The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, is set to call off its strike on Monday, 17th October 2022, as the Federal Government has agreed to pay the outstanding 8 Months’ salaries.

ASUU made this known in a post on its official Twitter handle @ASUU_NG on Tuesday, October 11, 2022.

The tweet reads: “BREAKING NEWS Universities to Reopen 17th October 2022 as Federal Govt Agrees To Pay The Outstanding 8 Months’ Salaries. (1/2) #ASUUstrike #AsuuStrikeUpdate.


“Revitalisation and salary areas have been cleared. Although the issue of UTAS is not finalized, for now, ASUU members have agreed to resume October 17th.”

THEWILL had earlier reported that the ASUU President, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, in a meeting with the leadership of the House of Representatives on Monday in Abuja, hinted that the union will soon call off its eight-month-old strike.

He said that from what the union had seen at the meeting “there is light at the end of the tunnel.


“This time around it is hoped that there would not be any persons or group to create issues that would make the union run into any hitch”, he said.

He further hoped that the intervention by the leadership of the House would be the final for the sake of the students, adding that ASUU’s struggle was for the educational and university system in the country.

“We hope that in the next few days, we will put an end to this strike. We want to have a system where the renumeration is enough to attract lecturers all over the world to our universities”, Osodeke said.

President Buhari has lifted the employment embargo on federal government MDAS

On the 10th September, 2022, President Buhari has lifted the long enacted employment embargo on all federal government organizations.

The Head of service of the federation, Folashade Mejabi Yemi made this known to news in the State House.


According to her ,Mr President lifted the embargo to enable the teeming youths of Nigeria get employed which is a way of tackling insecurity in the country. She assured that all federal government parastatals especially education has been granted approval for mass recruitment.

In his remarks, the Minister of Labour, Dr Christ Ngige told news that President Buhari is keen in employing Nigerian youths in various federal government agencies, as a result, employment embargo has been lifted.
This is necessary to reduce the high level of economic hardship amongst the teeming Nigerian youths.

JAMB has lowered its cut off marks for Universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education.

The cut off mark for Universities is now 140.
The minimum mark for entry into polytechnics is now 120.
And the minimum mark to enter colleges of education is now 100.

This reduction was announced by the registrar of JAMB, prof Ishaq Oloyede on 21 July, 2022.

I think this development will lower the standard of education because 140/400 is a poor score and that means students are becoming dull instead of progressing in their studies.

And that majority of students are not measuring up or scoring high marks in JAMB.

The appeal court yesterday reserved judgement on the appeal by Oborevwori on the charges brought on him by Edevwie another PDP guber candidate in Delta State.

The appeal court stated as reported by the Guardian newspaper that another date for the ruling will be communicated to both parties.

When a Judgement is reserved it means that it has been reserved for another day or postponed to another day but the right word is reserved.

Although I have heard of missile interception technology it still comes down to luck and more importantly God's plan for the future. The missile could be missed or there may be malfunction in the launch or a change of mind.

And every country wants to have nuclear warheads. I think it may end in a third world war and eventually annihilation.

The second world war was drawing on and it seems the Japanese people would not make it come to an end. Peace was really absent from the world and there was tension everywhere.

The Japanese came to bomb Pearl harbor a city in the US in December 7, 1941. President Truman and the Americans were not happy about this.

So he ordered the production of a very destructive bomb that was called the atomic bomb and was designed and produced by an association of scientists and military engineers.

This project was called the Manhattan Project and prominent scientists like Enrico Fermi and Albert Einstein were the lead scientists in the commission.

Both men were actually the inventors of the atomic bomb. They termed it a very destructive weapon that could destroy a very large area such as a city. And it was true because the bomb had a devastating effect on Japan.

On August 6th, 1945 the American airforce dropped the atomic bomb (they called little boy) on the city of Hiroshima from a fighter aircraft at a very high altitude.

It was really destructive and almost half or a third of the city was gone and a hundred thousand Japanese killed.

The Americans were waiting for the Japanese government to surrender but were delaying their surrender may be because they were stubborn.

President Truman was not happy that they did not surrender and had to give another order that many atomic bombs should be dropped on strategic Japan cities.

On August 9th, 1945 the second atomic bomb was dropped on Nagasaki and a third of the city and about 50,000 Japanese people were killed.

The American president and people did not have to wait for a day before the Japanese emperor announced an unconditional surrender of Japan.

His country and people were devasted, confused, and in great fear. And he had to surrender because if he didn't he would have led to the total destruction of the Japanese people.

Were the Americans right when they almost destroyed the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki? I would say they are right because the Japanese airforce first attacked and bombed Pearl harbor.

The counter attack of the US using atomic bombs was a very good military, political, and social decision. It ended a lingering 6 years world war in just 3 or 4 days. What a good thing the Americans did.

The Americans are happy that they ended the war they did not want to get involved in but are not happy that they had to destroy parts of Japan and a lot of Japanese people.

Though president Truman said it was a hard decision but he had to take it and he said he would take it again to create a situation of real peace in the world. He is right.
