Meet Mrs Funmilayo Ransome Kuti. We were told in school, she was the First Woman to drive a Car in Africa.

She was way more than that…
Absolutely, Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti was a multifaceted personality, contributing significantly to various aspects of Nigerian society. Her roles as a teacher, women’s rights activist, political campaigner, and traditional aristocrat showcase her diverse and impactful contributions.
She was the only woman among the man that fought against colonial rule and she was the only woman in the NCNC’s delegation to London in 1947 to negotiate for independence.
She is the mother of Fela Anikulapo Kuti and Beco Ransome Kuti, and the grandmother of Femi Kuti and Seun Kuti, her legacy extends through generations. Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti’s life remains a testament to her commitment to social change and justice.
