A lady who lives in my friend's compound, lost her husband and his people showed up from the village two days later to collect everything from her.

As they began to harass her to bring the documents for the house, the car keys and cheque books, a neighbour overheard them.

He went and called three other men who were around in the compound and briefed them on what was happening. These men dressed up; one of them, a policeman who was off duty, put o his uniform. Together, they went to her door and knocked.

One of her brothers-in-law opened the door and told them to go away, that they were having a family meeting.

The three men ignored him and barged into the house. They said they were from the bank, that the late man owed millions in debt and they were there to pack his things.

The wife was shocked. The man's people were shocked.

Their spokesman said, "Officer, sirs, let us hold a small meeting outside. We'll be back."

They went outside to have a family tete-a-tete.

While they were outside, this woman's neighbours told her their plan and assured her that they wouldn't let anything bad happen to her.

Ten minutes later, her brothers-in-law, husband's uncle and cousin had still not returned. One of the men went to check on them.

Do you know these men had left? They fled and left their brother's widow alone to face alleged bankers her late husband was supposedly owing.

They hurried off to tell the whole community that everything the man had been displaying was on loan; that he was poor and owned nothing.

This worked in the woman's favour, because they didn't ask her to bring a dime for the funeral.
After the man was buried, one of the neighbours who had showed up to protect her against her thieving in-laws, helped her collect her husband's benefits and sell the house.

After the sale, she quietly relocated to Canada with her children.

Her in-laws nearly choked to death. I chuckle every time I remember how they showed up again, to ascertain if the house had really been sold by the "bank" and that their brother didn't own it.

Our tradition dictates that a man inherit his late brother's property. It is my right. His wife is not part of his family. The moment he dies, their contract is done.

Interesting, this tradition that demands that you inherit your brother's property, and not his debts. It doesn't tell you to care for your brother's orphans and widow. It gives you the right to only take and not give.

Such a hollow tradition. Sounds like a tradition of thieves, but in most cases people tend to take advantage of the whole situation and try to implore their selfish and greedy side into a none existing tradition, how can any sane person try to take everything a woman and the husband worked for after his death instead of being the pillar of support to them..

Note: As a man, if you have a very entitled family, it's best you keep your family far away from them and never give them the liberty to hurt your immediate family even when you're long gone and also be good to your neighbors, they might be your guardian Angel in most cases like this...

A boy who died from a snake bite a year ago has been identified as a beloved brother and son as his father is charged with manslaughter for allegedly failing to get him medical help.

Tristian Frahm, 11, died at a Murgon property in Queensland's South Burnett region on November 20, hours after he told his dad a snake had bitten him.

On Tuesday night, police charged his dad Kerrod Frahm, 31, with manslaughter, accusing him of not taking his son's complaint seriously.



Police established Operation Uniform Weft a year ago to investigate Tristian's sudden death, culminating in the dad's charges.

Police have alleged Frahm ignored his son's pleas for help and failed to seek medical attention after Tristian told him a snake had bitten him while visiting a friend's property in Murgon on November 20 last year.

Frahm and Tristian went to bed some time after the boy told him dad about the snake bite, where his condition quickly deteriorated, The Courier Mail reported.

It's understood Tristian got out of bed during the night to be ill before his lifeless body was found outside the next morning near a shed.

Tristian's death devastated his family and was remembered as a 'little hero' and an 'angel' following his tragic death last November.

A shattered relative shared photos and videos of Tristian enjoying life to the fullest ice skating and playing games as she paid a heartbreaking tribute.

'I'm so beyond lost for words and the heart break is unimaginable. I'm still in disbelief,' the relative posted at the time.

'I love you more than I ever thought possible, I'm missing you more and more every minute, there'll be a you-sized hole in my heart forever.'

Frahm will appear in Murgon Magistrates Court on December 6.

Sometimes when our kids complain of such, we shouldn't be too careless to ignore. It's best as a parent or guardian you take the proper precautions first if this kind of situation arises than just look over because they are kids.

The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr Abdulrasheed Bawa, has been convicted for failing to comply with an earlier court order.

In a ruling on October 28, 2022, Justice Chizoba Oji of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in Maitama, Abuja, said the EFCC Chairman wilfully disobeyed the court directive and should be thrown into the Kuje Correction Centre.

“The Chairman [of the] Economic and Financial Crimes Commission is in contempt of the orders of this court made on November 21, 2018, directing the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Abuja, to return to the applicant his Range Rover (Super charge) and the sum of N40 million.

“Having continued wilfully in disobedience to the order of this court, he should be committed to prison at Kuje Correctional Centre for his disobedience and continued disobedience of the said order of court made on November 21, 2018, until he purges himself of the contempt.

“The Inspector General of Police shall ensure that the order of this honourable court is executed forthwith,” Justice Oji held.

According to The Nation, the EFCC had arraigned Mr Rufus Adeniyi Ojuawo on a two-count charge before Justice Muawiyah Baba Idris of the High Court of the FCT in Nyanya in 2016.

Mr Ojuawo, an Air Vice Marshal (AVM), was once a Director of Operations at the Nigerian Air Force. He was accused of corruptly receiving gratification to the tune of N40 million and receiving a Range Rover Sport (Supercharged) from one Hima Aboubakar of Societe D’Equipment Internationaux Nigeria Limited.

But in a ruling on November 21, 2018, Justice Idris discharged and acquitted Mr Ojuawo on the grounds that the prosecution failed to prove its case, noting that for the charge to succeed, the prosecution must prove that the defendant corruptly accepted the gift; accepted or obtained the gift for himself or for any other person.

The judge added that the prosecution also ought to prove that the defendant accepted the gift in the course of or for discharging his official duty and that the gift was an inducement or reward.

He held that the burden was on the prosecution to prove all ingredients of the charge preferred against the defendant beyond reasonable doubt as required under Section 131(1) of the Evidence Act, 2011.

“In conclusion, I hold that the prosecution has failed to prove the two counts charge of corrupt gratification under S17 (1)(a) and (c) of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, 2000.

“The defendant is discharged and acquitted on counts one and two of the charge.

“Consequently, the complainant (EFCC) is ordered to refund the defendant his N40 million wrongly paid into ONSA recovery account and to return to the defendant his Range Rover Sport (Supercharged) forthwith,” Justice Idris said.

But the EFCC failed to adhere to the court directive, and at the hearing last month, the lawyer to the EFCC, Mr Francis Jirbo, explained why Mr Bawa had failed to release the funds and the vehicle to the military officer, which Justice Orji rejected.

It’s obvious he has made do away with the funds and vehicles as usual, every security officer feels they are above the law. I’m happy at least justice system in Nigeria hasn’t failed to the cure even though they have been below standard since God knows when..

Hopefully his colleagues in prison will give him a warm welcome..

A cross section of Abuja residents have raised concerns over couples who live in debt after their wedding ceremonies.

They made their observations in separate interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Abuja.

According to them, many couples go out of their comfort zone to borrow to have a lavish wedding which they end up paying throughout their life time.

Mr Abimbola Odunayo, a father of three in Utako, said a wedding is a ceremony where two people are united in marriage and not an avenue for guests to have fun.

Odunayo said he was not against fancy weddings, adding that couples that could afford it should go ahead with it.

“I won’t advise my son who will soon get married to spend all his money to have a flamboyant wedding, rather, he should have a small wedding and save for the future.

“I think those who borrow to have a big wedding just want to show off and feel like they belong,” he said.

Victoria Onifade, a Civil Servant, said that she prefers having a court marriage because it still entails blessing the union.
“Some couples use the ceremony as an avenue to make money that is being sprayed during the event to settle debts.”

Juliet Osita, ho just wedded, said she and her husband planned and saved towards their wedding, so they did not have to borrow.

Osita said that those who have the funds to organise a lavish wedding should go for it and have a wedding of their dreams.

She said: “One should be able to feed well after the wedding and not the other way round.

“People should try and consider their pocket so they don’t end up paying for a loan instead of enjoying their marriage,” she warned. (NAN)
