PoliticsGov. Ortom Disclosed What Fulani Herdsmen Want In Benue by owoicho13(op): 1:20pm On Mar 21, 2018
Rising from a meeting with the state and zonal leadership of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, MACBAN, Governor Samuel Ortom told newsmen that the umbrella body of Fulani herdsmen were asking for more time “ to enable them adjust and conform with the (anti-open grazing) law” passed by the Benue state government.

Speaking at the Benue Peoples House in Makurdi on Tuesday, he maintained that there is no alternative to the ranching law enacted by the Benue state government to regulate livestock business.

The governor, however, assured that the law would be implemented with a human face, stressing that the ranching law was the collective decision of Benue people hence he lacks the powers even as Governor to reverse or make adjustments to it.

Ortom had before now wondered why some persons were opposed to the Anti-Open Grazing Law 2017 of Benue state, recalling that when Zamfara state enacted Sharia Law no one resisted it.

He disclosed that while the law was being implemented, “discussions between MACBAN and Benue state government would continue with a view to fashioning out ways of ensuring peace between farmers and herdsmen in the state”.

The governor stated that the main objective of the meeting was the arrest and confiscation of some cattle in breach of the ranching law, saying the state government had agreed to release the cattle to their owners after the payment of fines as stipulated by the law.

In his remarks, North Central Zonal Chairman of MACBAN, Alhaji Danladi Chiroma stated that his members were ready to obey the Open Grazing Prohibition and Ranches Establishment Law and to cooperate with the Benue government to expose criminal elements responsible for the current crisis in the state.

PoliticsReno Omokri Slams Vice President, Osinbajo For Attacking Jonathan by owoicho13(op): 10:50am On Mar 20, 2018
Reno Omokri, has asked General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, Enoch Adeboye, to direct Vice President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo to stop attacking former President Jonathan.

The former presidential aide said this in reaction to Osinbajo’s remarks at the 7th Presidential Quarterly Business Forum for private sector stakeholders at the State House conference centre. Osinbajo had claimed that the Jonathan administration shared N150 billion two weeks to the 2015 poll.

Omorki, in a statement on Tuesday, said the Vice President “has again surrendered his lips to satan to be used to spread slander and lies”.

He wrote: “Nigerians may recall that lying is the most consistent achievement of Professor Osinbajo’s almost three years as Vice President.

“Only on October 20, 2017, Vice President Osinbajo was in Anambra state where he lied that the present administration had paid $2 billion for the second Niger Bridge.

“I personally exposed that lie and forced the Presidency to issue a ‘clarification’. The money released was 2 billion Naira and it came from the Sovereign Wealth Fund set up by the Jonathan administration which the APC resisted and challenged in court.

“Even after Jonathan left office, it is still monies that he left behind that the Buhari administration is using.

“It will also be recalled that in February 2016, the Vice President again lied when he claimed that both the Jonathan and Yar’adua governments did not build a single road. This fact was easily disproved when even members of this administration, including Osinbajo’s boss, President Buhari, began commissioning projects, including roads built by the Jonathan administration.

“Some of the roads either built or rebuilt by the Jonathan administration include the Benin-Ore portions of the Benin-Lagos road, the Vom-Manchok road, the Kano-Zaria Road bridge (named after late Emir Ado Bayero) and many more.

“On this most recent allegation by Vice President Osinbajo, let me state categorically that former President Jonathan DID NOT share 150 billion two weeks to the 2015 election. If Professor Osinbajo has proof that former President Jonathan did so, then we challenge him to publish his proof. He is a professor of law and ought to know that he who alleges must prove.

“Again, it is a lie from the pit of hell that the Jonathan administration spent only N14 billion on agriculture and N153 billion on infrastructure in three years as alleged by the fallacious Osinbajo.

“The Jonathan administration budgeted and spent over $10 billion on infrastructure in the 5 years between May 6, 2010 and May 29, 2015.

“The single most expensive and valuable project built in Nigeria in the last 20 years is the $1.8 billion Abuja-Kaduna 187 kilometres super-fast railway that enables Nigerians work in Abuja and live in Kaduna.

“This project was built and completed by the Jonathan administration. Is the Vice President aware of this?

“Also, former President Jonathan revived Railways in five of the six geo-political zones and restored direct rail services from Lagos to Kano, Port Harcourt to Maiduguri and Makurdi to Gombe.

“When Rotimi Amaechi took over as minister of transport in 2015, he said (this is a direct quote)

“In fact, I think we have a problem; most people don’t believe that the railway transport is functioning in Nigeria. I didn’t even know, until I started this tour, I never knew that the railway was functioning, it was even from his (MD’s) speech that I learnt that there are some coaches or services that go to Kano or Port Harcourt or elsewhere.”

“My question to the Vice President is who built these rail infrastructures that Amaechi was referring to?

“Who built the only Federal University in President Buhari’s home state of Katsina including 13 other Federal Universities and 165 almajiri schools? It was ex-President Jonathan.

“In contrast, the Buhari administration, which in less than three years has borrowed more money than the PDP borrowed in 16 years cannot point to even one major project they have started and completed.

“Both President Buhari and Vice President Osinbajo keep accusing the Jonathan administration of being corrupt and claim that they run an anti-corruption government.

The troops attached to the 707 Special Forces Brigade, Makurdi, while on patrol on Saturday in the area, nabbed six herdsmen in Kwata Sule, while 12 others were arrested in Mbayer, Yandev and Kaambee areas for “destructive activities.”

The herdsmen were reportedly handed over to the police for prosecution.

Benjamin said that modalities were being put in place to ensure all the results are transparent and accurate.

He also assured that all technical difficulties encountered to access the website were being addressed.

NAN reports that number of candidates, who sat for the examinations earlier, were yet to receive their results.

PoliticsBenue PDP Tasks Governorship Aspirants On Livestock Anti-grazing by owoicho13(op): 11:47am On Mar 17, 2018
Mindful of the unending killing of farmers in Benue by suspected herdsmen, the state Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), John Ngbede, has admonished governorship aspirants on its platform to be committed to measures aimed at regulating open grazing of livestock in the state.

Ngbede said the PDP would weigh aspirants’ track records and assess their campaign messages on the strength of their commitment to measures that would ensure the protection of lives and properties of Benue people from the menace of killer herdsmen in the state.

A statement by his media aide, Ejembi Ogwuche, quoted Ngbede saying: “Today’s climate of insecurity in the state, where Benue people are uncontrollably murdered in cold blood, because of grazing of livestock on their farmlands by herdsmen is unacceptable to the PDP and thus, all its governorship aspirants must show unfettered and visible commitment to measures that will stop this dastardly acts.”

He added that the party took the stance to reflect its qualified position on the sanctity of lives of Benue indigenes, who have come under severe attacks from the activities of herdsmen that brazenly graze on their farmlands.

The statement added: “As the party of the people of Benue, those aspiring to govern the state under the PDP has moral obligations to prove their capacity to protect lives and properties of the people and the party will make dynamic leaders to be in charge in the state.”Ngbede assured that the PDP would continue to address basic issues of protection of lives and properties, which he noted, are cardinal priorities of the party. He commiserated with the families of those that lost their lives in the killings by herdsmen in Benue communities and called for cessation of hostilities.

CrimeCourt Sentenced 5 Herdsmen To 27 Month In Prison In Benue State by owoicho13(op): 4:29pm On Mar 14, 2018
A Makurdi Magistrate’s Court yesterday convicted five herdsmen on charges of criminal conspiracy and open grazing.

Those convicted were Yusufu Buhari, 22; Hamidu Mama, 11; Saleh Muhammadu, 22; Ali Ibrahim, 12, and Idi Bature, 11.

The Magistrate, Mr. Emmanuel Azembe, found the convicts guilty after they confessed committing the offence.

Azembe had ordered that the ingredients of the offence under Section 97 of the Penal Code and Section 19(2) of the Open Grazing Prohibition and Ranches Establishment Law 2017, be read and explained to each of the accused persons before their conviction.
The accused persons pleaded guilty and were consequently convicted and sentenced by the court.

Earlier, the Police Prosecutor, Sgt. Ato Godwin, told the court that the accused persons were arrested by a Joint Task Force led by ASC Terna Raphael of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Makurdi, on March 7.

He said the taskforce received a phone call from the District Head of Kwenev, Guma Local Government Area of the state that herdsmen were openly grazing their livestock on peoples’ cassava farms.

“The accused persons were then arrested by the Joint Task Force,” he said.
Godwin said the offence contravened Section 157 of the Criminal Penal Code.

Counsel to the convicts, Mr. Tijani Ahmed, pleaded with the court to consider the ages of the accused persons and to tamper justice with mercy, saying; “They don’t know the implication of their action.”

The magistrate sentenced each of the accused to three months in prison, considering their ages and being first time offenders coupled with the plea of their counsel.

He, however, gave them an option to each pay N3, 000 as fine for criminal conspiracy.

“For the offence of Open Grazing Prohibition and Ranches Establishment Law 2017, they are sentenced to 24 months in federal medium prison or each to pay a fine of N30, 000.
“The sentences are to run concurrently,” Azembe ruled.

Former Big Brother Naija 2018 housemate, Ifu Ennada, has described popular rapper, CDQ, as an ‘ashole’ for calling her a ‘one-night’ stand lady.

The ex-housemate, who was evicted on Sunday alongside her partner, Leo, of the Lifu pair, said CDQ lied because he never at any point saw her private parts, let alone having sex with her.

While in the house, Ifu had called out the popular rapper, accusing him of dumping her after sacrificing so much for his music career.

She claimed the singer forgot about her after attaining stardom.

In his response, the singer denied ever dumping her as claimed, stressing that they only had s*x once.

But speaking with Pulse, the former housemate said, “He called me a one night stand. CDQ is an ashole, like…he didn’t even see my vagina. I don’t even understand how I’m a one night stand.

“I honestly don’t understand because when I said what I said on Big Brother, it wasn’t from a malicious view.

“It was because the guys in the house were talking about how girls always depend on men and all that.

“I was trying to a point that even when I was a teenager I was in school but this is what I was doing.

“It is sad that he was the one I did it to.

Christianity EtcHerdsmen Destroyed 500 Churches In Benue - CAN by owoicho13(op): 12:29pm On Mar 14, 2018
Benue State Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Rev. Akpen Leva, yesterday, revealed that herdsmen have destroyed over 500 churches in parts of the state.

Rev. Leva, who spoke in Makurdi, said most worshippers at the affected churches were also displaced as a result of the crisis, which started in 2011.

The cleric noted that aside churches, missionary schools located within the affected churches, pastoral centres and homes, clinics and rehabilitation homes were also lost to the crisis.

He said: “The destruction cuts across Catholic, Pentecostal, NKST, Anglican and several other churches located in areas affected by the crisis.

“The level of destruction is actually worrisome and that is the more reason why there is every need for the Federal Government to consider availing these churches some form of compensation, so that we can rebuild the effected structures and also effect repairs on others.”

Rev. Leva, called on the Federal Government to direct the military and sister-security agencies to stop herdsmen from further incursions into Benue communities.

His words: “Majority of those affected in the crisis are Christians, which means that the Church also carries the burden of contributing its widow’s mite to the upkeep of the close to 170,000 persons displaced in the state as a result of the crisis.

“The situation in Benue State at the moment is pathetic; the state government has been overwhelmed because of the magnitude of the devastation and the number of the displaced.

“There is certainly no way a state government can cope with the kind of number of IDPs the government is catering for at the moment.”

PoliticsI Can't Stand Slaughter Of 76 People Killed By Herdsmen In Benue - Gov. Umahi by owoicho13(op): 11:33am On Mar 14, 2018
Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi state yesterday barred Fulani herdsmen from entering Enyanwu Igwe village, Igbeagu community in Izzi local government area of the state where the last incident of Herdsmen/farmers clash took place pending the conclusion of investigation into the incident by the state government.

The Governor stated this during an enlarged security meeting at the government House, Abakaliki Both the Governor and the National Chairman of Myetti Allah, Alhaji Bello Bodejo warned that the incessant killings by herdsmen might spark-off national war if not properly addressed even as they called for caution in handling the herdsmen menace in the state.

The last incident left four persons dead with two still in critical conditions. Leaders of cattle herders in south east and south south states, stakeholders of the troubled community as well as all the security chiefs in the state were in attendance during the enlarged security meeting.

Addressing the gathering, Umahi who described the killings in Enyanwu Igwe village as unprovoked killings, ordered herdsmen around the area to leave the place until he calm the embittered villagers down to avoid reprisal attack. ”It is unprovoked killings, life is so sacred.

You can’t kill people as if they are fowls. Izzi people are warriors, I physically held them not to go for retaliation. The herdsmen there in Izzi have to leave the place for now until I can calm everybody down. The way we are going, it can provoke national war and it will not help anybody. If there is reprisal attack, I will hold all the leaders squarely responsible, I will charge all of you for any reprisal attack. ”The lives of every Ebonyian is very dear to me.

God forbid, I can’t withstand where 76 people were killed like in Benue, I can’t withstand it. Some people may be fighting to die but we fight to live, lets use wisdom and handle the matter. “This is a National problem; we don’t want our people to continue killed. We must use wisdom to handle this problem. It is very easy to say I want all the herdsmen to leave Ebonyi but there are lots of implication”, he said.

He regretted that agreement reached between the state and herdsmen in the area for peaceful co-existence have been destroyed. “We banned under aged herders, we banned night grazing in the state. We have no grazing routes in Ebonyi which means that nobody has the right to carry cattle by route to Ebonyi state and we agreed on that.

We also agreed with the Herdsmen that the first offender must be prosecuted. We also said that no farmer should go to farm with gun and no herdsmen should rear cattle with gun or matchete, it is stick. We must abide by these rules”. While addressing Umahi, National Chairman of Myetti Allah, Bello Bodejo corroborated with the Governor that incident killings in the country can cause chaos in the country.

He said the state has been very accommodative to the herdsmen, warning that it should not be abused. “Ebonyi state is very peaceful and it is accommodating to our members. It has been so accommodating to our members even more than some Northern states of the federation and we condemn these killings in this state .

There are minors and migrants who are causing these lots of problems. There are also criminals moving as cattle herders who are causing these havocs. The Chairman of Myetti Allah of various states in the south east and south are all here and we are not happy with what happened, we condemn these killings in totality.

“Nigeria is confronted with so many security challenges and one of them is the unfortunate farmer/herder conflict. If this conflict is not resolved, it has the potential of throwing this country into unnecessary chaos”, he said. The striking Non-Teaching Staff of the Nigerian Universities has threatened to disrupt the 2018 Joint Admission and Matriculation Board’s (JAMB) Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), which will hold from March 9.

Mr Samson Ugwoke, Chairman, Joint Action Committee (JAC), Non-Teaching Staff of the Nigerian Universities, made the threat at a meeting of the National JAC with the Principal Branch Officers on Wednesday in Abuja.

Sen. Chris Ngige, Minister of Labour and Employment, held a conciliatory meeting with the Non-Teaching Staff of Nigerian Universities on Tuesday, urging the unions to call off the strike.

The Non-Teaching Staff of Nigerian Universities are made of the Non Academic Staff Union of Nigerian Universities (NASU), Senior Staff Academic of Nigerian Universities(SSANU) National Association of Academic Technologists, (NAAT).

Ugwoke said that the threat has become imperative as the Federal Government has continued to renege on the agreement it entered with the unions.

According to him, since our strike continues, JAC has decided that no activities will take place in the universities.

“This is because if we are on strike and you expect our members to come and supervise JAMB or come to operate their machines like the computers, that means we are breaking the strike already.

“JAC has also decided that to redraw their assistance they would not go to work. So all I know is that as long as we are on strike, JAC has decide that there will be no exam.

“Our members will not participate and they will make sure that the exam does not hold in the universities that is the position of JAC, ‘’ he said.

Ugwoke also called on the Federal Government to do the needful.
