It would be better for import waivers to negatively impact local rice mills rather than allowing greedy farmers to exploit consumers. I cannot understand why Nigerians often display such callousness towards one another. If the government were to close the border, the price of rice would skyrocket, and farmers would be content to see consumers struggle. Conversely, if the government sought to relieve citizens of the high cost of living, farmers would express dissatisfaction. In this context, it seems more reasonable for farmers alone to face challenges rather than the entire country enduring the consequences of exorbitant rice prices.

" Hunger: Nigerians can no longer afford food items", Food Inflation: Foods prices are more than doubled, inflation at 40%". When food prices coming down, traders lament. When fuel prices coming down, transporters and oil marketers lament. Who's the real enemies if not ourselves.

Where were you in August when dangote said he'd sell direct to the public and cheaper, before NNPCL rushed in to stop him and said they'd be the one to dictate the selling price and take over the downstream aspect? Before they did, they first rubbished the quality of his products in order to frustrate him, after which he invited government officials to his lab to see results of the one imported by the nnpc and his own. Google is your friend.

Amid the government's continued frustration, dangote had to voice out that a top government official owned a blending facility in Malta and the pressure mellowed after he had said this cos they knew he'd expose them all. Thats what they are doing. Importers with hidden agenda are now taking advantage of the price Dangote is selling. In a country where we have been crying that we don't produce anything. And some people here don't mind, all what they want is cheap fuel, whether good or bad.

We can say we want cheaper fuel ignoring Dangote's refinery, ignoring the value chain employement and engagement it brings, the quality of fuel refined, the effect of fx supply as the refinery is expected to stop importations which will reduce the pressure on fx.

Nigerian crude is premium crude, a little more expensive. I believe the importers make more money by buying cheaper products from abroad.
Export premium, more expensive crude and import lesser quality products. It's business but there's a cost to it.
This same principle contributed to the exit of pharmaceutical companies out of Nigeria.

You are right sir, this is another great angle to it. We drill one of the most expensive class of crude. And this is Dangote's feedstock.

Dangote products cant be cheaper, as long as his crude supply is naija oil, they know he is box to the corner cos his refinery was designed to refine best quality of crude not blend like those in malta

2ndly Dangote refinery is designed to primarily serve Nigeria market, those insisting on importation have plans to bring in blended quality and they know Nigerians dont value quality .. cheap price is the watchword
