Chapter Eleven

He placed his hand on her head and felt her pulse. He sighed deeply. Finally, her temperature was returning back to normal. He sat down on a stool beside her bedside.

George opened the door quietly, walked in and stood beside him.

"How's she doing?"

"She's better now. Her temperature is gradually returning to normal. She was lucky to have arrived here on time. A bite from a dralion is no joke. She was lucky to have met you when she did."

Or you were lucky I wasn't dead when before she met me and that she didn't also kill me!

"Never fathomed that this was how I was going to meet your much talked about daughter."

"Yeah, but it could have been worse. See, even in her weak state, she still could outsmart you."

"Hmmrhhh!" He grunted.

"She's always possessed that amazing intuition. She reminds me much of myself!"

"If she was so 'intuitive', how did she get bit by a dralion?"

"My boy, you have no idea what a dralion could do. Pray you don't meet one. Its one of the deadliest beast in the world, wide over. But its not found everywhere, only in few high ranking Magic Lord's possessions. Which leaves me wondering how she got bit by one?"

There was a brief silence during which George tried to create a dralion with the bits of information he had gotten from Mr. Logan. He envisaged a great monster with crimson red eyes, sharp claws and great spreading wings. He could sense smoky flame brewing in its mouth.

He was cut short when Mr. Logan spoke.

"It's time to administer the final spell. I would need your assistance. Oh God, I pray she survives it...she's so weak!"

He motioned for him to holds her hands together firmly. Her hands felt so cold to his touch as he held them.
Mr. Logan applied some sort of balm on her nostrils, eyes and forehead.

"Trans vein los nervis tus luis endo gramatins. Lobatius porta mendis. Chan rovers longtoris.

Eves evanesca, puck loisse tus chivos mendagorin. Grundis les emmaneva chalis tus apremendi

Victoris des devon. Achila..."

He was chanting now as he said the last part of the spell. The room suddenly lit up and the window blends that had been spread so no light came in suddenly went up revealing darkness outside. It was as though things had suddenly turned upside down. Her body was beginning to jerk now and a great fear gripped him. This had got to be some really dark magic.

"Lungs afente. Spleen afente. Tus gonadans enflammare!"

As he said the last word, she jerked up suddenly with a scream so loud it could be heard miles away. Her eyes were pure black and the hairs on her head stood like some witch he had heard in fairy tales. He was lucky to have had breakfast already as it had proven to take a great deal of power to have held her back.

As suddenly as this had happened, it didn't take time to quiet down. Slowly her hairs smoothed down again and she fell down back to the bed with her eyes close, her body still and without breath.

Okay, I school in Benin and since Monday I couldn't help noticing some ladies dressed in some awkward way(like bra worn on top of a T-shirt) with a can which had some coins in it which they kept jingling as they begged passersby for some change. I and my guy got talking yesterday and he was asking about my opinion about the 'rag day' thing. I had to look from both sides of it. That's how the ladies felt doing it and how people saw them. He felt it was shameful and irritating and should be put to a stop.

What do you guys think about it?

He stirred and rose up. He felt a burden on his shoulder as though he was being pushed down. His shoulder hurt so bad. He wondered what had gotten him so hurt. As he tried standing up, he met with resistance. He couldn't stand as something was acting like a blockade. He tried with more effort but the more he pressed on, the more he found out that he couldn't get out. The truth began to dawn on him as he recounted what happened before he fell asleep.

"Damn these scums! They used the shielding spell."

He tried to get his hands out but they felt numb.

"And they even did one on my hand. What's all these and where are they even?"

He looked around but they were no where around.

He managed to turn his palm towards the open.

"Repairo!"

Strength came back to his hand and he was back to using his phallenges.

"Resuminuos!"

The blockade receded quickly and he got up looking around. He saw no one and his confusion grew.

Weren't they going to finish him off or perhaps killing him hadn't been their target.

He moved with great difficulty as it seemed a heavy weight was attached to his leg. His limbs felt nimble. Still he moved on.

He remembered that the ground had been barricaded to prevent him from moving out. He hoped with all his life that it had somehow come undone as he had not the slightest idea of a spell to undo it. He walked on and on until he came to the stream. He smiled knowing fully well that the spell had been lifted.

Bending down to the water, he cupped his hand and took a gulp. His throat itched a little. He hadn't realized how thirsty he really had been. He felt so relieved. Little wonder there was that saying that water was life.

He fell back to the ground facing the skies as he tried to regain what little was left of his strength. The wind was on course now and it soothed him. He shut his eyes and allowed his mind to drift. Mr. Logan would have so much to explain as to having left him amidst demons to die in what would have been a very painful death.

I thought he was supposed to prepare me for what was ahead but that was way off it...My guardian would do a better job than this. I think its high time I...

He felt something cold hit him. He ignored it. The grasses around were still wet and as the wind blew, one could have touched him with its tassels.

Another touch. This time probing.

This surely was no grass. He opened his eyes slowly to meet the intense gaze of a feminine beauty.

"Start talking. You've got only five minutes till I kill you."

He was taken aback. Here was a lady more beautiful than any he'd ever seen and she had that intense gaze with blue eyes that seemed to be probing into him. And she was...she was going to kill him. It was there in her expression. He had to talk..she meant business.

"I'm George...George emm...I can't really say but the old man said my dad's name is Prince. So, I guess I'm George Prince."

"Liar! You're lying. You can't be son to King Prince. You had better said the truth now or I'd make your death more painful."

She threw away the stick that she had been wielding and conjured a big hand with punching gloves on. It hung just above his head.

"Speak now or be beaten to pulp!"

"I'm saying the truth..I..."

The hand came swiftly down but he was quicker ducking low and rolling over. It came again and he dodged the second time.

"Let's see how long you last!"

She conjured a ball he realized to be the 'jew's ball', a very gigantic ball and it came rolling towards him. Wherever he went it followed. He wasn't too fast as he was still nursing some pains and so he stopped running and began thinking while he stood. The ball approached him and had no intent to stop. He looked steadily at it and then the spell hit him.

He had been concentrating on the ball and had forgotten about the lady. He had heard the 'flumensia' but his brain had been too slow to process the meaning. He fell with a thud.

"See, you're not that smart. A little decoy and you're prey. I'm gonna finish you now."

She looked down at him and for once he noticed her features. She was so close with small red lips and thick eye lines. She was really a beauty. He was suddenly caught off his fancy as he noticed that she hadn't attack him. Her visions seemed to be getting blurred as she struggled to maintain balance. She took two steps back and fell back in an unmistaken faint.

LiteratureRe: Call Of The Wind: THE GENESIS [Magic] by pabon(op): 7:37pm On May 30, 2015
He got himself up and was gonna explain himself out of this situation.

"I'm so sorry...but this must be a misunderstanding...I'm supposed to be..."

A spell came flying his direction and he was saved by the slippery nature of the grass as he slipped and fell allowing the spell to fly pass.

"Damn...this ugly diva means business....she does want to kill me."

"You fool...you're a coward. You killed my brother...I'll condemn you to the same fate."

"No, I didn't...."

Boom!

It came spiraling again but he was much aware this time and ducked in time to avoid the spell. This got the monster like lady angry and she dashed towards George with a 'you are gonna die' kind of determination.

"Reflesonta!"

He recognized this spell the moment it was voiced out by this monster. It was the seven deadly joint locking curse. It incapacitates its victim and makes them bleed slowly to death. He knew he had to avoid it or he would have to kiss good bye to the earth, if indeed this was earth, and relocate to the land beyond.

"Autohumus leviosa!"

He was immediately spiraled up and he did this just in time to escape the spell bolt which missed him narrowly by just a few inches. He knew he had to do something and really fast.

Still standing in mid-air, he recalled the banishing curse but he didn't think it should be used on humans.

Stupid! This wasn't a human...it was a dead soul only just re-awakened.

That was his mind. He was reminded that these creatures might not be real as they were just meant to be test for him. Surely Mr. Logan wouldn't want him dead. With in that mind, he directed his palm at her.

"Tantrix nakade embodien"

She had been trying to lung at him but suddenly she froze mid way through her spell. It was quite surprising to her. It started from her legs paralyzing her as it went and crept up with amazing speed up her body. By the time it got to her face, her whole body had lost their freedom. It froze her face and he eyes were the only organs she could move as she kept blinking them. It was difficult telling what emotion was going through her; anger, hate or surprise. Soon, her eyes lost their motion too and with that she burst open into tiny shards of flames.

The next two plate light projections shifted at once and two guys probably in their early twenties emerged looking very much identical with the same black eyes, pointed nose, and small black lips which were cracked perhaps from disuse. They smelt of myrrh.

How the gods I'm I going to defeat these...Oh...Mr. Logan must be crazy

He was caught out of his thought as one of them shot a spell at him.

"Flumensia!"

He ducked in time to allow the spell fly pass him but he wasn't fast enough as the other dude casted his immediately.

"Ribbona!"

It hit him in his stomach and he was forced into the shaped of a ball and with force went crashing backwards. He hit the invisible barrier and fell to his face. He spat out blood from his mouth and stood up slowly to face them.

"Leviosa!"

He was channeled up and suspended in mid air.

"See, you're too lazy to fight us. I don't why the others couldn't defeat a brat like you."

"Dismantus!"

He was flung down suddenly and because he wasn't expecting it, the impact was so much that he fainted immediately...

He followed Mr. Logan as they headed for a place only Mr. Logan knew. He called it the field of gallantry. He wondered if it was the place where there had once been a battle. He had tried asking what it was all about but Mr. Logan had told him he wanted it to be a surprise.

They got to a clearing in the woods and stopped. The place had nice view to the stream nearby and the canopies of the tall trees seemed to block off the rays of sunlight although they were sun flecks which concentrated at the middle of the woods.

"This is the place. The ground of Gallantry. Its where you'll be practicing for the main time. Remember, all you see is not all there is. You must not leave any enemy standing. That's the rule. Only then, will you be allowed out."

"Nacoosa!"

No sooner had Mr. Logan voiced the spell than a trail of some whitish substance- George suspected it to be chalk- began encircling the whole place. It stopped when it met the starting point. He was encircled in it.

He handed him a piece of paper which he took hastily. He didn't know what to feel; terrified or excitement. One thing he knew for sure, this wasn't going to be a fun fair. Mr. Logan had in the last few days been emphasizing on him learning as many spells as possible and he had really tried his best. He now knew dozen of spells which he knew could come in handy whenever the need presented itself. Only he didn't know it was going to be so soon.

"That's the spell that activates the warriors...farewell"

"Wait...which warrio..."

Alas, Mr Logan was already out of sight. His heart began pounding as he didn't know what to expect. This was going to be one heck of a day. He got down to a sitting position and began to recount the spells he had memorized. He could remember almost twenty but he wondered if they would be enough. He had read though that the spells would come flowing whenever he needed them.

With this he held out the piece of paper and read out the spell.

"Solemnus apparitus. Las enblemina Tus Santae Reckonlodius avantii

Gallantae livinia vius lemunus endanconia

Tanae Tanae Ensantus."

At first, it looked as though nothing had happened, that the spell had failed. He was already cooking up a story to that effect when suddenly, out of the ground, bursting its way through was the unmistaken form of a creature.

Its features were scary. A lined forehead and animal-black eyes that spill out its content, It had scars along its cheek. George swallowed hard.

"How foolish of you to have awaken me at this time. I only hope you came with your casket otherwise, your corpse will rot on this field and no one will discover your remains."

He saw the creature as an animal rather than a human. For which human had such hands shaped like claws and teeth so dark they make you want to throw up or the growling that was a definite feature of animals?

It produced a short stick that had a ball engraved in the place where the stick branched into two at the tip. It was emerald in color. It seemed to be radiating some glow.

"Serpensis!"

It shot something at him. On a closer look, he realized that it was a snake.

"My wordddd!" He exclaimed. He turned to go running but he was met with an invisible wall that prevented him from getting out.

"There's no escaping this you weakling."

Now the snake was very close to him. His adrenaline was adding up gradually and as it made to lung at him, he spat out.

"Enflammare!"

Fire came from his palm and consumed the snake.

"Well done but that was only the tip of the ice berg."

"Camedion"

He was stunned, not by the spell but by the fact that this spell was used on him. It was a spell that went for the heart of the attacked.

Does it really want me dead? He remembered Mr. Logan's words about thins not being a s they appear.

"Bomerango!"

His own magic rays went straight towards the creature. It was a counter-spell. Both spells met midway and the fight for dominance began. He had to focus of of his energy on to the spell but it wasn't working. The rays were coming closer to him and he didn't know how to prevent this. He strained harder but still his spell rays was increasingly being overpowered. He shut his eyes and focused gathering energy from every part of his body; head to toe and he concentrated towards his palm.

"Nostras!"

His spell rays suddenly picked momentum and spiraled towards the creature and before he could stop it, he was struck. It fell down and breathed its last.

"Ewwww!" He sighed falling to the ground catching his breath. He bowed his head low and closed his eyes.

"Get up and fight you coward."

He opened his eyes suddenly to see a lady with monstrous features. She was standing 3 o'clock from where the previous 'monster-thing' had stood. He saw beneath her feet, a plate-like projection. There was another one opposite her and another opposite where the monster-guy had been standing. Understanding washed over him. This was a quadrangle;four enemies. He was going to fight three more of these devils.

"Oh god!" He exclaimed.

The wind had suddenly gotten thicker and for once, she regretted not putting on her trousers. She walked hurriedly along the path. Normally, she shouldn't be afraid but she had this bad feeling that something wasn't right. And if there was one thing she trusted, it was her instinct.

She brushed her legs against a plant that had sharp bristles and it left a wound on her leg and soon blood began to gush out.

"Not this..."

She bit her lips to suck out the pain but it lingered still. She bent down to see that it was worse than she had expected. It was an open wound. She was losing blood and she tore a part of her blouse to douse the wound.

There was every reason why she should turn back at this point but she had a strong resolve to continue at all cost till she got to her destination. When she was sure that the wound wasn't going to bleed any further, she got up to continue.

"Flumensia!"

She was flung back suddenly against a tree and as her back hit the tree, she let out a loud wail. It had touched the spot where there had been the fresh scar from an attack by a dralion; an animal with the body of a lion but with wings of a dragon. She wondered how much more she could face.

"Did you think I'd let you leave without a message to that pitiable, miserable old man"

"Dathan. I've told you I don't want to fight with you. Just let me be. I've exercised self control long enough but I don't think I will be able to hold on any longer."

"Fight! You coward. Fight. Don't hold back. You claim to wield the fiery rage but yet no one has seen it for once. You're nothing but a coward."

"Sometimes cowardliness could be just the virtue that saves the day."

"You know things could be better if you'd just hand it over. I could help protect it."

"No. I don't trust you, never have, never will."

"Then you leave me no choice.

"Offocare aliquis!"

Her throat suddenly got tighter and it was as though someone invisible was trying to strangle her. She struggled to get free but she was no match. Her blood had ceased to flow to her neck region and her face was getting redder. She was getting weaker and would snap any moment.

"Tie aliquis funiculi!"

She had just managed to voice it out. Twigs, rope like suddenly came from the trees nearly and crawled up to the young guy and tied him up before he could respond. His concentration broke as a result and she felt her throat relieve. She took a very deep breath and spat out. It turned out to be blood.

"Damn....you almost killed me Dathan. Is that what you want."

"There's no harm in trial. You just discovered one way not to get killed. See, there's always a lesson to learn."

He flashed a smile, one he always had on when he was up to some mischief. He tried to wretch his hand free but it was a worthless effort.

"There's no escaping this...not till I'm gone and please don't try chasing after me. I may not be this merciful next time."

With this she turned to go but then stopped in her tracks.

"tie tenácius!'

The rope got tighter around him.

"Just in case," she said and walked away almost limping.

Chapter Ten

He took his stance facing Mr. Logan who was dressed in a faded blue robe. The neck of the robe was V-shaped. It had straps instead of buttons. He had a stern look on his face and George could tell that this was no child's play.

"At the count of three...you'd try to get me up away from the ground and into the air."

This didn't really didn't pull at his hair.

"Sapiena leviosa!"

Mr. Logan was propelled by an unseen force into the air and when he had gone up a good height, he began to float.

"That's good...good for a start."

He can down at his will and immediately proceeded to getting the next test started.

"Okay....this is going to be a little different. I want you to hit me with a spell that would push me back and get me off balance."

"That'll be easy." He positioned himself and with an air of certainty pushed his palm forward.

"Ad ventilabis aliquis retrorsum"

A force field, bluish in color came from his palm but met with a hard resistance when it got to about a meter of Mr. Logan's body. He tried all his best thinking that his effort could help him out but it didn't work out well.

Slowly, the field was forced back his way and he found himself straining to protect himself but he was no match for it, it came right back and he found himself thrown off his feet and as he landed, he hit his bottom against the hard soil.

"Ooouch! Damn. My bottom hurts"

"I see you haven't quite gone into the protectives..."

"That's true sir. I only just read the introduction."

"You will have to read it up really fast. There's no time to waste. Time is not a luxury we can boast of having. The exodus may come sooner than we expected."

"What's that...the exodus?"

He scratched his head lightly...

"Forget about it. I shouldn't have said that.."

"Why?"

"Sometimes, its better you don't know what's coming. Just keep your focus on your training and beating time..."

"Fulmensia!"

George shot at Mr. Logan very suddenly. He was already grinning widely knowing well that he'd caught him off guard but to his greatest surprise and disappointment, it melted to the floor when it came to within an inch of Mr. Logan.

"How do you did that?", he asked still stunned. He hadn't the slightest idea how someone could have such sharp reflexes.

"Nice of you to use the element of surprise. It would help you later in future if properly cultured. And to your question, I used what I called intuition."

He paused and when he saw that George wasn't making any effort to say something, he continued.

"Over time, I've learned to develop my intuitive ability. Its when you learn to do things on instinct and that's why your ears, eyes and feelings need to be heightened at all times."

"Hmmm....there sure is more to learn."

****

Back indoor, he sat on his bed thinking. He was tired from the day's work but he couldn't sleep, he didn't like the way he hadn't been able to block none of the series of spells that Mr. Logan had shot at him. One had even burnt his clothes and had given him a bad scar although he had been made to recover immediately with the 'repairo' spell.

Moments later, he was joined by Alexius, his guardian who seemed bent on ensuring that he had no rest of mind.

"Do you know that of the earliest guardians, I'm the most reserved?"

"Please you could do better at telling lies. You make a mockery of the art."

"You can say all you want but it still remains the truth though."

He walked up and crossed to the other side of the bed and began admiring a painting on the wall.

"This painting reminds me so much of her. She seems to radiate gentility and impeccable perfection in all she does. I wouldn't hesitate a second if given the choice to be her guardian...To be sincere, I'd grab it with both hands. It would be a sweet riddance..."

George looked at him with anger. He knew Alexius had said that to get on his nerves.

"What was that supposed to mean?"

"Oh...don't get jealous...I was only kidding. She's got her flaws too. For one, she's got your thick headedness and she's quite dogged as well. You'd only beat her in stupidity and naivity."

At this George sprang up towards Alexius but Alexius was swift enough to move away before the flames with the face of a lion could get at him.
He kept trying but he was no match for Alexius. He gave up when fatigue began to set in.

"Who's she by the way?"

"Who?"
This he did knowing fully well the person George was referring about.

"The lady who did the painting?"

"Why'd you want to know? Anyway, she's Cordelia, Mr. Logan's daughter."

"Wow...you knew her?"

"Very well."

"Please tell me about her"

At this point, Alexius realized that he had some sought of bragging privilege and so he took it.

"I'm not telling you."

"Please...."

"Okay, I'd agree if you'd let me train you and as such do my job."

George gave it a thought. He actually didn't need to think at all as the answer was an emphatic YES but he didn't want to sound too desperate. Receiving training from his guardian would be way better than trying to train oneself through a book.

Scratching the back of his head at last, he replied.

"Okay, I'll"

"Good. And you'll play by the rules I'll give."

"Hell no! I'm your master remember? You're gonna serve me."

"Fair enough. What would you like to know about Cordelia?"

"Everything", he replied.

This may be a quest you don't want to answer but how do you create your spells?
I think most of them up. Some I twist using other languages and some are real spells *winks**

Do have a nice morning

"Still you shouldn't have left the way you did...and to keep me outdated...that was evil of you. I should kill you!"

It was clear he was still in rage. He was still trying hard to get used to the ghostly form of the guardian. It was the form of a young man, no, young adult, looked 20,21 maybe. He had the clearly defined features of an handsome work of creation. He had his jaw outline carved out with precision shaped to look like the base of an egg only wider. He also had a perfect set of white teeth. His eyes shone like lasers whenever he stared. He had this tom-boyish frame. Even as he angered, he still couldn't help admiring him. He was glad to have him as a guardian though he wouldn't be caught dead saying it. He didn't want a guardian with a pumped up ego.

"That would be a consideration if I were human...I'm immortal dude."

"So I'm now dude and no longer master?" It was a quizzy look and his high shoulders were suddenly brought down with the renewed notification of his purpose; to serve the destiny carrier which happened to be George. Still, he felt he shouldn't be reminded of it so often as George had been doing in the last three hours.

"Not really...I felt that since I'm part-human now---That---well maybe---we could come down to just friends level though I'd still be serving you just the same way as before."

George loved the way he had unsettled him. He knew now that he had the upper hand in this battle of rights. The stuttering of his guardian had just proved it.

"No, I think it should remain the same."

"But---"

"Its a command."

He was frowning now and three wrinkle lines formed on his forehead making him look like all the more attractive.

"Okay...fine. Have it your way then."

George was brimming with an air of excitement to have won the contest. He grinned wildly as he resumed pouring water on the daisies that Mr. Logan had brought back from the forest. They had been brought in fresh by Mr. Logan but were beginning to wither. He had therefore been asked to help water them. He wondered why there was a sudden desire to beautify the place. He had felt Mr. Logan had no place for such 'irrelevant' things. As he poured water on the bare soil in the vase, he began to wonder what the next spell he was going to learn would be. He had not the slightest idea what was coming next.

"Ad ventilabis aliquis retrorsum"

He was flung suddenly against the wall and the water sprayer leaped out of his hand into the air. He sat up suddenly and with anger faced the now smiling guardian.

"What was that for...have you forgotten who I am, you----scumb--!"

"Alexius...I prefer that...its the latin word for guardian"

"You'll pay for this I promise you...."

He sprang up suddenly and with his palm out stretched shouted the jinx.

"Fulmensia!"

A bluish thunderbolt shot out of his palm and headed straight for the guardian. He just flashed an half pound smile and waved it off.

He whispered something and did a motion with his hand driving it to the left the motion shaped like an arc. The thunderbolt deviated and when ahead, hitting a frame causing the glass to shatter to the floor.

"You've still got quite a lot to learn. But... I'll be patient."

"I don't need you anymore!" He shouted this time meeting the gaze of the guardian something he hadn't been able to do since he transformed.

"Really...I don't think so."

"I've got my book of spells. You're useless to me."

The guardian shook his head with an air of absolute surrender.

"You'll know better soon. For now...let's just get you ready for Mr. Logan's test today."
