Here’s the story of how crude oil ushered corruption into Nigeria, and how our agriculture turn down.
Think of Nigeria like a chef with two key ingredients: the flavorful promise of crude oil and the nourishing bounty of agriculture. While the oil seemed like a jackpot, it also introduced a bitter element corruption.
Following the Nigerian Civil War, there was something call the oil boom. This was a period where the price of Petroleum skyrocketed and oil producing states were earning millions of dollars.
Nigeria got very wealthy in this period that we got the title “Giant of Africa “, The Gowon Administration played the Big Brother to other African states as Nigeria joined the fight for Liberation of Angola, South Africa, Rhodesia (now known as Zimbabwe).
And he also donated huge sums of money to countries like Gambia, Namibia, Congo and so on. But as the oil boom was a flavorful promise it was also a bitter element.
After the Civil War, Gowon Administration undertook huge infrastructural projects to rebuild farms, hospitals, Airport all the things that were damaged during the War. And also Military Barracks for the large army.
It was at this stage that the bitter element (corruption) crept into Nigeria. The govt initiated a census in order to split the oil revenue, 55% for all states and 45% for the oil producing states.
All the states then exaggerated their population in order to get more money, this angered Gowon and he refused to accept the census. Furthermore, Nigeria became dependent on oil for revenue and other sources of revenue died, import duties were brought really low and imported food became cheaper, this contributed to the down fall of agriculture in Nigeria, Gowon’s Generals and Governors started amassing wealth illegally.
Two of them were caught, one resigned and the other one was not punished by Gowon. This showed that there was more corruption in his Government.

EducationDo You Know There Is A Haunted Mine In Nigeria? by Overseer0(op): 9:33pm On May 25, 2024
It’s called Iva Mine Valley In Enugu
All you need to know about it.
This is a story of how 21 miners who were unfairly killed at Iva mine in Enugu and still hunt the place till today, The coal mines in Enugu have been branded haunted for over 60 years because of the cries of the massacred souls that haunt Iva Valley.
Nearly 70 years ago, the lives of 21 miners — fathers, husbands, sons, breadwinners — came to an abrupt end when they fell to a hail of bullets at the hands of the colonial police while protesting harsh working conditions.
This was one of the many motivations for the Zikist movement (Nnamdi Azikwe) for Independence.
In 1917, the Iva Valley mines were built to replace the Udi coal mines which had been closed. Subsequently, the working conditions became deplorable — cases of racism and physical abuse — under the management of British managers.
one case, Mister T. Yates, a British national, on September 2, 1945 slapped a worker, Mr Okwudili Ojiyi, who took courage and brought up an assault case and Mr T. Yates was prosecuted and penalized, Still many of the harsh conditions remained.
It all escalated on November 1, 1949 when the workers’ demands for the payment of rostering, the upgrading of the mine hewers to artisans and the payment of housing and travelling allowances were rejected by the management.
Hence, the workers began a strike which led the Bristish managers to sack over 50 miners, This led the management to remove all the explosives from the mines on November 18th, as they feared the strike was as a result of the growing agitations for Independence.
After removing that of Obwetti mines (sister mine) easily, the explosives at Iva Valley proved difficult, especially with the workers refusing to assist the management. The miners also feared that if they removed the explosives, nothing would stand in the way of the management’s shutting down the mine (this was discovered by The Fitzgerald Commission, which the colonialists were forced to set up to investigate the massacre).

EducationStory Of Madam Efunroye Tinubu by Overseer0(op): 11:12pm On May 18, 2024
The woman who sold her own people to Portuguese. The Tinubu Square Lagos was named after During the slave trade in Nigeria, she was one of the slave traders.
EFUNPOROYE Osuntinubu Olumosa, also known as Madam Efunroye Tinubu, she was an astute businesswoman, kingmaker and the first woman to kick against British rule in Nigeria and during the colonial era.
She was a major outstanding figure in Lagos and Abeokuta (Egba) politics. Born 1810 in Ojokodo, currently in Ogun State, Tinubu remarried to Oba Adele Ajosun in 1833 after her first husband passed on.
She moved with the exiled Oba to Badagry, which was the traditional place of refuge for Lagos monarchs. At Badagry, she leveraged Adele’s connections and built a formidable business, dealing in tobacco, salt and slaves.
Oba Adele was reinstated in 1835, but died two years after. Before his death, Tinubu had strengthened her trade with the expatriate community, the indigenous population of Lagos and Abeokuta, as well as other communities in Yoruba land.
She later remarried Yesufu Bada, alias Obadina, who was Oba Oluwole’s war captain. Tinubu had a great influence in the palace and contributed in making Akitoye, her brother-in-law, king after Oba Oluwole.
In 1851, when Oba Akitoye was fully in charge of the throne, he granted Tinubu favourable commercial concessions, which made her to still trade in slaves for guns with Brazilians and Portuguese traders. She also obtained a tract of land from him, which now makes up part of the current Tinubu Square and Kakawa Street.
Tinubu had so much influence over Akitoye that in 1853, two Lagos chiefs — Possu and Ajenia — rose in rebellion against him for giving Tinuba so much privilege. With the ban on slave trade in the country, Tinubu put more efforts into internal trade, dealing in palm oil, salt, pepper and tobacco.
By 1850, she was the leading middleman in the interior of Lagos, Tinubu played prominent roles in installing and removing kings. She, however, supported Dosunmu, the son of Akitoye to ascend the throne in 1853.
Under Dosunmu’s reign, Tinubu had a massive security force, composed of slaves and she sometimes executed orders given by the king. In 1855, she led a campaign against the Brazilian and Sierra Leonean immigrants in Lagos for using their wealth and power against Dosunmu, and for subverting the customs of Lagos.
The British Consul, Benjamin Campbell, felt threatened by Tinubu’s nationalistic acts and in 1856, instigated Dosunmu to expel Tinubu and her followers from Lagos to Abeokuta. In Abeokuta, Tinubu identified with the United Board Management Government and expanded her business activities to include a wide range of wares, such as arms and ammunition.

PoliticsThe Major Person That Will Benefit From The Nyesom Wike-sim Fubara Crisis by Overseer0(op): 8:45am On May 14, 2024
See why

Tinubu is fully aware of the crisis in Rivers state and wants it to continue.

Here are why I draw these conclusions:
Bola Tinubu has always been involved in Rivers politics since the days of Chibuike Amaechi. If you watch the trend, every Rivers governor from Dr. Peter Odili, Amaechi to Wike always turned out very influential nationwide. They all eventually ran or attempted to run for the office of the president of Nigeria.

When Amaechi defected from the PDP to the APC in 2014, and partly sponsored Buhari's election in 2015, his interest was to form a national alliance so he could eventually run for president in 2023. It had very little to do with his relationship with Goodluck Jonathan. The GEJ and his wife's issues were just a smoke screen to validate his ambition to be at the national spotlight. In 2018, I met with Amaechi in his office in Abuja. The meeting was arranged by one of his key loyalists who happens to be a respected friend of mine. I was to be involved in the digital campaign for the election of Amaechi's candidate in Rivers state and the re-election of Buhari in 2019. Amaechi never hid his intention to takeover from Buhari as Nigerian president in 2023 in that meeting.

Now, here are the reasons anyone working with Tinubu should be very careful...
All along, Tinubu knew Amaechi was a threat to his 2023 ambition. For Amaechi to become a formidable opposition to Tinubu in 2023, Amaechi must produce a sitting Rivers state governor. Hence Tinubu ensured Amaechi never produced a governor. He silently supported Wike to power in 2015 and supported him again for a second tenure in 2019. Tinubu was probably a part of why all the federal might that Amaechi had could not give him certain control over the election in Rivers state. On the other hand, in Lagos, before 2019, former governor Akinwunmi Ambode had shown signs he would not open up Lagos funds to sponsor Tinubu's ambition in 2023.

He had challenged certain demands from Tinubu already. So Tinubu ensured he was removed from office despite the fact that he was rated as one of the top performing governors in Nigeria at that time. Ambode was disgraced out of office and Tinubu replaced him with a worthy stooge, whose past he had in his hands, and that was how Sanwo-Olu came into the picture. With Amaechi not able to produce a sitting Rivers governor and Tinubu having a stooge he he had absolute control over in Lagos, Amaechi was already not a match for him, especially when it comes to having the funds to buy his way around the country in the 2023 elections. Hence, Amaechi lost out of the equation in 2019 when Wike won his second tenure. Imagine for a second if with the meager funds Amaechi had, he came second in the primaries in 2023, what he would have done to Tinubu's ambition had he had access to the kind of money Wike expended in the PDP presidential primaries added to his.

Let's fast forward to Wike and Atiku's beef.. All the while Wike was dancing around trying to hang things on Atiku, he already had a pact with Tinubu and the person assigned to ensure Wike did not make a U-turn on the Asiwaju agenda was governor Seyi Makinde.

Makinde's singular duty in that purported G5 alliance was to play along with Wike to ensure he supported Asiwaju at the end of the day. This was also why Makinde did have a free ride in his own state elections afterwards. Go and read Makinde's background. When you are done, you will know that ordinarily he is not the type of person that would roll with a Wike type of charcter. He had to do all the childish rigmaroles, which included wearing ashoebi and dancing drunk on live TV, with him to ensure that the Asiwaju agenda was implemented.

Now, to Wike and Sim matters...
I believe that Tinubu may be secretly fueling this Rivers crisis to his future advantage.

Wike's antecedents would make anyone working with him to be careful how powerful he gets. Hence, this crisis creates room for Tinubu to form an alliance with Fubara as an option in any case Wike, in usual defiant manner, gets dissatisfied with Tinubu and works against him in future. This is easily suspicious as Wike has refused to formally leave the PDP despite currently working for the APC government. Hence, Wike is probably perceived as a working time bomb that should be closely watched.

Hence, Tinubu's strategy would be to ensure Fubara remains at logger-heads with Wike while he strikes a deal with Fubara never to allow his impeachment, and by so doing keep Fubara secretly loyal to him all through. This way, also, Wike cannot have access to the Rivers state funds and his power would gradually be diminished with time. This leaves no room for anyone financially powerful enough to challenge Tinubu in the near future (2027). I came to this conclusion when I observed Fubara's body language before now and his sudden boldness to confront the House Of Assembly members loyal to Wike.

Unlike, when this issue first started where Fubara decried the efforts of the police to frustrate him, Fubara now pallies with police.

Police have allegedly taken over the Rivers state Assembly complex moments after a high court in Port Harcourt restrained Wike's loyalists from parading as lawmakers and Fubara ordered relocation of sittings to the Government House following the emergence of a factional speaker loyal to him. No commisoner of police posted to Rivers state would carry out Fubara's orders on this matter without first hearing from the IGP who would have also acted on the president's tone on this matter.

So when I see people, especially those loyal to Wike, trying to drag Tinubu into this matter, during their various press releases, as though he would side with them against Fubara, I am tempted to conclude that they probably do not understand that Asiwaju is the most dexterous politician in Nigeria, who often gets the best for his interest in every political crisis.
Again, these are just my opinions and I stand corrected. Also, this article is not for those who think linearly. It is intended only for those with the ability to foresee events based on antecedents and can comprehend possible outcomes.

So before you react, take a deep breath and use your mind critically.
Thank you!

Phone, collect the money and gave him tally for identification. The man left with his servant (Ahmed) who later on come back with the Tally to collect his boss phone which was given to him without delay. Later in the night, his boss came looking for the same phone which has been

They brought in the 1st suspect whom Chijioke denied being the one that collected the phone ; but as usual the police clamped him into the same detention facility with Chijioke. Chijioke kindreds and brother made frantic efforts on how to get the said Ahmed who collected his boss
Phone. As luck would have it, he was arrested through the help of some soldiers. Upon being handed over to the police, Chijioke identified him as the man whom he gave his boss phone to. His own boss upon arrival, accused him of having stolen from him before. To the suspects,
Particularly Chijioke and his people, this is a simple case that he must be released without delay. But the police as usual, clamped 3 of them into one tiny cell with other inmates. All of them were detained from that 25th June to 30th June when police threatened to arraign them
In court if they failed to pay for the cost of the missing phone pegged at #300, 000.00. They took 3 of them as if they were going to court on the 29th ; only for Ahmed, the one that allegedly collected the phone from Chijioke to offer police #150, 000.00 to gain his freedom.
Having brought them back to the station, Inspector John, the IPO & Prosecutor in this case told Chijioke people to look for the balance of #150, 000.00 to pay up the phone owner. We don't have any money to pay, that's why our brother has been in detention with you, the people
responded. To their greatest suprise, police released the other two suspects and brought Chijioke to the Iperu Magistrate Court for arraignment on the 30\06 /21; but such could not be since Chijioke is not in tune with the language of the Court. This handicap earned him a remand
Order at the Sagamu Correctional facility till yesterday where we formally appeared on the matter Pro bono for the defence but before proceeding ; we informed the court that the Prosecutor has refused to give us the proof of evidence, even the charge sheet, submitting that it's a
violation of section 36 (6) of CFRN, 1999 as Amended. The court cautioned them in a very light tone but the inspector went ahead to inform the court that they are withdrawing MIPE /50C/2021 COP VS CHIJIOKE NWACHUKWU due to the fact that the complaint has lost interest in the case
That the complaint is on his way to come and inform the court of his intention to withdraw , necessitating the matter being stood down. When the court has exhausted all there is in the cause list, the matter was called again around 2:30pm without any complaint in sight ; only
the cop to inform the court that he has given him the go ahead to withdraw the charge as laid. Thus, he applied for the withdrawal to the court. Charge strike off, Chijioke regained his liberty which has been restrained pending arraignment for the past 43 days both at the police
Station & prison. We as lawyers should do more by squeezing time out of our busy schedule, to help the less privileged who 've been trapped by the lawlessness which Nigerian Police represents. We made effort on getting the required interpreter which has forestalled the proceeding”

Here’s all you need to know about the Nollywood Legend “NKEM OWOH” aka Osuofia
The name Nkem Owoh may not be popular with a lot of Nigerians, but mention the name “Osuofia” and you will get an instant reaction from them, Owoh is an individual aptly categorised in the “old school” of Nollywood who has brought smiles, laughter and happiness to the faces of Nigerians with his dramatic acting skills and interpretation of roles.
Indeed, this man has gone on to receive critical acclaim both in and outside Nigeria for his works; so,
Who is Nkem Owoh that nearly got in trouble with the Buckingham Palace guards for his jester act?

EducationThe 2002 Miss World Beauty Pageant. by Overseer0(op): 9:35pm On May 08, 2024
The 2002 Miss World riots were a series of religiously motivated clashes that engulfed the northern Nigerian city of Kaduna from November 20 to 23, leaving approximately 250 people dead and many properties destroyed.
The Miss World beauty pageant was originally scheduled to be held in Nigeria’s capital, Abuja, but was moved to London due to violent clashes between Muslims and Christians in Nigeria.
The clashes were triggered by what some Muslims considered “blasphemous” on an article in Thisday newspaper linking the revered prophet Muhammad to the beauty pageant.
How It Happened:

Nigerian model and beauty queen Agbani Darego won the 2001 Miss World beauty pageant, leading to Nigeria being chosen to host the 2002 contest.
However, many Nigerian Muslims, particularly in the country’s northern regions, condemned the decision, saying it was intended to promote promiscuity and attack women’s modesty.
The event was originally scheduled to be held in November 2002, but was postponed to December 7 of the same year because it coincided with the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.
It should be noted that the Miss World organization has come under pressure and attack in Nigeria for entirely different reasons. Organizers opposed the death penalty for Amina Lawal, a young Nigerian woman accused of adultery by a sharia court in Zamfara.
This opposition did not sit well with the state’s Muslim groups, leading them to antagonize the pageant organizers.
The Profanity Article:

Ninety-Two (92) contestants from different countries arrived in Nigeria for the event. To commemorate this feat, Isioma Daniel, a columnist for THISDAY, a national newspaper based in southwest Lagos, wrote an article on November 16, 2002.

EducationHere’s The Story Fascinating Story Of A Gorilla Who Took Care Of A Boy by Overseer0(op): 9:30pm On May 06, 2024
Back in 1996, an unidentified 8-year-old boy slipped away from his mother, climbed over a barrier, and fell into the Gorilla Enclosure.

Due to the 20 ft fall, the boy broke his hand and suffered a deep laceration to his face. Seven gorillas inhabited the enclosure. Gorillas are known to be fiercely territorial animals.

They will fight to the death to defend their families. However, one of the gorillas, called Binti Jua, meaning “daughter of sunshine” went over to the boy and cradled him in her arms, all while her own young child was on her back.

She then went over to the edge of the enclosure and waited for the zookeepers to come and collect the child.

Binti handed the child over peacefully before returning to the rest of the gorillas. Binti received worldwide praise and received regular treats for the next few weeks.

The boy and the mother have never been identified, but the boy did stay in a hospital for 4 days.

Animal behavioral experts claim Binti used her maternal instincts to look after the child. This may have been influenced by the fact that she had her own baby Gorilla with her at the time.

EducationThe Story Of How Agege Bread Came About by Overseer0(op): 9:06am On May 05, 2024
We’ll start this story with how “Amos Shackleford” moved to Nigeria from Jamaica in 1913, specifically Ebute Metta in lagos to join the railway industry but quit in 1921 and embarked on a new venture: bread making Amos and his wife Catherine were one of the first people to set up a bakery in Nigeria specifically in Agege, Lagos.

Prior to this, bread was mostly imported from the West Indies. He introduced the dough brake, a kneading device which gives the agege bread texture that we all know as Agege bread today.

Who is Mum-zi, the youngest grandmother in the world?
In 1884, Mum-Zi gave birth to a baby girl when she was only eight years and four months old. Originally from Nigeria, on an island called Akwa Akpa (now known as the city of Calabar), Mum-Zi’s daughter followed in her mother’s footsteps and became a baby girl.
She became a mother at the age of eight years and eight months, making her mother the youngest grandmother in the world.
It’s not uncommon for young parents to be parents over the years, but what may be unusual is for young teenagers (as young as 17) to become grandparents. In recent years, most people in this age group hope to finish school or graduate from high school.
The thought of becoming a parent is rarely even considered, and therefore, having grandchildren is often inappropriate. But that wasn’t the case for Mum-zi and her daughter and other young girls in the 19th century.

Here’s the story of a Nigerian herbalist who was able to treat malaria in the 1900s.
John Augustus Abayomi Cole was born in 1848 in Abeokuta, Nigeria. His exposure to many African cultures led him to consider himself a proud West African.

He lived for some time in Liberia, where he developed a strong love and devotion to Pan-Africanism. Many of his works are hidden in deep academic records and require daily exposure to Africans.
About the African Herbalist, Farmer, Politician and Intelligent Doctor who later served as an affiliate of the National Association of Herbalists in the United Kingdom played an important role in the outbreak of malaria epidemics in the 19th century. When he was four years old, John’s parents moved back to Freetown, Sierra Leone, for unknown reasons.
He was educated in Freetown until graduating with a Bachelor of Medicine from Fourah Bay College, Freetown. Shortly after graduating, John taught for a time until moving to the United States at age 20.
In the United States, John was instrumental in helping freed slaves from West Africa return to Sierra Leone by sending petitions to the Wesleyan Methodist Church. In 1889, West Africans arrived successfully.
Soon after, John left the church due to several problems with Christianity and religion. He continued his medical education in the United States, becoming a member of the Society of Physicians and Pharmacists (FSA).

The elder statesman said, “England is an island. So when you get to Southampton, you have to take a boat, you and your car to Calais in France. I drove through Paris, then Madrid, Gibraltar.
Then, When you arrive in Gibraltar, you reach the Mediterranean Sea, where you can also catch a ferry to Algeria: “From there you are completely on the road, although in the desert there are no roads, but your compass and your map will guide you.” During the trip, the professor further revealed: “I became very passionate about this while studying for my doctorate in the United States.
I bought a Volkswagen for about $600 at the time. I used it to drive through the desert there. He added that he was very adventurous, which is why his autobiography was also titled The Adventurous Chemist.

Isaac Kamalu has resigned as River State Commissioner of Finance after he was redeployed to the Employment Generation and Economic Empowerment Ministry by Governor Simi Fubara.

Kamalu, who served as commissioner for Budget and Economics under former Nyesom Wike and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, disclosed this on Tuesday in a letter to Governor Fubura and the Secretary to the Government, Tammy Danagogo.

He accused Fubara of lying about the internally generated revenue of Rivers State.

“In view of the above, I find it difficult to accept the redeployment; I do not accept it. I reject it and convey my immediate resignation as Commissioner and Member of the River State Executive Council with effect from the date of this letter”, the letter reads.

Earlier, DAILY POST reported that Zacchaeus Adangor, Commissioner for Justice and Attorney-General of the State, had resigned, citing a similar issue.

The developments come months after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu brokered a peace pact between Fubara and Wike amid an untamed political faceoff between the duo.

Recall that in the build-up to the Fubara and Wike crisis, Kamalu had resigned as commissioner but was reinstated in line with the peace pact.

EducationThug Of The Year by Overseer0(op): 8:05am On Apr 24, 2024
This is the story of how an American magazine named Sani Abacha “Thug of the Year” in 1995 .

General Sani Abacha is perhaps Nigeria’s most enigmatic head of state. He ruled from 1993 until his death in 1998. General Abacha was born on September 20, 1943, in Kano State, northern Nigeria. He is from Kanuri, Borno State. After graduating from the Nigerian Military Training Center in Kaduna, he attended Mons Officer Cadet School in Aldershot, England, before being commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in 1963.
Some consider him Nigeria’s most successful coup plotter. He was involved in the July 1966 counter-coup in Nigeria from its conception when he was a second lieutenant in the 3rd Battalion in Kaduna. It is likely that he was also involved in the Lagos or Abeokuta phase of last January’s coup. Abacha fought for Nigeria in the Nigerian Civil War against rising Biafran separatists in the military.
He played an important role in the 1983 coup in Nigeria that brought General Muhammadu Buhari to power and in the August 1985 coup that removed him from power. He declared a coup to overthrow the government of Shehu Shagari.
In 1985, General Ibrahim Babangida was appointed President of Nigeria and Abacha was appointed Chief of Army Staff. In 1990, he was appointed Minister of Defense. After Babangida resigned, an interim government was established led by civilian President Ernest Shonekan.
In 1993, Sani Abacha became the first Nigerian soldier to achieve the official rank of general without skipping any ranks. In the same year, he moved towards his ultimate goal. Shonikan resigned and handed power to Sani Abacha in what was widely viewed as another bloodless coup. In September 1994, he issued a decree placing the government above the jurisdiction of the courts, effectively giving him absolute power.
