Justice B.O. Quadri of the Federal High Court, Abuja, has sentenced a 55-year-old female pilgrim, Binuyo Basirat Iyabo, to 10 years imprisonment with hard labour. She was caught last September while smuggling 76 pellets of cocaine to Medina, Saudi Arabia.

In his judgment, Quadri said the sentence would serve as a deterrent to others. Besides, he said the hard labour was added to the sentence because the convict failed to reveal the identity of her sponsors.

Binuyo tested positive to narcotic ingestion at the Abuja airport, while on pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia last September. She was immediately placed under observation, where she excreted 76 pellets of cocaine. .

NDLEA commander at the Abuja airport, Hamisu Lawan, said the convict, married with three children and a trader at Dosumu market in Lagos, in her statement, agreed to smuggle the drugs for a fee. .

“I wanted to expand my cosmetic business but I have no money. My sponsor offered to foot my expenses to Saudi on pilgrimage. I was excited until I was asked to take drugs along. I wanted to decline but considering the offer of N1m, I accepted,” she stated.

The Lagos State Government on Monday said it has concluded plans to commence the crushing and recycling of over 4,000 impounded commercial motorcycles, popularly called Okada, in line with the provisions of the State Traffic Law 2012. .

The State Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, said the recent clampdown on Okada across the state was a fall out of the government’s resolve to address the security concerns posed by their operations, saying that criminals are in the habit of using okada to perpetrate crime and get away. .

According to Mr. Owoseni, the decision to crush and recycle the impounded motorcycles was in accordance with the provision of the law. Mr. Owoseni said aside impounding the motorcycles and tricycles, the enforcement would also clampdown on the operators and residents who patronise them, adding that mobile courts would be instituted to try arrested offenders.

Owoseni said due to the constant challenges of enforcing the law, the state government was already considering an outright ban on okada operations in some areas of the state starting with the Lekki and Victoria Island axis. .

He frowned at the flagrant way Okada and tricycle operators flout the traffic law especially by not obeying traffic light, saying that in most cases it leads to avoidable accident and death of innocent citizens.

According to Linda Ikeji, LIB has been digging and found the alleged owner to be Prince Adeshina Adebiyi who owns Unique Motors who has explained himself saying,
'this is to inform the general public that Unique Motors, a reputable car dealer in Lagos has been falsely associated with a rather distasteful claim going around all over the internet, and also published by some online media platform that Unique Motors purportedly owns some 10G wagon SUV cars.

To clear the air, this video shows a car lot belonging to Unique Motors where it showcases it's products to the clients. In addition , Unique Motors help its clients with various maintenance, upgrade and reselling of these cars when needed. With this video making rounds, we are concerned about the adverse effect this will have on our clients scattered all over the globe knowing the huge damage it will have on our business.

We hereby refute the claim by this supposed whistle blower that the video is false and the video and images must have been taken from a potential client who came to our car lot for inspection'. His lawyers have also written to some blogs to take down the posts.

Policemen attached to the Inspector- General of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Idris’ Special Intelligence Response Team (IRT), have arrested suspected Boko Haram members, who abducted a 10-year-old boy in Maiduguri, Borno State and later stabbed him to death, reports NewTelegraph.

The victim, Baa Goni Maina, was abducted on January 14, by 18-year-old Adam Bakura and his brother, Modu Bakura. He was killed three days later after his father couldn’t cough up the N10m ransom the brothers demanded. .

Police said that the boy was tricked away from his street, down to a river bank. After he was killed, the gang carried his body to a place called Gwange graveyard in Maiduguri town and dumped it there. It was said that investigation revealed that the brothers were Boko Haram members
