Arsenal travelled to Bournemouth as they returned to Premier League duties on Sunday afternoon. Here is the full recap, all the highlights and analysis of the 2-1 loss. Arsenal are a mess. Arsene Wenger is the manager of that mess. No long-term security. No investment. No on-pitch tactics. No strategy. No plan. No thinking, No logic. No composure. No intelligence. No ability to manage games. No ability to defend properly. They represent a Sunday League club. That’s what Arsenal remind me of. And Sunday afternoon’s 2-1 loss to Bournemouth was the perfect showing The first half was a bitty but busy affair. Snappy challenges; enthused running. That was the name of the game. Unfortunately, though, there was a painful lack of quality from either side. Possession swapped hands frequently, with neither side able to protect the ball in midfield, and with a litter of misplaced passes, pressured errors and a general inability to string together neat and tidy play, there was no pattern or fluency to the game. Arsenal certainly had the better of the half. 58.3% possession at half-time was emblematic of that. But Bournemouth were not without their own chances. Adam Smith angled a shot wide of the near post early on, before the Cherries enjoyed a prosperous spell to close out the 45 minutes, with Ryan Fraser firing over the crossbar and seeing a shout for a penalty on an Alex Iwobi handball harshly turned down by Kevin Friend. There were also some moments of nervousness seeping into the Arsenal back three. All of Calum Chambers, Shkodran Mustafi and Rob Holding sliced clearances into the stands, stressed by the vibrant pressing of the Bournemouth attackers that Eddie Howe was insistent on implementing. But despite the growing periods of panic, Cech had to make just the one save all half. At the other end, Arsenal created several decent chances. Ainsley Maitland-Niles, twisting and turning his way into a yard of space on the angle of the penalty area clipped the crossbar after some neat work from Alexandre Lacazette; Alex Iwobi saw a few long-range efforts well saved by Asmir Begovic, especially considering the deflection they took along the way; Shkodran Mustafi made his presence known from corners with a dart across the near post, attempting to flick a header towards the goal; and Danny Welbeck squandered the best opportunity, just failing, on the stretch, to steer Lacazette’s through pass past the onrushing Asmir Begovic. But for the most part, this was a game that lacked quality and creativity in possession. Neither side could engineer the openings necessary; both sides looked devoid of ideas and ingenuity. The only player who did prove his ability was Jack Wilshere. He was wonderful throughout the first half, exuding a calmness that elevated his performance above everyone around him. But there is only so much one midfielder can do. Arsenal needed a spark. The game needed a spark. Thankfully, it got one. Wilshere received a pass in the middle of the park. He was under instantaneous pressure. But, as he had all game, he controlled the ball, turned, and played a simple pass away. It was not a seemingly significant or special piece of play, but it would result in the opening goal. In the same move, Alex Iwobi would slide a lovely pass inside Charlie Daniels, stretching the pace of Hector Bellerin, whom Daniels had had great struggles with throughout. Bellerin scampered onto the ball, surveyed his options with Alexandre Lacazette and Danny Welbeck in support, before going it alone: a low, across-the-goal effort that deflected off the left hand of Asmir Begovic before bounding into the goal. For however scrappy the finish was, the move was beautiful; for however frustrated Begovic was as he turned to see the ball droop over the goal line, Arsenal were acutely aware of its importance. The spark, from an Arsenal perspective, did not last long. Bournemouth, slowly, grew into the game, showing signs that they could haul their way back into the match. Ryan Fraser fired a shot straight at Petr Cech, before Jordan Ibe jinked his way past Rob Holding but was unable to get the necessary power behind his effort, which rolled into the welcome arms of the Arsenal goalkeeper. They were the warning signs. The real danger was quick to follow. Bournemouth’s first goal came through the speed, accuracy and ruthlessness of Ryan Fraser and Calum Wilson. The Arsenal defence all followed the ball — yes, that is schoolboy defending. Fraser got in behind down the right flank. He then curled a lovely cross into the box, bent behind Calum Chambers and Hector Bellerin, and teasing Petr Cech to come and collect. Cech accepted the tease; Wilson accepted the goal, prodding home after his big toe helped him get to the ball first. The second didn’t take much longer. Just after Wenger shifted to a back-four, Arsenal’s defensive structure disintegrated, not that it was ever that integrated. Rob Holding tried to play offside; Shkodran Mustafi failed to mark; Granit Xhaka went wandering, utterly unaware of the danger. Those three factors combined for a very sloppy goal. After Calum Wilson’s chest and touch fell to Jordan Ibe, there was only one way this was ending: a thumped finish straight down the throat of Petr Cech — it’s difficult to blame Cech given the pace and the proximity of the shot. The goal was soft. It was emblematic of the Gunners’ vulnerabilities. It tells the whole story. It damns the club, the manager, the players. It is downright unacceptable. Arsenal pushed for the equaliser. Wenger threw on Aaron Ramsey and Theo Walcott. Alexandre Lacazette endeavoured. Jack Wilshere probed. Hector Bellerin ran. But nothing happened. Nothing. This was a terrible performance, terrible result, terrible afternoon, and a terrible representation of all the things that are wrong with this football club. |
It is incontestable that IGP Ibrahim Idris, the
16th indigenous Inspector General of the
Nigeria Police Force is unarguably the most
controversial and most on the out there
Inspector General of Police ever to occupy this
demanding and enviable seat.
Since his appointment by President
Muhammadu Buhari, he has shuffled from one
avoidable controversy to another, mostly due
to his impulsive nature and gross
incompetence.
Information available to this roving reporter is
that IGP Ibrahim Idris’s Homefront is not
insulated from this unending baggage of
controversy. It is authoritatively gathered that
DSP Astha, a subordinate of his, now his wife,
who Senator Misau alleged he had an
unethical romance with, before eventually
getting married to her under clumsy
circumstances is holding the IGP to ransom.
It was revealed that after the controversial
marriage, he caused the resignation of DSP
Astha, now Mrs Astha Ibrahim Idris from the
Force and pressurized her to abort her
pregnancy, the product of their amorous
relationship. A decision which she resisted
vehemently but later succumbed to. It was
gathered that Astha bowed to the pressure by
IGP Idris, after he argued that bringing forth
such an undesirable child to the world will lay
credence to Senator Misau’s allegation that
she was already four months pregnant before
the nuptial knot was tied.
However, DSP Astha’s reluctant acceptance of
this ignoble act is not without pre-conditions.
The conditions given to IGP Idris are that since
he has caused her resignation and abortion,
he is to secure her future and ensure that she
is financially grounded, while he holds sway as
the IGP in an event of any eventuality. He is to
abandon his first wife and his official
residence and relocate to her house in
Maitama for her emotional stability. He is
also to maintain limited relationship with his
children who expectedly, were opposed to the
marriage.
In this vein, postings of Squadron
Commanders and contracts in the Police are
now influenced by DSP Astha. In order to be
posted in areas considered lucrative, she
collects between One Million Naira to Three
Million Naira, from conventional Police
Officers, who are desirous of conversion and
becoming Mobile Commanders. A case in
point is the recent removal and subsequent
reversal of some Mobile Commanders in Lagos
and some other viable Squadrons. The
reversals, it was gathered, were effected after
millions of naira exchanged hands between
Mrs. Astha Idris and the affected Squadron
Commanders, with the exception of one of the
Commanders, an Indigene of Adamawa State
of Fulani extraction who was unable to meet
the Ten Million Naira mark bribe demand. He
then sought the intervention of Mrs. Zahra
Buhari Indimi, who contacted the IGP and his
removal as Squadron Commander from one of
the Squadron Commands in Lagos was
reversed.
Another interesting abuse of office and rubber
stamping of corruption by IGP Ibrahim Idris as
gathered by this reporter is the so called
reorganization of the Police X Squad. The X
Squad which is an arm of the Nigeria Police
Force was created to fight the menace of
corruption, within the Force and the society in
general. It was an integral part of the Force
Criminal Intelligence and investigation
Department, under the supervision of a Deputy
Inspector General of Police, but now excised
from the FCIID and placed under the direct
supervision of IGP Ibrahim Idris. It is gathered
that the X Squad is indirectly under the direct
control of Mrs. Astha Ibrahim Idris, who
influenced the appointment of her erstwhile
boyfriend, DCP Ameachi, a former Aide de
Camp (ADC) to late Mrs. Stella Obasanjo, as
its Commander.
Sources from the Force Headquarters revealed
that DSP Astha was snatched from the said
DCP Ameachi by DIG Habilla (DIG Ops) before
she was subsequently snatched by IGP Ibrahim
Idris. The X Squad is structured into Zonal
Commands at the instance of Astha and
provided with brand new operational vehicles,
while most of the Divisional headquarters of
the Nigeria Police that bear the burden of
Policing are left without operational vehicles
or at most have rickety and unserviceable
vehicles. The brief of the X Squad Commander
in this regard is simple; ensure the flow of
returns from the Squad to DSP Astha Ibrahim
Idris for her ‘financial security’, as agreed with
the IGP.
Further investigation conducted made startling
revelation that, to secure a contract or any
other favor from the Police, the person(s) will
have to pass through DSP Astha Idris, who is
effectively the defacto IGP. On every contract
secured through her influence, she makes
between five to twenty percent of the total
contract sum which is usually paid upfront in
cash.
Sources close to the first Police family have it
that there is no love lost now between him
and his first wife, Mrs. Asmau Ndayako Idris,
who he suspects is plotting to poison him,
since he took DSP Astha as his third wife,
after the Liberian-New York based woman,
whom he impregnated, while on a UN mission
in Liberia, when he was a CSP. The reasons for
this domestic instability is IGP Idris’s
relocation from his official residence to her
(Astha’s residence) somewhere in Maitama, at
her prompting.
Princess Asmau Ndayako, who had put in so
much, including her inheritance, in sustaining
the family and footing the bills of their former
rented apartment in Garki before his new found
economic footing as an IGP, is today an
unhappy woman who bore her pains and
humiliation in dignified silence but is full of
regrets, haven been treated shabbily by a man
whom she had prayed fervently for his
success, using her royal connection through
the late Emir of Borgu, Alhaji Dantoro, said to
be very close to President Muhammadu Buhari
and the current Etsu Nupe to ensure that he
was the candidate of choice to occupy the
coveted seat of the Inspector-General Police
(IGP), only to realize that her efforts, turned
into nightmares threatening the foundation of
their marriage and her happiness after his
appointment as IGP.
She is not alone in this undignified treatment
meted by the IGP and DSP Astha, so also are
his children. The situation is unbelievably
bizarre that DSP Astha has surreptitiously
barred the children’s mobile phone numbers
from the IGP’s line, thereby preventing them
from reaching and talking to their father who
has become an absentee father since his
marriage to DSP Astha.
Princess Asmau Ndayako Idris Esq. reminisces
over her ordeal in the hands of IGP Ibrahim
Idris and DSP Astha and left everything in the
hands of Almighty Allah to take charge.
With all these embarrassments coming to the
Office of the Inspector General of Police
because of Ibrahim Idris’s actions, the
question many are asking is why is President
Buhari still keeping a man whose actions have
brought public odium to a respected
institution and as well have ridiculed his
avowed fight against corruption?
Is IGP Idris above the Nigerian law? Time will
tell

1 Central Bank of Iraq 18th March 2003- Baghdad, Iraq: $1 billion Some robberies require careful planning. Others use brute force. But the largest in history was as simple was it was effective. Saddam Hussein treated Iraq as his own personal fiefdom, so it’s no surprise that he would feel that the Central Bank of Iraq was his personal bank account. The day before Coalition forces began bombing Iraq, he sent his son Qusay to make a withdrawal on his behalf with a handwritten note. Qusay oversaw the withdrawal of boxes stuffed with $100 bills in a five-hour operation which netted the dictator about $1 billion in US dollars. It didn’t get him very far, as he was caught sometime later hiding in a hole in the ground whilst his son was killed by US forces. Approximately $650 million was later found by US troops hidden in the walls of one of his palace’s, though the remaining $350 million has never been recovered and is considered lost

2 City Bonds Robbery 2nd May 1990- London, UK: £292 million John Goddard was a 58 year old messenger working for broker Sheppards, who was mugged whilst carrying a briefcase on a quiet London side street. However, the contents of that briefcase contained £292 million in bearer bonds. Goddard was delivering Bank of England Treasury bills from banks and building societies. Due to the nature of bearer bonds, whoever is carrying them is deemed the owner. They are as good as cash. He was held at knifepoint, whilst his assailant made off with 301 Treasury bills, most valued at £1 million each. Keith Cheeseman was arrested in connection to the crime and received a 6 and a half year sentence. Police believe that the mugging was carried out by Patrick Thomas, but he was found dead of a gunshot wound to the head before he could be charged. All but 2 of the bonds were recovered after police and the FBI infiltrated the gang responsible. It’s amazing that the second largest robbery in history was carried out by a low level thief brandishing only a knife on an insignificant back street

3 Boston Museum 18th March 1990- Boston, USA: $300 million Number 3 on our list is also considered the biggest art heist in history. Two men dressed as police officers convinced 2 inexperienced security guards at the Gardner Museum that they were responding to a disturbance. Contrary to museum policy, the 2 guards let the “officers” into the premises, where they quickly learned that they had been duped after being handcuffed by the men in the basement. Amazingly, the 2 men managed to do this despite having no visible weapons whatsoever. The men spent the next 81 minutes calmly selecting 12 pieces of art with a combined value of over $300 million, and this was 20 years ago. Among the paintings stolen were 3 Rembrandt’s and a Vermeer. The two then took the surveillance tapes and departed, never to be heard from again, though in 1994 an offer was made to return the paintings for $2.6 million and immunity from prosecution, but the writer was never heard from again. The men appear to possibly be amateurs, as they made no effort to avoid damaging the paintings and left even more valuable works behind. The case has never been solved and there is a $5 million reward for any information pertaining to the return of the artworks. Also, authorities have announced that they will not prosecute anyone who has the paintings and offers to return them

4 Baghdad Bank Robbery 12th July 2007- Baghdad, Iraq: $282 million Employees of the Dar Es Salaam bank showed up to work one morning to find that the doors were unlocked, the vault open, and all the money was gone. It is believed that 3 guards at the bank made off with a staggering $282 million in this whopping haul. Yes, more than a quarter of a billion dollars! That’s more money than the entire economies of some small countries. It is unclear why the bank had such a large amount of cash on hand, but it was all in US currency. It is suspected that the guards had the assistance of militias, to avoid detection at security checkpoints around Baghdad, as having a lazy $282 million in the boot of your car might raise suspicions. No one has been brought to justice for this brazen crime and none of the money has been recovered. The robbery received surprisingly little media coverage.
