesting that you already have a ten years old daughter.” She briefly looked confused, probably wondering what exactly I meant by that. “I mean I would never have thought you’re a mother to a ten years old girl,” I went further. “You still looked young and beautiful.” That settled it. A smiled played on her face. Now, be careful, I told myself. I must not say things that would give the wrong impression. “Thank you,” she replied. It was then I realized I had given a superlative compliment. |
Dear friends and readers, due to certain twists in the plot of the story, I've decided to change the title from Most Glamorous Mum to Money Can't Buy Love.

Sola winked at her and watched her and Ayo walk to Rita's bedroom. Once inside the bedroom, Rita faced him squarely and said: "Ayo, do you know I have always love you?" Ayo, taken aback by Rita's sudden confession, pondered for a moment before responding. He decided to be tactful. No, he was not going to tell her outright that he had no such feelings as love for her. "Rita, you caught my attention the moment I saw you too," he admitted, his voice filled with a hint of sincerity. "But love is a complex emotion. It takes time for those feelings to fully develop." Rita's eyes grew wider as she eagerly listened to Ayo, hoping for a glimmer of hope in his response. "You mean... there's a chance?" Ayo nodded, his gaze softened. "There's always a chance, Rita. But let's take it slow and get to know each other better. Building a strong foundation is important for any relationship to flourish." A mix of excitement and relief washed over Rita, and a wide smile stretched across her face. "I completely agree, Ayo. Let's take our time and discover all the beautiful aspects that love can offer us." As they continued their conversation, both Ayo and Rita felt a sense of anticipation and amazement. Love was a mysterious journey, and with their newfound understanding, they were ready to embark on it together. But Ayo was just playing along. His mind was set for an entirely different thing. "Come on, Rita, it's time you show me how beautiful you are without those clothes you are putting on." Rita feigned indifference. "Not until you tell me you love me." Ayo grinned and pulled her to himself. At that moment, he was ready to tell her a million times that he loved her, just to get what he wanted. |
I declare that every moment of my life is blessed and fruitful, By the power of almighty God. |
Thank You Lord. Thank You forever and ever. |
Ms. Morgan went on to talk about how busy her schedules were and how she needed my assistance. I would always be on the move, she said, so there was no need to give me an office. “Your first task right now,” she went on, “would be to follow the driver to one of my warehouses at Apapa Road, Mile 2. You would go there to take stocks of the goods. Are you ready to start?” Of course, I was ready to start. “Yes, madam.” “Okay. Follow me. Let’s go and meet the driver.” We left the office, went down the aisle to the exit of the gate. Outside, at the parking lot, a lady moved towards Ms. Morgan, on sighting her. “Ah, Linda, meet Tayo,” Ms. Morgan said. “He’s my new P.A. Tayo, here is Linda. She knows Lagos like the back of her hand. The two of you will be working a lot together.” I nodded at the woman. “Good morning, Ms. Linda. It’s a pleasure to meet you.” She nodded too. “Good morning, Tayo.” I looked around and faced Ms. Morgan. “What about the driver, madam?” She smiled briefly. “Linda is the driver. Don’t undermine her. I can assure you she is very professional.” She faced Linda. “To start with, take him to the warehouse at Apapa Road, Mile 2.” “Yes, Madam,” Linda replied courteously. Ms. Morgan nodded and went back into the shopping plaza. I looked at Linda critically. She was smartly dressed in a t-shirt and a black trousers. I would never have imagined that of all professions in the world, she was a driver. “Are you going to keep sizing me up, or are we going to start work?” she quipped. “Come on, let’s get into the car.” I followed her to a black Rover jeep. She soon drove to join the main road. “How long have you been working for madam?” I asked her. “Two years.” “Hmn.” She looked at me briefly. “What does that mean?” I shrugged. “Oh, nothing. How are you coping with the challenge of work, especially driving in a place as crazy as Lagos?” She smiled. “I manage to overcome all the odds. It’s determination that matters.” I nodded in agreement. Perhaps, to stop me from asking further questions, she switched on the stereo in the car and played music. I held my peace. |
* * * I was at her place about fifteen minutes to the time she said I should be there, but she was not around, I had to wait at the space just before her office by the aisle. Exactly nine a.m, my phone started to ring. Ms. Morgan was on the line. "Good morning, madam," I greeted. "Good morning, Tayo. I'll soon be there." "Okay, madam." It was twenty minutes later that she came. As I waited, I reflected on my encounter with her in the last twenty-two hours or so. It was a very fascinating one. She finally came around with a woman who looked like a Lebanese or something. I still had to remain where I sat to give them room for privacy as they chatted inside the office. Some minutes later, the other woman left. "Tayo, come inside," Ms. Morgan said. I found myself sitting where I had sat the previous day. Today, she was dressed simply in t-shirt and jeans trousers. I must confess that she looked beautiful and chick. She also smelt nice. Conversely, Ms. Morgan studied me. She smiled and nodded her head. "You're not looking bad in your formal wears," she said. "However, you don't always have to be formal in this job. I will give you wardrobe allowance to up grade your clothes. I will also give you employment letter that states your duties and remuneration." It suddenly occurred to me I didn't even know how much I would be earning. She must have read my mind as she mentioned it. It was a handsome sum of money. I should not be surprised. Her store was worth multi millions of naira. She went on to reveal that she had two other stores, and that she travelled a lot - within and outside the country. "Any question so far?" she asked. I had some questions but I would not ask them yet. |
It is important for men to strive to be good and righteous in all their actions, reflecting the character of the Lord and bringing glory to His name. This means living a life of integrity, humility, and selflessness, and using their strengths and abilities to make the world a better place. By following the example of the Lord and walking in His ways, men can fulfill their role as images of the Lord and bring blessing to those around them. |
Her eyes lit up like stars when she saw Ayo, and she quickly ran over to wrap him in a warm embrace. "Ayo! I'm so happy you're here! I'm so happy you really made it here!" Rita exclaimed, her voice filled with genuine excitement. They settled down comfortably on the vibrant, patterned couch, surrounded by piles of books, sketchbooks, and scattered art supplies. Sola joined them, perching herself on the armrest, as conversations flowed effortlessly between the three of them. Laughter echoed through the small apartment as they reminisced about days gone by, sharing stories of adventures and misadventures. The room seemed to come alive with their infectious energy, as their voices filled the space with joy and laughter. Meanwhile, Rita disappeared into the kitchen, the tantalizing aromas wafting through the air. The sound of clinking pots and pans hinted at the magnificent feast she was preparing for their reunion. Ayo's stomach grumbled in anticipation, knowing that Rita's culinary skills were legendary among their friends. As the conversation grew louder and more animated, Rita emerged from the kitchen, carrying a tray laden with mouthwatering dishes. The table was soon covered with an array of colors and flavors - from aromatic curries and sizzling stir-fries to fragrant rice and freshly baked bread. The friends eagerly dug into the sumptuous feast, immersed in appreciative murmurs and exclamations of delight with every bite. As they savored each dish, conversations continued to flow effortlessly, blending flavors of friendship and nostalgia. As the evening drew on, Ayo couldn't help but feel immensely grateful for the warmth and love that filled Rita and Sola's apartment. The animated conversations, the harmonious blending of laughter and stories, and the mouthwatering delicacies prepared with love, created a perfect haven where time seemed to stand still. Rita stood up and held Ayo's hand. "Sorry, Sola, you have to excuse us now. Ayo and i have some personal discussions to make in the bedroom." Sola winked at her and watched her and Ayo walk to Rita's bedroom. Once inside the bedroom, Rita faced him squarely |
I am a guy very much different from others. While most of my mates would gloat about illicit sexual affairs or their sexual.escapades, I would feel unexcited about such topics. I always believed one should avoid indiscriminate sex and never fancied lustful exploration. I therefore decided to humbly decline Ms. Morgan's proposition. She expressed shock at my response. 'You didn't look like one of the born again guys', she wrote. 'So, why are you acting like one?' 'I act based on my personal conviction, Madam,' I replied. 'You didn't even ask for how much you will be paid. The money is good.' 'I'm sorry I don't need to know how much,' I replied. There was no more reply from her. I was not really happy with the turn of events. I had thought I could get a job that day, but things had not exactly worked that way. I shrugged, believing something good would still come. At six p.m, I started to prepare what T.K and I would eat for dinner. Just then, Ms. Morgan sent another message. 'This is a clean offer,' she wrote. 'I actually need a Personal Assistant. The job details are as follows: 1. You will manage my schedules: these include setting appointments, coordinating meetings, and organizing travel arrangements. 2. You will handle my communication: this include screening and responding to emails, phone calls, and other forms of communication on behalf of my behalf. 3. You may run some errands: Personal assistants often run errands such as picking up dry cleaning, shopping for some items, and being given other tasks to help save my time. 4. You will be organizing and maintaining my records such as files, documents, and records, both in physical form and electronically. 5. You will be performing administrative tasks: such as drafting correspondence, preparing reports, and handling basic bookkeeping. 6. You will be providing other support: such as conducting research, making arrangements for events or appointments, and handling personal matters as needed. NOTE: everything is formal and official. There will be NOTHING sexual or sensuous directly or indirectly.' I could not but smile as I read this latest message. I had got three offers from her that day alone: from office assistant to escort, and now personal assistant. What an eventful day. The last part of her latest offer made a big difference. I smiled to myself. 'Okay, madam,' I replied.' 'I really appreciate your offer. You can count on me.' 'Good. See you tomorrow at the plaza by ten a.m.' I smiled again. What an eventful day. * * * |

In that very moment, the magnificent gemstone seemed to radiate light, casting a captivating spell upon her. Overwhelmed by the thoughtful gesture, Rose threw herself into Ayo's arms, feeling an immense wave of affection and awe. The boutique shop faded into the background as their joyful laughter echoed through the air, filled with the promise of a connection that was both rare and beautiful. In that little treasure trove of a store, Ayo had not only given Rose an exquisite souvenir but had also gifted her a lifelong memory. And as they left the boutique, entwined fingers and hearts brimming with happiness, they knew this was just the beginning of their extraordinary journey together. * * * This weekend, Rita invited Ayo to her appointment. Her friend, Sola, that she shared the two-bedroom apartment with at Ijaiye, Ogba road has teased that she would like to see the man of the moment in flesh. To welcome the august guest, Rita had prepared sumptuous meal. It was a beautiful warm afternoon when Ayo decided to visit Rita in her cozy apartment. As Ayo went to the first floor of the building, the feeling of warmth welcomed him with their sweet scent. Excitement filled his chest as thoughts of visiting Rita brought a smile to his face. Ayo climbed up the flights of stairs, each step filled with anticipation. Finally, he reached the door of Rita's apartment, and after taking a deep breath, they knocked gently. The door swung open, almost instantly, revealing Sola, Rita's vivacious roommate with a wide grin on her face. "Ayo! It's so good to see you again!" Sola exclaimed, pulling her body into a tight hug. "Rita has been waiting for you all day. Come on in!" "But how do you know me?" Ayo said in surprise. "Rita has said so much about you, and has shown me the selfies she took with you." Once inside, Ayo was instantly engulfed in a whirlwind of colors and sounds that filled the small but cozy apartment. Dainty fairy lights cascaded along the walls, casting a warm and magical glow in the room. The walls were adorned with vibrant paintings, reflecting Rita and Sola's artistic spirits. As Ayo walked further into the living area, he spotted Rita in the corner, engrossed in animated conversation on the phone. Her eyes lit up like stars when she saw Ayo, and she quickly ran over to wrap him in a warm embrace. |

It was a beautiful Sunday morning in a small town nestled in the rolling hills of the countryside. The sanctuary bells tolled as the congregation gathered for their weekly worship service. Among them was a young man named Michael, who had recently moved to the town in search of a fresh start. As the service began, the man speaking stood at the podium and began his speech. "Ask not what God can do for you, but what you can do for God," he proclaimed. The words echoed through the sanctuary, prompting Michael to ponder their meaning. After the service, Michael approached the man and asked him to elaborate on his message. The man smiled kindly and invited Michael to join him for a walk in the sanctuary garden. As they strolled among the blooming flowers and chirping birds, the pastor explained that too often, people come to God with a list of demands, expecting Him to fulfill their every desire. But true faith, he said, is about surrendering one's will to God's and serving Him with a humble heart. Michael listened intently, feeling a sense of conviction wash over him. He realized that he had been approaching his faith with a selfish mindset, always seeking blessings and favors from God without considering what he could offer in return. Inspired by the man's words, Michael decided to change his ways. He began volunteering at the church, helping out with various ministries and reaching out to those in need in the community. He discovered a sense of purpose and fulfillment in serving others, and his faith grew stronger as a result. Months passed, and Michael became an integral part of the community. His selfless acts of kindness and generosity touched the lives of many, and he was hailed as a beacon of light and hope in the town. People marveled at the transformation that had taken place in him, and Michael knew deep in his heart that it was all thanks to God's grace and guidance. As he knelt in prayer one evening, Michael thanked God for opening his eyes and showing him the true meaning of faith. He vowed to continue serving God with all his heart and soul, knowing that by giving of himself, he was truly fulfilling his purpose in life. And so, the young man who had once come to God with selfish intentions now stood before Him with a heart full of love and devotion, ready to answer the call to serve and make a difference in the world. For he had learned that true fulfillment comes not from asking what God can do for you, but from asking what you can do for God. |
My mind was busy. A male escort? I had heard and read a lot about it. In all sincerity, it was not the kind of work that I fancied. Ms. Morgan continued to stare at me intently. She was waiting for my answer. "Well, I don't really know," I started. "I think I need to know more about what the job entails before I can say yes I will take it or not." She expressed surprise at my answer, but only briefly. "The pay is good," she said. "And I can assure you that there are other perks attached to it. You will also have the opportunity to travel around." I nodded. "It all sounds good, but I will like to have the details of the job." It was her turn to nod. "Okay, Tayo." She had obviously read my name from the c.v. She gave me a jotter. Write your number here, preferably your WhatsApp number. I'll get in touch with you." "Okay, madam." I wrote my full name and number. I was on my feet again. "Thank you, madam. Thank you for your offers." She smiled briefly. "It's okay Tayo. We'll definitely see again." How could she sure of that? I nodded and left her office. The hot morning, going to noon, sun, hit me as soon as I stepped outside the giant building. I walked towards the bus stop. Oh, what a day it was. Many questions flew in my mind. Who was Ms. Morgan's friend that needed an escort? What would the job entail? How much would be the pay? I took a bus back to Ogba and walked down to our street. It was noon now. I went to the fridge to bring a cold bottle of water. My phone bleeped to indicate an in coming message. I checked the phone. It was a WhatsApp message from an unknown number. On reading it, I could see that it was from Ms. Morgan. 'Hello, Tayo,' it said. 'Here are the details of your tasks as an Escort: 1. Providing companionship and conversation. You are to accompany the lady to social events or gatherings where she may need a date or someone to converse with. 2. Escorting the lady to events or outings: These include parties, or other outings where she may need a companion. 3. Providing emotional support. You will be expected to provide emotional support and comfort to the lady you accompany, listening to her concerns and being there for her. 4. Acting as a personal assistant. You may be asked to help the lady with tasks such as running errands, making reservations, or managing her schedule. 5. Maintaining discretion and confidentiality. You are expected to maintain a high level of discretion and confidentiality in your interactions with your client, respecting her privacy and boundaries. In addition, your duties will typically involve providing companionship, support, and assistance as needed, while always being respectful and professional in your interactions. Let me know your response soonest.' I sighed after reading the whole thing. I needed a clear clarification, a specific clear clarification, so I sent a massage to Ms. Morgan: Will the task involve having sexual affairs with the client? I knew it was a dumb question, but I needed specific answer on that. It took more than twenty minutes before I got reply from Ms. Morgan. 'What if it involves sexual affairs? Does that matter?' Ops! I felt deflated the moment I read this. |
She clouded her face briefly as she stared at me. "Are you always this snobbish?" she asked. "Me? Snobbish?" I almost laughed. Now, who exactly was snobbish between us? Talk about the kettle calling the pot black. "I'm sorry, madam. I believe you are making a mistake." She shook her. "No, no mistake. You almost scorned what I offered you." "Really?" I was genuinely appalled by that. "I'm sorry you see it that way. I'm actually grateful for the offer, but then I can not accept it." She stared at me fiercely. "You're so condescending. Guys like you always believe you must always get what you want." See me see trouble. So, for rejecting the offer of office assistant, I had become 'condescending.' I only sighed without saying a word. Some seconds passed. "Can I take my leave now?" She shook her head. "Not yet. Sorry for my outburst. Can you sit for one moment, please." What a situation I had got myself into. This woman certainly had an ace up her sleeve. I sat down on the seat again. "Forget about what I said concerning office assistant." She smiled briefly. "I was only kidding. Of course, I would not certainly offer a whole graduate like you that kind of job. I actually have a better offer for you." My heart beat fast. "What offer is that, madam?" She smiled again. She must be happy I was so eager to hear what she had to say. "One of my friends just arrived the country," Ms. Morgan said. "She's here in Lagos and she needs a male escort. Can you do that?" Now, this was the last thing I expected from her. Saying I was surprised was an understatement. |

As they drove through the city, she noticed his mischievous grin, and her heart skipped a beat. After a short journey, they arrived at an elegant, boutique store tucked away in a picturesque cobbled street. The shop, adorned with bright colors and alluring scents, felt like a sanctuary of luxury and refinement. Ayo gently took Rose's hand and led her inside. Soon, they found themselves surrounded by exotic treasures from distant lands. Intricately carved wooden sculptures, shimmering silks, and vibrant tapestries caught their attention. The air was infused with an intoxicating blend of fragrances, transporting them to far-off places with each inhale. As they wandered through the aisles, Ayo's eyes glimmered with excitement, his gaze shifting from one extraordinary item to another. Finally, he came across an exquisite necklace, adorned with a rare, iridescent gemstone that seemed to hold the entire universe within it. Its brilliance captivated Rose, leaving her breathless. Sensing her enchantment, Ayo couldn't resist surprising her. He discreetly approached the kind-hearted store owner, a man of the world. A few hushed words were exchanged, and an agreement was reached. A secret smile played at the corners of Ayo's lips. Casually, he guided Rose toward a delicate display of handcrafted, intricately designed jewelry. Among the carefully arranged rings, earrings, and bracelets, the necklace she had admired stood prominently, waiting to be admired once more. With a twinkle in his eyes, Ayo gently picked up the necklace, placed it in a dainty pastel box, and presented it to Rose. "For you," he whispered, overwhelmed by the connection they shared. Rose's eyes widened, as if she embodied both surprise and gratitude at once. Her fingers trembled as she held the box, opening it with bated breath. In that very moment, the magnificent gemstone seemed to radiate light, casting a captivating spell upon her. |
